C'mon, who REALLY feels like exercising when they have their period?

Not really a TAAT but...

After looking at the #thisgirlcan ad with the tampon string hanging out.... how many people feel like exercising when they have their period? Not when its tailing off, but when it's full flow. I don't- I just want to sit around in loose, warm clothes and drink tea.
YABU= I totally feel like exercising during my period
YANBU= Nope, don't feel like exercising

The BEST thing to do when you have your period, cramps and / or just feeling awful. (I was told exercise releases endorphin)
It’s not easy to start but it’s always make me feel better ( not swimming obviously, but a gentle cardio start than a full blown HIIT is the best help for tummy aches)
I would recommend anyone who has heavy and painful periods to start a gentle workout.
It certainly works for me ☺️

ChasingRainbows19 · 09/02/2020 21:35

I'm lucky enough not to get horrendous periods most of the time. I can exercise and to be honest it does help with the cramps and aches I do get.

BuddhaAtSea · 09/02/2020 21:36

I actually go out of my way to fit in a swimming session on the 1st-2nd day of my period. It help enormously with bloating and the rest.
Seriously, the best thing you can do when you come on is to exercise.

Sparklesocks · 09/02/2020 21:36

The whole point of the ad is that women are individuals and want to exercise in their own way. So some will like to exercise on their period, and others won’t.

Branleuse · 09/02/2020 21:37

I do some of my best workouts the first couple of days of my period. I feel rubbish for the week running up to it, but when it arrives, I feel fine again and get my energy back

BabbleBee · 09/02/2020 21:38

I have horrendous periods, I don’t feel like exercising but it helps SO much with the pain... even if I have to remind myself it does and talk myself into going for a run.

Fuckitwhynot · 09/02/2020 21:41

Not me, bloated and exhausted usually got the shits with it or feel sick. Just want to lay in bed and die.

Wifeofbikerviking · 09/02/2020 21:42

Ì do the exact same amount of exersize a day on my period as I do off it.

I just dont wear tight clothes as i dislike tampons. Only use them for swimming.

ChipsAreLife · 09/02/2020 21:44

I don't mind it and have heavy periods. I find the week before harder as I have no energy!

SinglePringle · 09/02/2020 21:45

Doesn’t stop me. I like exercising and it makes my period easier.

This. YABU.

Luxembourgmama · 09/02/2020 21:46

I don't feel like it but when I do it helps a lot.

Deelish75 · 09/02/2020 21:46

Luckily I don’t suffer with cramps so don’t feel the need to exercise for that reason. My main exercise is swimming and I do swim on my period but it will be either 1st and 4/5/6th days. My periods are heavy (I take tranexamic acid) and they do wipe me out on the 2nd and 3rd day so I don’t feel like exercise, feel too knackered.

LaneBoy · 09/02/2020 21:47

I only do now that I use a cup, but still not on the heaviest days

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/02/2020 21:48

I don't feel like it but I do it.

CodenameVillanelle · 09/02/2020 21:48

I don't feel like exercising but I do it anyway. That's the point of the ad I think.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/02/2020 21:48

Yabu. Doesn't make any difference to me, never has.

Tellingitlikeitisnt · 09/02/2020 21:50

I’m always a bit more sluggish When I exercise pre period but once it starts I get my mojo back and I find it eases the pain hugely. Cramps are so much worse if I don’t run or exercise in some way.

I am a very regular (daily) exercise though so it takes a lot of put me off. But being on my period is not one of those things

evilharpy · 09/02/2020 21:50

On day 1 I get horrible backache, diarrhoea, flooding, evil cramps and painful lady parts. Exercise does not make it feel better. So YANBU.

I did a spin class this weekend on the morning of day 2 though. It's just the first day that's so awful.

Dragonglass · 09/02/2020 21:51

I feel bloated and have cramps but find that running helps. Besides when I have a race booked I can't decide that I don't feel like it. I even once got a PB at a 10k race on the first day of my period.

MrsJBaptiste · 09/02/2020 21:55

I feel no different when I have my period so yep, I'll still be in the gym!

BrusselPout · 09/02/2020 21:56

I can barely move for the first couple of days of my period, and feel like I am going to pass out and/or vomit every time a wave of pain hits - I can just about function enough to go to work, there is 0% chance that I am going anywhere but home or doing anything but a bath and bed/sofa with a hot water bottle! I wish I could Envy (and yes that is totally envy!)

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 09/02/2020 22:01

Not me. But if I do exercise the first two days, they're much, much shorter.

ThunderGarlic · 09/02/2020 22:02

I do the same with or without period, mainly lots of running and yoga.

To be fair my periods are light, last three days and I don't get period pains. Once I've put my mooncup in, I can forget about it for the day. If I bled heavily and painfully for a week every month I might feel very differently...

eurochick · 09/02/2020 22:04

I'm amazed by this thread. I've always been a regular exerciser but the first two days of my period are completely out. I used to think the PE teachers at school were insane for suggesting exercise would help - it feels like someone has stuck a knife in my abdomen and is twisting it slowly. Bloody netball is the last thing I feel like doing! But apparently it does help some. Who knew?

And in contrast to another poster I get a huge burst of energy just before my period and a strong desire to exercise. I am absolutely exhausted once my period arrives though.
