Phil Schofield coming out as gay...

Is anyone else really shocked - I had no idea whatsoever, not that I should have I don't know the man personally or anything.
It must have been so hard for him and his family and I take my hat off to them all as from the piece he has written it sounds like they are handling it like mature adults, a lot of tears and heartache but also a lot of love and support.

I can only think he was going to be outed so took control by announcing it himself.

JolieOBrien · 07/02/2020 10:21

Years ago when he was in the broom cupboard I thought he was gay but then when he got married I thought I must have been mistaken. I think it was his manner that made me think he was gay.

PineappleDanish · 07/02/2020 10:22

I couldn't give two stuffs about Phillip and his sexuality. Don't care. His business, no big deal.

But I do feel dreadfully sorry for his wife who has given up 30 years to a fraud. All the "brave" comments to Phillip must make her so cross. She's the one who's had her life ripped apart by all this. I hope she takes him to the cleaners in their divorce. #TeamSteph

x2boys · 07/02/2020 10:24

I don't think it's the fact he's gay that ,s shocking ,more the fact he's been married to a women for so long ,it must be heart breaking for her if she had no idea

CakeandCustard28 · 07/02/2020 10:24

I feel sorry he felt like he had to go on TV and announce this. It’s not exactly going to change who he is. It’s nice his family are so supportive though.

ShayAndBlueSeeker · 07/02/2020 10:26

They talked about possible future relationships on This Morning. HE’S STILL MARRIED!!!

ncfornow89 · 07/02/2020 10:26

Also #teamsteph

JunkshopLil · 07/02/2020 10:27

Hear Hear Pineapple

Enough of the 'brave' Phillip. He's been lying for decades and it seems hugely suspicious to me that he's done this now when his star is failing and rumours about his attitude and personality are rife.

Very easy to be 'brave' when you're loaded, a pampered TV star who can use national TV as your own personal platform.

It's his wife who has my sympathy.

Kit19 · 07/02/2020 10:27

I had always assumed he was gay and had no idea he was married - I’m so not upset with things

Yes my thoughts primarily with his wife. He’ll get all the plaudits for being brave while she’s expected to smile supportively & be happy for him

Kit19 · 07/02/2020 10:27

Up with not upset!

Hyrana · 07/02/2020 10:27

I didn't realise he had a wife, I always thought he was gay. Poor him for not being able to come out and even more poor his wife!
He will be lauded as a Hero and his wife will not.

Pumperthepumper · 07/02/2020 10:27

I agree with Lou that’s such a well articulated way to describe how I feel. I feel really sorry for his wife too, that’s a long time to be married to someone with a secret. I’d find it very hard to be supportive, I think, so good on her.

EdinaMonsoon · 07/02/2020 10:30

@PineappleDanish - totally agree. Across twitter this morning it's one message of support to "Brave Phil" after another. I think it's great that he is being met with a positive response and I can imagine it has been a very tough thing for him to come to terms with - on many levels, for many reasons. However, I can't help but wonder how his wife must be feeling. Obviously, she has the support of her family and that's what really counts (as opposed to random strangers/the public) but, her life being ripped apart being seen as a cause for celebration? I don't think that's fair, kind or acceptable and should be acknowledged across the commentary, without any disrespect to either party involved.

tenlittlecygnets · 07/02/2020 10:30

and Steph's entire families have stunned me with their love, instant acceptance and support.

Yeah, right. Instant acceptance, my arse.

I hope Steph and their dauughters are getting the support they need.

PineappleDanish · 07/02/2020 10:30

To be fair we have no idea what has been going on in their marriage, they may have been living separate lives for decades. But even so, it's still awful for her to see the father of her kids weeping and spilling his guts all over national TV while she just has to sit at home and pretend she's cool with it all.

I hope she has good, supportive people around her.

The80sweregreat · 07/02/2020 10:31

A very close friend of mine was married for 17 years when her husband announced that he wanted to become a woman. Not quite the same thing , but she has taken years to get over it all , plus a messy divorce and all kinds of upheaval for her children. An bombshell like this can cause untold damage to a family. I'm not suggesting that Phil's wife will be the same at all and might even cope much better than my friend did , ( or may have even known about it etc etc) but it must hurt so much and take a while to come to terms with as you must feel you've been living a lie for so long.
I feel for her and his children as they must have so many mixed emotions now it's common knowledge etc.
It's sad he had to hide it but I guess that the press will be after any stories and won't let it go.

Happygirl79 · 07/02/2020 10:31

I do hope his wife has always known and not just found out now.

EmeraldShamrock · 07/02/2020 10:33

Awh bless life must have been very hard trying to keep it hidden. I hope tabloid newspapers are sympathetic.
His poor wife bloody heck, I guess it can happen to any of us. I can't say I wouldn't be angry in her shoes.

Rainbowx · 07/02/2020 10:35

Not shocked at all, fake as ever watched him come out on this morning today with holly he said not being forced but I reckon he done it due to all the press going on about him and the this morning lot! I hope his wife and daughters get all the support.

girlie123 · 07/02/2020 10:35

In the nicest possible way I do think he has been brave, equally I think his family are being brave also.
He is finally being honest. Being honest often comes with a piece tag, whatever that may be. It may well be an open secret he was gay, but to actually come out and say it knowing what this will do to his family is very brave and it is clear he is doing this with his family's support.
I would hazard a guess that behind the scenes there has been lots of tears, shouting, anger and disbelief.
I feel desperately sorry for his wife and children and the extended family.

Being honest after so many years of hiding who you are is, in my eyes, brave x

Waspnest · 07/02/2020 10:36

Yes definitely #teamsteph. I had no idea he was gay (don't keep up with all the PS shenanigans) but it pisses me off no end when people do what he has now done, saying the family are being supportive etc, it sounds like they're saying their behaviour isn't that bad because their family are ok with it. I hope Steph takes him to the cleaners.

HavelockVetinari · 07/02/2020 10:36

His poor wife, how awful to discover your marriage was built on a lie Sad

I'm sure it was very tough for him, but it's much worse for her and his children.

CoffeeCoinneseur · 07/02/2020 10:36

This. I bet his wife is having to be a whine lot braver than he is right now.

CoffeeCoinneseur · 07/02/2020 10:37

*whole lot

cavabiensepasser · 07/02/2020 10:37

I only feel sorry for his wife. Her entire marriage was a lie. She spent however many years with someone who didn't love her. In that time she could have been living her life with someone genuine, but no, he effectively stole her youth from her because, well, male entitlement.
