Just that.
I've new neighbours who always seem to be peering in our large lounge windows.
Right now I fancy a sleep on the couch but I just can't relax.
Is there a net curtain out there that isn't gross?

I think sheer voile with no design/lace/holes etc is the least offensive :)

OhioOhioOhio · 13/02/2020 15:13

Voile. Hm. What's voile? And, do I buy double the width like normal curtains?

LemonBreeland · 13/02/2020 15:14

I bought the completely plain stuff and I didn't buy it wide to ruche, I just pulled it straight across the window. I feel it looks better like that. I got it from Dunelm.

Doyoumind · 13/02/2020 15:15

You can get stuff you stick on your windows so they look frosted. You can just have a panel rather than the whole window covered.

LaMarschallin · 13/02/2020 15:17

I used a lace Roman blind, but I suspect it might not have been on such a big window.

PooWillyBumBum · 13/02/2020 15:19

I bought stick on frosted window stuff. Sounds naff but actually really easy to fit and much more modern looking than nets.

OhioOhioOhio · 13/02/2020 15:19

So voile the width of the window? I wish I had it now. Would Dunelm do it?

TakeMeToYourLiar · 13/02/2020 15:19

These are my lounge windows with the stick on plastic mentioned up thread

It's been there 6 years without issue.

It would peel straight off if I needed it to

I've got a voile panel from Dunelm, it stops next door but one staring through our window nicely Grin

RhubarbRocks · 13/02/2020 15:20

As doyoumind says, window film is an alternative. I’ve used the one on the right of this picture and it was very easy to stick on. You buy a roll of it and cut out the size you need.

There is loads of condensation in the morning so I doubt it would stick. Thanks for the lovely pics though.

Does the voile stick up with that kind of bet curtain wire?

OP posts:
GiveHerHellFromUs · 13/02/2020 15:22

Those of you with the film: don't you like to see out of the windows?

OP are blinds an option? I hate net curtains with a passion Grin

rosie561 · 13/02/2020 15:24

Ours is on a wooden pole that the net curtains belonging to the previous owner used to be on.

AutumnRose1 · 13/02/2020 15:26

OP

how do they peer in? I mean, how far are they, is it the people across the street?

I live in a flat but could never be on a ground floor with no blinds or something to obscure the outside view in.

Curiosity101 · 13/02/2020 15:26

You could even get one way glass stickers - even with condensation it should stay stuck.

Doyoumind · 13/02/2020 15:29

I don't think condensation would affect it the vinyl. It's pretty strong adhesive.

SallyLovesCheese · 13/02/2020 15:29

I used to work in curtains. You can get thin, light rods to hang voiles in places that sell curtains. Usually they can be fixed to the wall or window frame with adhesive pads, as the voiles are so light, so you don't even have to drill holes! You can buy voile panels to different widths and it's up to you if you want it flat or extra width for gathering. www.dunelm.com/category/home-and-furniture/curtains-and-blinds/curtains/voile-and-net-curtains

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 13/02/2020 15:31

You need a blind...

Net curtains are for people with absolutely no style and they make your home cry with shame!

How do your neighbours peep in? Are your homes that close togther?

LongLiveTheQueenBee · 13/02/2020 15:34

We live in a terrace so net curtains are a must.
We have a voile with small squares on (it was the most plain that they had where we bought)
We bought double the width as we like a rouch...and in certain lights you can see through if it's straight across so it's a bit extra privacy)

AJPTaylor · 13/02/2020 15:35

We have nets up on daughters bedroom windows for obvious reasons. Maybe I should week with shame but I can't muster that.

ThePlantsitter · 13/02/2020 15:37

I live on a terrace too. I just pull moonies if people look in. It's too dingy in our house for nets or voile or misty stickers.

LongLiveTheQueenBee · 13/02/2020 15:37

You just reminded me of the net curtains mil gave us...big Lacey flowers and scalloped edges.... Luckily they were too long so we thanked her and gave them back...my house breathed a sigh of relief and cried tears of joy.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/02/2020 15:40

I've just ordered this one and I don't care what people think, I don't want to feel like I'm in a goldfish bowl.

Dawndeer · 13/02/2020 15:41

Zebra blinds might work well?

ShinyGiratina · 13/02/2020 15:42

Sheer roller blinds. We've managed to get them in Dunelm. Previously we had to get them specially made and the specialist blinds company thought it was an odd request until they were installed.

Streamlined look, easy to raise when you want to maximise light, easy to layer with a blackout blind/ curtains.
