AIBU to think Sainsburys broccoli and tomato quiche is a let down

I'm normally not fussy and eat most things and hate food waste. Just bought a tomato and broccoli quiche from Sainsbury’s and it is awful. All in date and warmed as per instructions but it tastes rank! I ate it though. Just wondered if any MNetters had tried it and thought the same?

It's quiche, therefore it's rank.

ScribblyGum · 14/02/2020 19:09

Nowt worse than a disappointing quiche.

Poohpooh · 14/02/2020 19:11

I think all the generic supermarket quiches aren't great?

The Waitrose mini cheese quiche is nice, but pretty standard. I don't like the Tesco and Asda ones.

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 14/02/2020 19:13

Yes, it’s horrible. All tasteless and watery.

Curiosity101 · 14/02/2020 19:13

I agree. I love the Tesco one, but Sainsbury's is a bit weird. I think it's the seasoning they use? I remember it having a weird aftertaste - maybe Thyme and/or Oregano?

blondeemily · 14/02/2020 19:13

Me! Sounded like something I would love but...yuck

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/02/2020 19:14

I've had this before and remember it being ok. Was years ago though!

Nonnymum · 14/02/2020 19:16

I've had it before and I liked it. There aren't many quiches I don't like though

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 14/02/2020 19:18

All quiche is disgusting 🤷‍♀️ can't just single out tesco.

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:19

I usually know what to expect with shop bought quiche and have had them from Lidl, Aldi, Tesco before but this Sainsbury's one was awful. They put the tomato at the base and it was horrible and acidic and just didn't go. It sounded so good as well, what's not to like, everything about it after eating it!

Waitrose and higgeldy quiches only. I buy and freeze when on offer. The Sainsbury’s ones are particularly vile (only tried a couple of times though).

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:21

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion I normally like quiche though but I am singling out Sainsbury’s as their version is rank

Clawdy · 14/02/2020 19:22

Aldi caramelised onion is probably the nicest. Lots of quiches are a bit tasteless.

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:22

@Nonnymum you weren't put off by the soggy acidic tomato? I put loads of black pepper on it to try and make it taste better but I will honestly never buy it again. I wonder how it passed the taste test to be honest.

Chill-cabinet quiche is grim. It all tastes like damp socks. My DM went through a obsessive phase where every other conversation seemed to be about the most recent Sainsburys quiche her and my DF had eaten, always with new potatoes and utterly fucking lollo rosso, the least appealing lettuce in the world. Thankfully she's recovered now.

Titsywoo · 14/02/2020 19:23

Yeah it's like a load of tomato puree as a base and overpowers everything else. Plus the pastry is too thick and stodgy and there isn't enough cheese in it.

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:23

@Clawdy I agree! I love that one, with the maple bacon? Probably cheaper too even though it's Aldi's premium range

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/02/2020 19:24

Omg. An Aibu about one type of quiche.

You are being very very very unreasonable.

Post in food. Or something.

formerbabe · 14/02/2020 19:25

I've never tried it but it's tomato and broccoli quiche...how nice could it actually be even if made from scratch by the top chefs in the world...?

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:25

@Titsywoo glad you agree overall.. The pastry was actually fine and I didn't expect much cheese as it was stage healthy version so I know it would need to be green or amber in food labelling for fats and salt content. But the filling was disgusting. I can't believe Sainsburys think that taste good! Who is testing their products! How hard is it to make a nice quiche. I would say forget the tomato as it just does not go well

I've never tasted a bought supermarket quiche that came near what I make so easily at home. I think they must use dried egg or something. It's all brought down to price.

If I'd only ever had bought quiche, I would say I don't like quiche!

sawyersfishbiscuits · 14/02/2020 19:27

Broccoli in a Quiche is wrong on so many levels. Even M&S Salmon and broccoli quiche isn't tasty. Just wrong. A nice homemade quiche with bacon and red onion in is lovely... mmmm

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:27

@ThroughThickAndThin01 i wanted to know if it was just me that found it inedible as usually I'm not fussy and eat anything.

OP posts:
scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:28

@sawyersfishbiscuits sounds so good. Thanks for the heads up as I would have probably bought the m and s one as it sounds like my kind of quiche!

scotlandtobali · 14/02/2020 19:30

@LadyMonicaBaddingham haha sounds like me and your dm have a lot of interest in supermarket quiches! Ahah might be better discussing with her as I'm getting flack for posting this in AIBU!
Ps - I agree re lettuce but would eat it with balsamic dressing but wouldn't be my first choice. It's still tastier than said quiche
