Enough so enough, I’m not saying this because of what’s happened To Caroline flack
Bit two contestants have taken their lives after being on this show where they are pitted against each other
Last night was awful how they all had to say who was the most vain, lazy fake

Come
On we’ve got rid of Jeremy Kyle now it’s time to bin love island

HeresMe · 18/02/2020 18:13

I don't watch love island at all, and I don't think it ought to be cancelled, but I think the fans need to look at there selves and what they get out of it I'm not sure it's entertainment this and lots of other reality TV. It's rubbish TV but if people watch it it eil keep getting produced.

Don't see how ITV are to blame for people's poor life choices.. You don't know anything about depression do you?

Bymeanstogo · 18/02/2020 18:20

I don’t think it should be cancelled but I do think a show like LI attracts a certain type of person, either vain or insecure/troubled. Hence why they’ve had suicides.

I do think the show has the potential to knock one’s confidence therefore they should access whether they are capable of taking part

GiveHerHellFromUs · 18/02/2020 18:22

I don't think you're helping the issue that you think exists if you're contributing to their viewing figures.

Do you know what matters to big corporations? Money. Not people.

I don't think the show should be scrapped.

There were claims that the two contestants couldn't cope with the fame, which is why they killed themselves. We don't know if that's true or not, but Love Island made changes to better support their contestants.

Caroline Flack already had that fame. But she also wasn't well and had a lot going on, that we know about. So I'm sure there's much more that we don't know about. But that existed before Love Island did.

Thebishopofbanterbury · 18/02/2020 18:24

Yes I agree get rid of it! It's not good for our society.

chuck7 · 18/02/2020 18:24

Are you implying LI directly impacts on suicide rates? There would be a million places I'd start before coming down on LI tbh. It's just a way to shift responsibility.

HotDogGuy · 18/02/2020 18:29

I think jumping to the conclusion that love island should be cancelled is too easy and does very little to address the real problems. In fact it could stop people looking a real solutions.
I’m not particularly a fan of reality tv but there was suicides before them and there will be after

AfterSchoolWorry · 18/02/2020 21:15

I never watched it.

But three people are dead now.

It's a TV show, surely people's lives are more important than a TV show?

Starlight456 · 18/02/2020 21:19

I don’t think it’s a great show however I think we are walking a very fine line deciding what can and can’t be shown because we don’t agree.

I don’t believe Jeremy Kyle should of been cancelled due to the suicide but do think it had its day.

I much preferred BB

PinkiOcelot · 18/02/2020 21:31

I don’t think it should be scrapped for Caroline’s death or the death of the 2 contestants. I think it should be scrapped because it’s absolute drivel. I can’t believe people actually sit and watch it. Brain dead!

Lardlizard · 18/02/2020 21:34

Is big brother still in tv these days or did that get scrapped ages ago ?

BubblyBarbara · 18/02/2020 21:44

I miss Jeremy Kyle, he really used to help people even if it was at the expense of some others. I now watch vigilante and pedo busting live-streams on Facebook for my dose of drama and they’re completely unregulated Grin

Scrumptiousbears · 18/02/2020 21:50

No. None of those deaths had anything to do with love island. It's natural for people to want someone to blame. However its never one thing, it's a combination of things that come to a head.

With regards to Caroline, this circle of blaming Love Island, Police, CPS, press etc is just finger pointing.

Livelovebehappy · 18/02/2020 21:53

Love Island was not responsible for Caroline’s death. She just happened to be a presenter of the show alongside the fact that she has had mental health issues for a long time. In fact, it’s said that her mental health issues started immediately after winning Strictly - does that mean Strictly should be turfed off our screens too? Maybe her management company should have tried to get her help, as it must have been obvious to them what her state of mind was, but of course she was their cash cow so they were looking after their own interests.

Darlingsleepthief · 18/02/2020 21:56

I think they should scrap it.

I do watch it, but won’t be any more as it just feels disrespectful.

GeePipe · 18/02/2020 21:59

I agree it should be scrapped. I think any show that brings on talentless nobodies and plays on peoples vulnerabilities and encourages gross obsession with looks and becoming famous for absolutely no reason should be scrapped. We should be encouraging talent in things we watch not encouraging impressionable young people that they can get plastic surgery and sleep with strangers to win a talent show basically. Mental health is a huge issue and i think people are being very obtuse by claiming depression and addiction ended their lives not things like love island, when culture and society plays a huge role in peoples lives and feelings as well.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 18/02/2020 22:01

I wish you'd enabled voting. yes it should be cancelled, and yes because of Caroline Flack. It seems distasteful to carry on after this series, it's had its day. I know it's a big money maker for ITV but some things matter more than money.

Elizadoeslittle19 · 18/02/2020 22:06

Caroline Flack didn't take her own life because of Love Island, from what I have read she loved presenting that show. Caroline has obviously had some problems highlighted in the press / social media etc. And I suspect that following the incident with her boyfriend she has been on the downward spiral, (if not perhaps prior to that) so much so she thought suicide was the only way out. So tragic.
The other 2 people who very sadly took their own life didn't do so because of Love Island. From what I have read about them, they had alcohol, drugs, financial, bereavement issues all factors which would have contributed to their suicide.
I have never watched Love Island so can't comment on what the programme is a really about, whether the programme is any good, or what kind of image it portrays to people.
There are many people in the 'non celebrity' world who fall into that downward spiral or that vicious circle and feel the only way out is suicide, it is very hard to understand when you are not in that mindset.
It is so very sad when anyone takes their own life. #Bekind.

Mummadeeze · 18/02/2020 22:20

I don’t agree that it is shite TV at all. The production values are great and the format is very entertaining. I love watching it on catch up every morning on my commute. It makes me laugh and moves me and often restores my faith in human nature as the contestants find great friendships in there as well as romantic relationships. I have low self esteem, especially when it comes to men, and I have learned a great deal from watching how the women on it conduct themselves and expect to be treated. Mostly they are very self assured and make good role models in terms of not letting men treat you like crap. Feel shocked and sad about Caroline Flack’s death of course but I don’t think the programme itself is to blame. So YABU.

Herefortheweaning · 18/02/2020 22:29

I must admit. I've been a huge Love Island fan since the first series, but last night, I just felt it didn't sit right with me. Caroline's death wasn't anything to do with the show. She apparently loved the show, as did most of us. I just felt something was missing last night. Like, there's more going on in the world than watching this tripe. I haven't watched it tonight and I don't plan on watching the rest of this series and perhaps any more they make now. Just doesn't feel right.

Is should be banned for its exploitation, unrealistic images, the fakery and its bad example to set to teenagers.

PointlessAddict · 19/02/2020 09:23

They should cancel it for being puerile garbage, not because of CF.

This

Vacuous shite

DdraigGoch · 19/02/2020 09:49

Don’t you think it’s better now Jeremy kyle is gone?
Not really, I never watched that sort of rubbish anyway.

flower1994 · 19/02/2020 10:24

Janemarpling social media has got more to answer for. you wanna tackle unrealistic images you need to gun for Instagram etc. first

DenimDrift · 19/02/2020 10:38
