Just that.
I've new neighbours who always seem to be peering in our large lounge windows.
Right now I fancy a sleep on the couch but I just can't relax.
Is there a net curtain out there that isn't gross?

Plantsitter “ I just pull moonies if people look in”

Good work!

BarbaraofSeville · 13/02/2020 15:43

do I buy double the width like normal curtains

If you look at my link above, there's pictures of what it looks like when the voile is various widths from same to 3x the window width.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 13/02/2020 15:44

There is something you can get to cover your windows with where you can see out but the person outside can see themselves I got mine from ebay

RockinHippy · 13/02/2020 15:46

You need window film, not net curtains. It's way better & easier to keep clean too 👍🏻

Echobelly · 13/02/2020 15:46

Opaque roller blinds can be nicer

Grandmi · 13/02/2020 15:49

Get a blind...net curtains are so dated!

RockinHippy · 13/02/2020 15:50

Love ours, it makes rainbows on my walls & floor with the sun

But you can't see out the window if you put film on it?
Whereas net curtains allow you to look out, but people not to look in.

ExpectTheWorst · 13/02/2020 15:57

You can also put net curtain fabric (you can choose a trendy cool one) driectly on the windows like the film. This means you can still look out but looking in is much much more difficult. I did this on my kitchen, only on the bottom half of the windows. I found a tutorial online on how to do it - you stick it with a flour paste!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 13/02/2020 15:57

The net curtain shame on here is horrendous, reminds me of the Crocs debacle Grin. My windows are perfectly happy with my tasteful silver voils.

Baaaahhhhh · 13/02/2020 16:00

La Redoute is good for plain voiles. I hang mine with tensioned wire which you can get from IKEA. I have the ones that tie with a bow at the top, so easy to put up and down.

m00rfarm · 13/02/2020 16:08

The John Lewis "basic" ones are brilliant and such good value. www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-the-basics-voile-eyelet-panel-white/p1963495

TakeMeToYourLiar · 13/02/2020 16:09

@Giveherhellfromus I only have film on the bottom pane so I can see out the top.

OP, as long as window is dry when you first apply it will stick

muffin21 · 13/02/2020 16:11

A day night blind? I think they look better than net curtains and if you ever want them open you just pull them up.

I don't get the net curtain hate on here - fair enough if they're frilly monstrosities but I have linen-effect voiles at the front of my house and I really like them. I tried using the plastic film in an old house and the condensation made it go black and horrible around the edges, and over time the damp made the corners peel. It was also really annoying that I couldn't see out anymore!

hairyxmasturkey · 13/02/2020 16:21

We have purlfrost vinyl frosting, on the bottom half, as long as it is dry when you put it on, condensation doesn't bother it .

Weebitawks · 13/02/2020 16:27

My neighbours have blinds that you can see out of but can't see into. Good idea but I personally don't think they're particularly attractive. Fuck function I'm all about appearances.

viccat · 13/02/2020 16:27

I have linen voile panels in the front bay window and they look nice, they have a subtle striped pattern through them and offer good coverage with lots of light coming through. Mine are from John Lewis but a few years back now so probably the exact same ones aren't available but there'll be similar ones.

I don't like the idea of the frosted sticker stuff because once it's on, then you're stuck with it.

InfiniteSheldon · 13/02/2020 16:29

Love my net curtains they are a vintage pattern of doves and flowers go beautifully with my white velvet curtains doubt they maje3 my house cry with shame but if they do #nofucksgiven GrinGrinGrinGrin

HeyLala · 13/02/2020 16:35

I have this problem as I'm on a public pathway. Everyone seems to go out for an early evening walk in the Summer and just peer in as I'm lying on sofa watching tv.
My room is a little higher than the street level so I bought shutters and got them spilt so I can close the bottom ones and angle the vents.
I then leave the top ones open to bring in the light.
Not a cheap option but looks great and does the job.

AdmiralSnackbar · 13/02/2020 16:36

I love these from Timorous Beasties...not your usual voiles! A bit too pricey for me, but I can dream.

Twillow · 13/02/2020 16:37

I bought some long white linen panel curtains from TKMaxx and hung them sideways by threading a wire through the side hem, I like them especially from the inside. If the lights are on in the dark you can see in a bit though. The house had vertical blinds when we moved in which personally I loathed, although will commend for their practicality and do let light in without people being able to see in when they're closed.

goldfinchfan · 13/02/2020 16:48

If you have a window sill you could grow houseplants to shield you.

I have done this is in the past as I also hate nets.
Also used muslin cloth one time. Off white/unbleached.
A bit rustic looking.
