Enough so enough, I’m not saying this because of what’s happened To Caroline flack
Bit two contestants have taken their lives after being on this show where they are pitted against each other
Last night was awful how they all had to say who was the most vain, lazy fake

Come
On we’ve got rid of Jeremy Kyle now it’s time to bin love island

OP posts:
Mummyoflittledragon · 18/02/2020 16:16

YABU op love island and Jeremy Kyle couldn’t be more different. JK was nasty entertainment. Guests were lied to and set up to look bad or go off on one. The contestants on love island actually are pretty supportive of one another. The show has learnt an awful lot and there appears to be a very different tone than JK.

Legoandloldolls · 18/02/2020 16:17

From what I've seen, most Love Island contestants would swim through a lake of ebola infested vomit if there was a radio interview on the other side.

😆this

Chillicheese123 · 18/02/2020 16:19

I think we need to ask ourselves why some people want this instant fame ? What is it that attracts them?

It is obviously a product of the fact that Instagram and reality tv exists however if the same things existed 100 years ago I think certain people would still have been keen to get famous etc. I think it’s a personality type, aided and abetted by social media and technology

flower1994 · 18/02/2020 16:20

no I dont think it should be cancelled, people have a choice. watch it or dont there are plenty of other channels. Instagram is probably worse in my opinion for setting unrealistic expectations. scrap love island all you want, wouldnt make any odds to the society we live in today in my opinion, not all the while you have all the other social media out there (think snapchat, Facebook, WhatsApp etc.) seems unfair to only call love island out

this show where they are pitted against each other

As they also are on Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity, Strictly Come Dancing.

Do you want rid of all of these?

thecatsthecats · 18/02/2020 16:24

I'd look at Instagram before TV programs, and Twitter.

Direct access to public personalities, direct feedback, validation through likes... I steer well clear, to be honest.

I've seen several friends begin to tweak the way they talk about themselves in real life as if they're presenting to a global audience and the effect is just weird.

NormanChrist · 18/02/2020 16:25

I’d get rid of utter shit like naked attraction before Love Island tbh.

Wannabangbang · 18/02/2020 16:31

It isn't the show that's responsible or any shows. It's the tabloids and social media keyboard warriors making people's lifes hell on earth.
People should not be able to spread hate and put things out in the tabloids until someone is atleast proven guilty in the court of law for the things said they commited.

What we going to ban everything and you think that's going to help because no it won't

SlippersAndThePaper · 18/02/2020 16:33

No I don’t think it should be cancelled.

AlternativePerspective · 18/02/2020 16:41

People should not be able to spread hate and put things out in the tabloids until someone is atleast proven guilty in the court of law for the things said they commited. agree but then that should go for everyone

I’m sure that if the allegations had been the other way around mn’ers would have been happily condemning the man in question. (Am talking about the assault claims here)

Also plenty of allegations going around about Philip Schofield even threads claiming that the ITV have gagged the press and are involved in a cover up and how this should be the end of his career etc etc when he hasn’t been charged with any kind of crime.

What goes for one should go for everyone else.

Bloomburger · 18/02/2020 16:48

I only saw the part where Maura was trying to seduce:assault Tommy, found it v v uncomfortable. I'd imagine it would definitely be assault if sexed were reversed.

The whole premise of it is revolting and I wonder if people would be happy with their child being on it I know I wouldn't. Seems to attract very vulnerable women.

Just revolting exploitative garbage.

Toria70 · 18/02/2020 16:52

The two contestants were found to have cocktails of cocaine and alcohol in their systems. Caroline Flack was known to have depression that she was taking medication for and drinking.

Don't see how ITV are to blame for people's poor life choices.

Wannabangbang · 18/02/2020 16:57

Yes should go for everyone else. We are not the judge and jury and no one behind a keyboard or newspaper should be allowed to ruin someones life. I have been victim to facebook bullying and had my name slung through the mud, my life was made hell im still on antidepressants because of it. Its scary how someone can steal your pictures and essentially name you and slate you daily online to the general population and the police to nada about it because they have so little money to deal with big crimes let alone crimes like that. Completely refrained from all social media now except from mumsnet where i can be anonymous

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/02/2020 16:59

As above caroline flack early had existing issues with mental health (and it seems, abusing her partners). She will not be the first person to have committed suicide after losing a job, being publically embarrassed or facing police action and she won't the last either. Certainly the CPS needs to review how it deals with cases of suicide risk but anyone who works within that branch of professionalism knows suicide and police action often go hand in hand. There is limited help for anyone with mental health issues full stop, or victims of domestic abuse and she would have had access and offer to a great deal more than most, which sadly was not enough to save her life and provide help she needed.

Love island is misogynistic nonsense and I wish it would be scrapped on those grounds so Yanbu there.

DameXanaduBramble · 18/02/2020 17:01

Yes it should, but only because it’s vacuous twaddle. I thought the thread about the show on Sunday was in very poor taste. I know it wasn’t the reason but i still felt it inappropriate.

Sickofrain · 18/02/2020 17:03

They should cancel it for being puerile garbage, not because of CF.

Fairyliz · 18/02/2020 17:08

Well the best way to get it cancelled is if everyone stops watching it.

Redwinestillfine · 18/02/2020 17:08

They should cancel it because it's trash tv

Bubblemonkey · 18/02/2020 17:14

Jezza got taken off tv. Shite Island should too

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 18/02/2020 17:22

Look at the amount of musicians and actors who have sadly, taken their lives.

Should we cancel films and music too?

I believe I read somewhere that Farmers are far more likely to take their life than the majority of other professions. Should we stop them working too?

Sometimes people make sad choices, they come from all walks of life. Cancelling anything vaguely connected is ridiculous.

If you feel so passionately, switch your TV off, vote that way, or you are contributing to, what you perceive as being, the problem.

Jeremy Kyle being stopped literally had no impact on my life because I never watched it. I've never seen Love Island either so that would affect my life, but If you watch this stuff usually, then vote with your feet.

RingPiece · 18/02/2020 17:39

No, it shouldn't. It's just a show. If it really had caused suicides then there would have been many many more. Ridiculous to suggest a TV programme is to blame when there are a multitude of factors involved in someone wanting to take their own life.
Also you can't call for a show to be cancelled just because you don't watch it/ like it/ think it's high-brow enough. It's just a TV programme.

EmeraldShamrock · 18/02/2020 17:46

Yes it is a modern day circus. I haven't watched it though I don't think it is ever ok to confine adults for entertainment, big brother put me off for life.
I admit I enjoy I'm a celebrity get me out of here, they usually have fun. Is it because they've no makeup and mirrors.

AlwaysCheddar · 18/02/2020 17:51

She took her life it seems because of the dv with her boyfriend and subsequent split, and pending court case.... not to do with love island. The morals of love island are a different kettle of fish.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 18/02/2020 18:02

I don't watch it, I would imagine the quickest way to get it taken off air would be a huge drop in viewers, you watch it so are adding to the problem YABU 🤷‍♀️
