Not really a TAAT but...

After looking at the #thisgirlcan ad with the tampon string hanging out.... how many people feel like exercising when they have their period? Not when its tailing off, but when it's full flow. I don't- I just want to sit around in loose, warm clothes and drink tea.
YABU= I totally feel like exercising during my period
YANBU= Nope, don't feel like exercising

I don't feel like it, but I do it. And it does make me feel better.

ChanklyBore · 09/02/2020 22:04

I feel much better exercising when I have my period. I feel crappy and sluggish otherwise. Exercise and that goes away. I feel trapped if I can’t exercise.

Saturdaysnotforexercise · 09/02/2020 22:05

Of some interest is how it affects elite athletes:

FelicityFebruary · 09/02/2020 22:05

I've always tried to walk every day.

That's my exercise.

Porcupineinwaiting · 09/02/2020 22:07

I dont feel like it, no, but I find it really helps with cramps so I do do it (going for a brisk walk, not aerobics).

FelicityFebruary · 09/02/2020 22:07

I too feel exhausted for first couple of days. No way I'd choose to do much at all!

Peanutbutteryogurt · 09/02/2020 22:08

Not me but it's only heavy and uncomfortable on the first day so that's only one day of no exercise! So if it falls on a non exercise day anyway then I don't miss anything.

LaPampa · 09/02/2020 22:09

I wouldn’t say I feel like it but I do it anyway if my usual exercise falls on a day when I’ve got my period.

Beseen19 · 09/02/2020 22:09

I make myself walk at least 15k steps on the 3 days before I'm due on then throughout my period. Always results in a less crampy easier period. I always feel very down a few days before my period and exercise really helps with that.

123rd · 09/02/2020 22:10

I do , and encourage any woman to too

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 09/02/2020 22:33

I love to exercise and it's very, very important to me.
I get cramps and as I head into menopause (I'm 49) they are more heavy and unpredictable and do have an effect on my performance, but actually it's the days leading up to which effect my performance more - I feel heavy and sluggish, so actually it's usually a relief when it starts.

It can be inconvenient if I'm racing (running) but I use a mooncup which helps.

Runningonempty84 · 09/02/2020 22:36

I do. First day of my period yesterday and it coincided with a 20-mile marathon training run, but I just cracked on with it. Wouldn't occur to me not to. Though I know some women get much heavier periods than I do, and would find it more difficult.

That said, my periods have become much lighter since I started running seriously (and lost weight). I wonder if the two are related. Suspect so.

Megan2018 · 09/02/2020 22:40

Mine are light, short and painless so they don’t impact on me at all fortunately!

Tootifroooooti · 09/02/2020 22:40

I usually feel like a steaming pile of shit when on a period and usually the week before it’s due.

My body really does not cope well with the change in hormones.

I’ve got adhesions on my pelvic wall and on my bowel which is also fun when my period arrives.

I don’t like doing anything when I’m on it and the pain, bloating & extreme tiredness usually writes off my week

WendyWonka · 09/02/2020 22:45

I do as it doesn’t affect me but only because months of HIT and weight lifting has made my, once horrific periods, pretty light and pain free. I used to have flooding and be barely able to leave the house for the first two days. I know it’s the exercise because when I stopped for 6 months the monthly bloodbath came back!

Careersytype · 09/02/2020 23:05

Well, I'm amazed by this thread too... I learned something today. Mostly that I should just get off my ass during my period
🤣

The woman in the ad is doing a yoga class: and yes, I do find yoga stretches great in the early/heavier days of my period. Later days I'd behave as normal, day or two before is my sluggish time.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 09/02/2020 23:10

I’m always cold at the time of the month so exercising helps me warm up. I exercise daily though unless really unwell.

Qwertyguerty · 09/02/2020 23:10

I don't want to but if it falls on my gym days I still go cos I know it'll help with cramps and get my body lose and mind relaxed

Though I do recognise that I don't suffer too badly on my period. I might skip swimming on my first day cos I'm too lazy to pop in my mooncup and grab a quick sauna instead

Dita73 · 09/02/2020 23:16

I’m sitting here right now with agonising cramps,a pounding head and generally feeling bloody awful and I swear if someone came in and said to me “let’s go for a run” I would punch them in the face!!!

Sonichu · 09/02/2020 23:22

Honestly I have never felt any differently when on my periods; I have never had any real pain or discomfort, it's never affected my moods, I just go about my business as usual except with a tampon in!

(I know that I am very very lucky!!!)

SunshineAngel · 09/02/2020 23:32

I have quite heavy periods, and have to change a super tampon after 3 hours at the most.

I like to go swimming throughout, as it helps with the cramps (and I do get bad cramps).

I change my tampon as soon as I get to the pool, and as soon as I get out of the water. It's never let me down.

Admittedly I wouldn't feel like doing a full gym workout, but swimming, or a nice walk, do normally help.

A brew and chocolate might seem more inviting, but I think getting up and about helps more than wallowing sometimes (but don't get me wrong, I do my fair bit of that, too).

sheepysheep · 09/02/2020 23:46

Don’t feel like it but I do because I know I will feel so much better afterwards

Amortentia · 10/02/2020 00:40

Absolutely not, I don’t get cramps and my period only lasts for 2 days but are so having it’s as if a high pressure tap has been set off. I can barely make it an hour without needing to change my tampon and towel. Unsurprisingly, I have problems with anaemia and spend those two days feeling light headed and freezing cold. I can just about manage shuffling from the sofa to the bathroom, roll on menopause.

ragged · 10/02/2020 00:56

My periods aren't bad in any way (nowadays).
Exercise is such a part of my lifestyle that period days aren't any different.
I get bad insomnia the 36 hrs or so b4 my period starts; the sleep deprivation is harder to cope with than anything else.
