I went in to pick up 2 Danish noticed someone leaning their hand right in over Danish to pick up something from the back. I am afraid I went into mum mode & pointed to the utensil to pick them up - It makes me cringe especially when you think of the bugs going round...

I always reckon the utensil will be seriously germ ridden anyway

WorraLiberty · 06/02/2020 19:03

YABU to call it 'mum mode'.

YANBU to point out the tongs.

Unshriven · 06/02/2020 19:03

But they were only picking up the one they were buying.

I never use the utensils.

People always use them for pizza, then buns, then croissants etc.

Who wants cheese flavoured cinnamon buns?

mumwon · 06/02/2020 19:05

I didn't actually point to be truthful I said they should use them - the point was they were leaning over all the others right to the back & their sleeve might have touched the ones in the front

Haggisfish · 06/02/2020 19:06

Crikey. I lean over and pick mine out too.

Waspnest · 06/02/2020 19:07

I never use the tongs because I only get stuff like the low GI rolls or bread which don't fit in the tongs anyway. Provided people only touch ones they're going to take and don't put anything back does it really matter?

bridgetreilly · 06/02/2020 19:07

I think you should basically assume that all food you eat has been touched by multiple people. And it's fine.

Unshriven · 06/02/2020 19:07

Worse things than sleeves will have touched the ones in front.

MinkowskisButterfly · 06/02/2020 19:07

Hands would be better than the fly I saw flying around and landing on the pastries at our local Lidl. Well maybe. Actually, no hands are just as grim. 🤮

speakout · 06/02/2020 19:09

I don;t use hte utensils in Lidl either.

HeidiHoNeighbour · 06/02/2020 19:11

YABU buying them in the first place.

They’ve been coughed on, sneezed on, poked by kids and adults who “feel” the one the want.
Then there are the flies...

Elouera · 06/02/2020 19:13

Last week at Lidl a man knocked a breadroll onto the floor, picked it up, and put it in the middle of the breadroll stack! I pointed out how filthy it was putting it back from the floor and would he eat in? He didnt seem to care or even understand!

speakout · 06/02/2020 19:20

Then there are the flies...

Flies???? Am I missing something?

Cocobean30 · 06/02/2020 19:27

I’ve seen people touch all the cookies to find one they want in lidl Angry so now I don’t buy anything from the fresh bakery section Sad

PumpkinP · 06/02/2020 19:27

I saw a big green bottle fly on a Lidl’s doughnut once. Not eaten from that section since. Also witnessed a child dropping a cake and a man telling her to “put it back because no ones noticed” Confused

DoubleFunMum · 06/02/2020 19:28

The last time I was in Lidl I declined to use the tongs. They looked manky, and it was 10am so I'm guessing it was yesterday's muck. Bleugh! I used my own hands but made sure I only touched the things I then purchased. So... yabu. And I'd have told you so if you'd pointed out the tongs to me. I think you are lucky you didn't get an earful tbh!

maddiemookins16mum · 06/02/2020 19:29

There would have been more germs on the trolley or basket handles.

FredaFrogspawn · 06/02/2020 19:30

I use a bag inside out, grab fruit or baked goods with my hand through the bag, which also covers my sleeves. Then pull the bag back the right way over the food.

Bluetrews25 · 06/02/2020 19:38

Good idea, Freda, like picking up after the dog!

Bihye · 06/02/2020 19:39

There would have been more germs on the trolley or basket handles.

This!

Furrydogmum · 06/02/2020 19:42

I don't buy from the fresh range at Lidl (or anywhere else) because the other shoppers seem incapable of coughing or sneezing anywhere other than over the food 😷

Cyberlibre · 06/02/2020 19:42

Nut allergy here. I use hands but only pick up what I need. It isn't difficult to understand about allergies is it?

bobstersmum · 06/02/2020 19:43

I think if this worries you then you need to buy pre packaged ones.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 06/02/2020 19:44

DM watched a small child suck various pick n mix sweets then return them to their display boxes last week in Tesco. A clever loop hole to get the treat but avoid a shoplifting conviction. Child's DM pretended not to have noticed any of this Grin

dudsville · 06/02/2020 19:45

I think it's gross, I always hope that as I'm one of the first in my local shop perhaps there's not been time to cough, splutter and touch my croissants!
