AIBU to be angry about the speed and noise of cars?

I live in a tiny village. Little bigger than a hamlet.

Our cottages are on a little lane about 60 yards long. This lane leads to a dead end.

There is a nursery at the top of the lane. There are also houses at the end of the lane.

Our lane is about a car width wide and our cottages step into this lane. The lane is full of blind spots. You can’t see the top of the lane or the bottom so it is wise to drive slowly. The lane is used by people walking, horses etc.

There’s a steady stream of cars whizzing up and down the lane all day. The speed at which these vehicles travel is driving me mad. I am starting to feel intense anger every time a car goes past at what I think is too fast for the conditions in which it is travelling. It bothers me, a lot.

Not only that but it’s cars speeding in general. Cars whizzing around supermarkets. Driving too fast in general really.

It’s starting to make me intensely angry. Angry because it puts me and my small children in danger. It’s making me angry that other people don’t care about the general public’s welfare.

I know it’s not normal to feel this intense anger. We are absolutely considering moving to somewhere that doesn’t have through traffic. It’s an option.

My question is, AIBU to let this bother me so much? How do I control this anger? How do I let it go?

Thank you

I think you’d care less if you felt you’d really tried to get some action rather than let the parish council roll over. What powers to parish councils have? Do Borough or County Councils have more teeth. What about your MP.

Community speed watch in our area have a speed gun, they use it to see if vehicles are actually speeding and then forward this information to police - who are supposed to write letters to offending drivers

If there are many speeding then perhaps this would give weight to your argument for traffic calming, though I’m doubtful on the CC highways spending money

Thus my suggestion of an old car parked to slow down drivers as your own traffic calming

Yes! Community speed watch! Go full archers on them! But be wary of turning into Linda Snell!!!

YABU when you say that the nursery means that there is a steady stream of cars all day, every day, as you’re so obviously exaggerating because you’re annoyed. Most nurseries aren’t every big. How many children attend this nursery?! 1000?! I’d expect there to be traffic at drop off time, lunchtime and pick up time. Not all day every day.

But I have sympathy about people driving with unnecessary speed, that’s really antisocial and annoying.

I really wish I was exaggerating.

The nursery cars aren’t the only vehicles passing through during the day.
