I'm 43 and swooning at meeting a weird 90s indie teenage band crush tonight!!

Light-hearted!

I'm a sane(ish) kinda gal. I'll also admit to having the most random taste in fellas. It harks back to my days as a painfully right-on indie kid in the 90s

My crushes were James Dean Bradfield (Manics), Johnny Dean (Menswear), Brett Anderson (Suede), Brian Molko (Placebo)... and many more.

Tonight I saw My Life Story. I loved them back in the day. Jake, the lead singer did a free 'meet and greet' afterwards. I was like a daft school girl. Totally got a selfie.

What's happened to me,? FFS! 🤣 I never usually get star struck. Mid life crisis? 👀

This is so cute 😊 good for you OP

@TheFluffiestCat Aged 17 I was on the grass in Hyde Park 10 feet from Mark. Was too starstruck to say hello to him.

TheFluffiestCat I saw Mark outside a pub in Salisbury once on his phone. He was having a right old row with the person on the other end, Simon and Jez were laughing like naughty schoolboys.

Thedrowners30 · 16/02/2020 17:44

Amazing op. I’d be star struck as well!

You have great taste in both men and musicGrin

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 16/02/2020 17:56

@Thedrowners30 Why, thank you.

I think you have v good taste....!

I went to a my life story gig a couple of years ago. I was really worried we'd be the oldest in the room by a mile, but it was all us old 90s brtipoppers 30years later. We went to the bar attached to the venue after the gig and Jake and the band came in and my friend made me go and talk to him. So we did, and ended up getting pissed with them till 3am. Was awesome. I'd never have had the balls when I was 20.

PhilSwagielka · 16/02/2020 19:38

OP, I'm a huge fan of Space and can relate. I still fancy Tommy and Franny, though I wish Franny would grow his damn hair. I'm 35 and I've been into them since 1996.

I saw MLS at Starshaped a couple of years ago and loved them.

rattusrattus20 · 16/02/2020 19:39

I always liked Brian Molko, but he lost his looks at what seemed like an exceptionally young age. I suppose it's a very tricky thing to pull of, the whole pretty man in makeup/drag/etc.

PhilSwagielka · 16/02/2020 19:46

He started looking a bit like Dean Gaffney when he got older. I did like Placebo though. I went to a Britpop night for a mate's birthday on Friday and it made me feel old realising some of these tunes are 30 years old.

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 16/02/2020 20:08

Dean Gaffney. I'm done. 🤣🤣🤣

@PhilSwagielka Tommy kissed my cheek when he came down to the front row at Shiiine On festival a couple of years ago. I proper swooned.

I love Brian Molko Grin

PhilSwagielka · 16/02/2020 20:11

@GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery I've met them a few times and sang The Ballad Of Tom Jones with them. I love Catatonia too, so I was made up that I got to be Cerys.

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 16/02/2020 20:15

@PhilSwagielka that's amazing. I fit dragged up onstage go play tambourine for Solitary Party Groover at a Drugstore gig when I was 18.

@NemophilistRebel He was a total babe.

Screamed till I was hoarse for two days at concerts of teenage crushes in my early thirties and early forties!!! No shame!!! Loved it!!! Glad you enjoyed yourself OP!!! Grin Grin Grin

BabloHoney · 16/02/2020 20:22

I regularly remind my husband of 10 years i’d leave him if Jonny Greenwood offered Grin

Meggie2008 · 16/02/2020 20:24

Brian Molko though 😍

AriadnesFilament · 16/02/2020 20:25

Ah, Menswear. Fond memories.

PhilSwagielka · 16/02/2020 20:27

All the old Britpop bands are getting back together now. Space at least have new material - they've got an album out at some point. Their last one was quite synthpoppy and the one before that was more punk. Apparently the new one sounds like Spiders, which is great cos Spiders was my fave.

Catatonia and Kenickie are the only bands who definitely won't be getting back together. Cerys and Lauren are too busy with their own careers now and I don't think Cerys was ever really into the kind of stuff Catatonia did. All her solo stuff is basically folk music and covers.

paradyning · 16/02/2020 20:29

OMG My Life Story! Love them.
Hardly anyone knows about them now. I love Angel

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 16/02/2020 20:30

@BiggapTwins you'd have a coronary if you came to Shiiine On festival then.

GetMeOffThisCycleOfMisery · 16/02/2020 20:31

@paradyning They are making new material. Still put on quite a shoe. Jake is my unconventional dreamboat.
