To not know how to use a flannel?

ComeTheFuck0nBridget · 13/02/2020 11:32

I went to a Temple Spa party my friend was having a while ago. The person who was demonstrating all the products handed us all a hot flannel to wipe our faces with, and it was heavenly!

I've never used one before and I have bought a couple now but I haven't started using them because I'm not sure how to?

I know that sounds really silly but do you use them to take off your makeup? Or do you wash your face and then wipe off your soap/cleanser with them?

Also, then what do you do with them - where do you store them? We don't have a towel rail in the bathroom, just a radiator at the moment as we've not long since moved into a new house. Do you wash them after every use or is it more of a weekly thing? How many do I need?

I feel very silly that I've gotten to 30 years old without knowing this! Grin

@BlueEyedFloozy my skin is pretty much cast iron, I never react to anything else. If it was the washing detergent, it should happen when I dry my face on a towel as well?

MintyMabel · 13/02/2020 15:10

The only people I know who have flannels are elderly.

Oh behave. I'm in my 40s and have used flannels since about birth. If they were that rare, they wouldn't be provided as standard in decent hotels.

soap, water and hands

does very little to wash you properly.

Namechanger001 · 13/02/2020 15:18

@KiddingMyself What do you do with a flannel in the bedroom?

His n hers...

The penis beaker and the fanny flannel 😂

I use cheapest basic baby wipes, a sonic cleansing brush & foaming cleanser, splash off with water & dry on a towel. Having a teenage ds I would rather not know where the flannel has been, I imagine he probably uses it to clean the shower out after using it.

Basically... but we're both use flannels 🤭

Have you really just asked how to use a flannel? And people have answered you seriously?

Mind. Boggled.

I love , after make up removed, to get the flannel quite hot after rinsing under the hot tap then wrong it out then place it over my face for a quick steam spa. I then wipe my face with the flannel to exfoliate and clean and voila! Pop a serum or moisturiser on and you are BEAUTIFUL!!! ( might want to let the redness go down for a few minutes!)

AlanRickmanFanClub · 13/02/2020 19:17

For various reasons too boring to go into, I can't shower or bathe so use three flannels; one for my face, one for my body and one for my bits - all differently coloured. They are all frequently washed and seem to do the job quite well.

It's mostly the rubbing under water that makes you clean. Adding soap (not shower gel ofr fake dove soap but an oldfashioned real bar of soap) adds the antibacterial process. Of course it washes you properly! The flannel doesn't magic bacteria away.

Teresajune · 14/02/2020 16:30

I have always used a flannel to wash my face in the morning. I run it under the hot tap then wring it out quickly and wash my face with it while it's still hot. I don't feel clean unless I've done that. Then I rinse it, and hang it over the side of the bath. I use two or three a week and wash them weekly in with the hot wash.

ChristmasFluff · 14/02/2020 18:15

I'm a recent convert to bamboo flannels, having used cotton wool and cleanser forever. I'm amazed at how much better my skin is - smoother with more refined pores.

I use it to wash off cleanser - soap makes my skin way too dry

Aridane · 15/02/2020 09:25

Exactly, @oldfashionedtastingtea - surgeons and medics don’t use flannels to wash their hands!!

HappydaysArehere · 15/02/2020 09:34

I am elderly and I rarely use a flannel. I use my hands and aqueous cream In place of soap for washing all over. As the shower never seems to do a good job on my feet I have a dedicated bowl I fill with hot water and some kind of shower soap. I stand in this and move my feet around usually when cleaning my teeth!

LittleRen · 15/02/2020 10:12

I have always used a flannel, every single night. I remove my makeup and then use a lovely hot flannel to wipe my face and then the rest of my routine... I love it, feels really cleansing. I use them once and wash so we have a lot of flannels!!

StrawberrySquash · 15/02/2020 11:52

I rub hot cloth cleanser into my face. Take it off with a hot flannel. If I've used tons of makeup, I'll use a remover first, but generally I don't wear much and I don't mind getting it on an old flannel too much. I hang them to dry over the bath's shower rail. You could use a tiny stick on hook? I use for a couple of days and then stick in the washing basket (but only when dry so they don't fester)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/02/2020 11:54

I have a small basket with neatly rolled flannels in it Kondo style. I use them to remove makeup then straight in the wash.

@kiddingmyself Maybe some of these will be handy? www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183944948277

flannels are fab - great for gentle exfoliating too, especially if you use them in a circular motion. every colour except white or cream though.

Nameofchanges · 15/02/2020 12:35

Flannel is one of the few words left from the ordinary Brittonic language people used before English. It refers to a small piece of material. Please keep saying flannel and don’t let it die out!

speakout · 15/02/2020 19:23

Nameofchanges

The word is much more widespread than Brittonic. Gaelic and Nordic laguages use almost the same word, and Germanic too.

PelicanPie · 15/02/2020 19:59

I have never used a flannel. I wash my face with face wash and water with hands, rinse and dry. If I wear makeup I use cleanser with a Muslin cloth or cotton wool. Or use wash off foaming cleanser.
I wash myself with shower gel or soap and a sponge from the body shop in the shower.
