Didn't pay the bill

ffsimstupid · 09/02/2020 09:12

Stupidly went out with a bunch of 'friends' last night for drinks and food. They decided they weren't going to pay because they 'get away with it all the time' and essentially we're going to leave me with the bill because I was protesting. Long story short ended up follow them out ( I know so stupid). I'm the goody two shoes of the group because of my guilty conscience and as I suspect this morning I feel awful. I really want to ring the restaurant and let them know the situation and pay when they open but I'm scared this is the wrong thing to do and can land me in big trouble.

Please try not to flame me I know full well I was in the wrong and I want to fix this, please advise me what you would do.

OP posts:
Yankeeaddict · 10/02/2020 13:04

@FamilyOfAliens yes. £8.46 to be precise !

rainbowunicorn · 10/02/2020 13:20

@FamilyOfAliens it really isn't at all unusual for managers / supervisors to only be paid pennies more than the staff they are managing in this type of industry. The same is true for a lot of care work, call centre work and other low paid roles.

Cyberlibre · 10/02/2020 13:22

I hope you're ok OP?
So awful of your friends to have that mentality and I'm glad you did the right thing. Please come back to update us.

ButtonMoonLoon · 10/02/2020 13:52

Does anyone else find it odd that the OP hasn’t come back to update?
Was this thread even for real?

FilledSoda · 10/02/2020 13:52

Well at least you did the right thing , if somewhat belatedly.
Ditch those ' friends' though , they have no morals and will drag you down to their level
Are you all very young ?
I just can't picture a group of adults doing this .
Obviously I don't move in those circles

ProfessorSlocombe · 10/02/2020 13:57

Does anyone else find it odd that the OP hasn’t come back to update?

There's a song by Howard Jones : "Don't try to live your life on AIBU" ...

Was this thread even for real?

Why would you doubt it ? The entire recorded history of humanity is full of clear examples of entitled scummy behaviour. It's hardly like the OP was claiming a virgin birth. (Mycroft voice balance of probabilities, Brother mine ... )

JingsMahBucket · 10/02/2020 14:49

I’m just going to say... this thread is also a prime example of why some us insist on having separate checks individually instead of just all clubbing in together at the end of the night. Besides resenting having to subsidize the hard drinkers and lobster eaters, we also want to be able to pay our bills and leave just in case or to avoid drama.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/02/2020 16:04

Fair enough. I wouldn’t do that job for £8.46 an hour when I could do waitressing for the same wage tbh.

Even still, covering the company’s losses from waiting staff wages stinks.

KatherineJaneway · 10/02/2020 17:38

@posterffsimstupid

So did you pay it?

WTFdidwedo · 10/02/2020 19:09

The OP posted at the end of page 8 to say she paid, why do people keep asking why she hasn't updated!

saraclara · 10/02/2020 19:15

Don't think you're wonderful because you paid your bill

Where has the OP even suggested or given the impression that she thinks she's wonderful? She's actually given the opposite impression. She's ashamed and horrified that she let herself be carried along by her friends.

seven201 · 10/02/2020 19:29

Well done for doing the right thing now. I still remember when I was about 8 and stole an extra 1p sweet, I felt so bad I overpaid the next time! We all do very stupid things at times.

Cyberlibre · 10/02/2020 19:34

WTF she didn't say she paid. She said she called up and they asked her to come in to pay. People just want an update based on what they said when she went in.

JingsMahBucket · 10/02/2020 20:32

@Cyberlibre @KatherineJaneway the OP doesn’t owe anybody an update. She is perfectly within her rights to walk away from a thread especially if posters keep haranguing her.

KatherineJaneway · 10/02/2020 21:41

@JingsMahBucket

Hello OP GrinWink

JingsMahBucket · 11/02/2020 02:12

@KatherineJaneway why do people say this? I’m not the OP.

TreeTopTim · 11/02/2020 02:41

Bit strange that the place wanted her to go in rather than pay over the phone. Was it incase she gave false card details. Or maybe OP has been arrested for theft because this is what she and her friends did. They stole.

Kirkman · 11/02/2020 05:19

The police done arrest people for leaving restaurants. As a previous resturant owner, I have experience.

the OP doesn’t owe anybody an update. She is perfectly within her rights to walk away from a thread especially if posters keep haranguing her.

Of course she is. And people are entitled to ask for an update.

Its mumsnet. A website. If she doesnt want to respond, she just doesnt respond and hides the thread. Job done.

Kirkman · 11/02/2020 05:19

The police 'don't'.

GinDaddy · 11/02/2020 05:22

@Kirkman

Or maybe, just maybe, people STOP haranguing OPs for updates...

...and then they feel included in their own thread again, and so are more likely to do the thing you actually want them to do and update us all?

Seriously, there are people on here I'm very glad I don't meet in real life, I'd get a headache

Kirkman · 11/02/2020 05:27

Or maybe, just maybe, people STOP haranguing OPs for updates...

Give over. op can respond or not. She can easily ignore people.

If people here give you a headache, log off and dont get so invested.

People are entitled to ask. OP is entitled to ignore and not update.

NoSauce · 11/02/2020 07:24

Grin funny that.
