What exactly is this? Someone dressed as a princess teaching kids how to be likewise?

OP posts:
Cyberlibre · 16/02/2020 17:39

Huh? I'm confused?!

TickledOnion · 16/02/2020 17:39

I don’t think there’s any teaching involved. It’s just a party with a princess theme. Usually based on Disney princesses. Not sure what you don’t get about it.

GreenTulips · 16/02/2020 17:40

It’ll be all glitter fancy dresses and pink cakes with a bit of added sparkle.

My idea of hell.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 16/02/2020 17:40

I would assume it meant the kids are supposed to dress up as Princesses but could be wrong.

Hoik · 16/02/2020 17:40

When we went to one it was basically the princess acting as a sort of host. She led the party games, taught the children some party dances, read a themed story, and then did the cake/happy birthday before crowning the birthday girl an "honorary princess".

poppyonastring · 16/02/2020 17:41

Anyone else seeing 200% for YABU?! Confused

TulipCat · 16/02/2020 17:41

Most commonly hosted by young girls, they all dress up in princess costume but do the usual sort of party games.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 16/02/2020 17:42

I think it depends on the age of the participants

Ponoka7 · 16/02/2020 17:45

It's a dress up party which is themed around Princesses. Mostly Disney ones.

Catapillarsruletheworld · 16/02/2020 17:45

Princess themed, so you know, dressing up, princess decorations, princess style party bags, princess cake etc etc. A dream for many a 4 year old, a nightmare for many parents.

FleurNancy · 16/02/2020 17:46

Pa ha ha!! Yeah if it's for your husbands' mates' 40th I'd give it a wide berth...

It's reinforcement of adult gender stereotypes on young girls.

Where does the OP say this type of party is only for girls?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/02/2020 17:51

All the children dress as princesses then they have a party

Spied · 16/02/2020 17:54

Ime it's all fancy dresses, fairy cakes and pink decorations. Maybe a pink bouncy castle.
DD has been to 2/3.
No adult princess teaching or anything like that.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/02/2020 17:54

If a venue is advertising oen, I'd assume princess host, maybe afternoon tea style, themed games etc.

If you've been invited to one in the local church hall, I'd assume princess dresses and princess cake

BrieAndChilli · 16/02/2020 18:08

To be honest I find this feminist ‘girls shouldn’t like anything girly as it’s gender stereotypes’ just as bad as enforcing gender stereotypes.
DD loved Disney princesses when she was younger, she has 2 brothers so was overly exposed to Thomas tank, superheroes etc as well but she choose knights and princesses for one of her parties and Frozen for another.
She’s not an overly girly girl. She’s 11 and although loves glitter and unicorns she is also a scout and equally at home romping around the woods in the mud and making a shelter to sleep in from sticks and tarp.

Surely it should be like what you like, doesn’t matter if a bunch of girls want to dress as princesses or dress as scientists or if a bunch of boys want to dress as princesses.
As long as girls are exposed to a range of possibilities it shouldn’t matter what they choose

ItsAllTheDramaMickIJustLoveIt · 16/02/2020 18:11

As others have said it’s a party themed around princesses. What’s hard to understand about that?

Arthritica · 16/02/2020 18:26

Fancy dress on a princess theme

RitaandRuby · 16/02/2020 18:37

@reginafelangee

couldn't have put it better myself

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/02/2020 18:40

I've never been to one as I only have DS who is not into princesses. One of the girls in his class had one but only invited the girls. I would have thought it's just dressing up as their favourite princess.

WinterCat · 16/02/2020 18:41

Hmm Did you are the attention the OP who got their knickers in a twist about the pirates party got, so wanted to join in?

My DD has just been to a rainbow party. The birthday girl wore a brightly coloured outfit and the other boys and girls wore whatever they liked. There were no lessons about the weather involved. Grin

PreseaCombatir · 16/02/2020 18:43

BrieAndChilli
I agree completely, there’s nothing inherently inferior about ‘femininity’ as opposed to ‘masculinity’.
