Am I the rude one?

Would really love to know if I was the one?

Was at a playground with my DS. There were lots of building blocks for the kids to use. Two kids used all the blocks to build a tower (it took them awhile and they didn't want any other kids help) fair enough my DS played with other things for 20 min waiting for the kids to finish.
The boys ran away and I assumed they went home/else where so I told DS to run and slam into the blocks (foam) so we can start building something again.
Well when that happened I heard a scream and I turned around and the mother of the boys was yelling "how could you do this?" I said I am so sorry I thought the boys have finished and left. She said I should be apologising to her children.
I just turned back and loudly said to my DS to start playing as it's his turn now and we should all share the blocks.
I know it's a first world problem but still bugging me. Was I in the wrong? Should I have not encouraged DS to knock it all down?

she was 100% in the wrong
Don't give it second thought.
she sounds a bit mental

katewhinesalot · 08/02/2020 10:59

You are indeed correct to act as you did.

katewhinesalot · 08/02/2020 11:00

In fact you wouldn't have been totally wrong to insist they shared the blocks in the first place.

ippdipdo · 08/02/2020 11:01

She's being too precious, it's a foam tower and they had stopped playing with it. Ignore her.

Hahaha88 · 08/02/2020 11:05

The mother screamed? Or one of the kids?

firawla · 08/02/2020 11:22

You’re fine, the other mum is way ott

BlueSuffragette · 08/02/2020 11:26

The other mum was wrong. You did nothing wrong.

WhatsTheLatest · 08/02/2020 11:27

The woman screamed?? If you see her another time ask her if she's been banned from any religious places

Dontdisturbmenow · 08/02/2020 11:37

Really depends on the scenario. If they had gone to their mum to ask her to take a picture of the tower, then yes, you were too quick to break it and should have said sorry.

If however you looked all around, didn't see the kids for 5 minutes, then you were not unreasonable.

By the reaction of the mum though, I would have thought the first scenario more likely.

Pipandmum · 08/02/2020 11:39

It's a public playground. You leave a thing it's now up for grabs. She was being over the top.

sleepyhead · 08/02/2020 11:40

What pp said. If you immediately told your ds to slam into it (really?!) then it's a shame that the boys didn't get a chance to show their mum.

BrutusMcDogface · 08/02/2020 11:40

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

dustibooks · 08/02/2020 11:43

Perhaps the mum thought you were encouraging your ds to enjoy destroying other people's hard work.

MoonlightMistletoe · 08/02/2020 11:46

The other person needs to get over herself. You was not in the wrong.

smotheroffive · 08/02/2020 11:46

You were in a public playground and a foam tower was alone and simply begging to be knocked down by a fun-loving kid, where's the problem?!

Two kids were building it, two kids ran off and left it. Once its built there's no fun to be had with it than knocking it down is there.

Silly and ott for the other to scream over a foam tower. They should have stayed by it, they'll learn. They had already taken the foam blocks for their sole use for considerable time. Its a public place. I recommend the other buy her kid some then they can stand and look at it all day every day, just standing there

SmileEachDay · 08/02/2020 11:50

You must really hate Jenga.

BottleOfJameson · 08/02/2020 11:51

100% her BU. Blocks at these places are always a bit of a minefield with older kids wanting to use all the blocks to build something impressive and younger kids wanting to bash things down. I would have done exactly as you did - stop my kid from bashing their tower down but let him play once they were done. Now my DC's are older I let them have a turn of building something but make it clear they have a limited time to build then it's someone else's turn and they're creation will be knocked down (when they were 4-5 and likely to get upset I would take a photo of what they built then have them bash it down themselves).

PonyPals · 09/02/2020 01:56

Just to answer some questions:

The kids were around 10years old. They went to have their lunch / picnic.
They did show off their master peace up their mum prior to leaving.

Yes, I did encourage my toddler to knock the tower down. It looked like such fun, I should have joined in!

The mother screamed not the kids. She seemed like the type to scream at the Sistine chapel 💒

You were in the wrong. You knew it -- that's why you said, "I'm so sorry, I thought the boys had finished and left." They weren't finished. You did something by mistake that was upsetting. Instead of taking responsibility for what you did, you turned your back on the other mother and then used your own child to tell her off by saying loudly, "Now go play with the blocks that should have been shared in the first place." Again rude!

Apologizing is hard but it's the grease society needs to keep turning. Would it have been so hard to apologize directly to those boys? BTW, I don't think the other mother sounds rational but that doesn't excuse your behavior.

NotALurker2 · 09/02/2020 02:38

Just want to add that once one of my DS had a friend over, and the friend knocked the head off of a snowman in our neighbor's yard. The neighbor dad actually came over to discuss it with me. It still makes me laugh thinking about it.

SmallChickBilly · 09/02/2020 02:42

Did the boys come over and complain about the tower, or just the mum?

Strokethefurrywall · 09/02/2020 02:49

Massive massive dick head - her, not you.

drinkygin · 09/02/2020 02:58

@NotALurker2 you sound absolutely bonkers and you’re 100% wrong.

Op of course you weren’t on the wrong- other mum sounds nuts (screaming?!) and her kids are too old to be upset about a toddler knocked her blocks over.

Jossina · 09/02/2020 03:07

You were totally in the right. They were ten FFS, they'd finished their tower. I feel bad for them if that's what their mother is teaching them.

NotALurker2 · 09/02/2020 03:07

@drinkygin

Who cares if they're too old to be upset? The fact is, they were upset. When you upset someone, you apologize. It's really not that hard to do.
