Liqourish or Liqouriss?

PyongyangKipperbang · 12/02/2020 23:25

I say Liqourish but in a couple of audio books I have listened to lately, both the readers say Liqouriss.

Am I wrong?!

YANBU for Liqourish
YABU for Liqouriss

recrudescence · 13/02/2020 06:44

Now I am going to buy some.

woodencoffeetable · 13/02/2020 06:55

-ish
love it. want some now. the scandi kind, slightly salty. yum.

EBearhug · 13/02/2020 07:28

Salty liquorice is an abomination. I got very excited when my Dutch colleagues said they were sending me some liquorice - I was thinking Pontefract cakes or similar. And then I received a load if salty drop. Weird people, salting it.

I went to Pontefract museum last year - which is in a beautiful building. I was a bit disappointed at the lack of liquorice information, just one small display with one photo and a large weighing scale. And I couldn't actually find any Pontefract cakes in Pontefract. Had to make do with liquorice twists from Tesco.

HavelockVetinari · 13/02/2020 07:29

Ish

Perhaps they are just called 'cakes' in Pontefract which is why you couldn't find them. 😂

Walkacrossthesand · 13/02/2020 07:45

Liquorice ice cream. My favourite, pretty much only available in Scandinavia. I alternate between iss and ish because I'm not sure!

NameChange84 · 13/02/2020 07:51

It’s licoriss for me. I have been pulled up on it but ish feels wrong for me to say and makes me cringe when I attempt to lol.

StrumpersPlunkett · 13/02/2020 07:53

Ish

LampHat · 13/02/2020 08:08

@PurpleFlower1983 I hope you’re ashamed of yourselves.

0blio · 13/02/2020 08:14

Iss here and I'm Scottish.

Isn't Pontefract pronounced Pumfret or something? If so, how can they pronounce anything correctly? Grin

PineappleDanish · 13/02/2020 08:29

Probably regional. Lickor-iss here in Scotland. ISH sounds ridiculous to me.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 13/02/2020 08:44

I'm from Pontefract (pronounced Pontefract @0blio or just "Ponty") and say liquoriSH.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 13/02/2020 08:46

Both.

WoodliceInSunderland · 13/02/2020 08:55

Lickerish. ✅

nooooooo, salty liquorice is devine and definitely helps against sore throats.

amusedbush · 13/02/2020 09:11

Central Scotland, I say "lickoriss". "Lickorish" annoys me for some reason.

Although not as much as people calling sherbet "sherbert" Angry

Redwoodmaz · 13/02/2020 09:12

'Ish' - and I love it!

SidneyPrescott · 13/02/2020 09:16

I've just googled, and "ish" is American and "iss" is British, apparently.

I say ish. I've never heard the "iss" sound at the end before this thread!

CatteStreet · 13/02/2020 09:18

Iss.

Can't stand the stuff.

Mamabear88 · 13/02/2020 09:22

Me and DH say iss but my mum and dad say ish so who knows!

EBearhug · 13/02/2020 14:59

people calling sherbet "sherbert"

Er, what should it be, then?

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 13/02/2020 15:02

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 13/02/2020 15:04
