To not have anyone to sign passport?

PumpkinP · 05/02/2020 23:46

I am having trouble with thinking who can sign for me and my children’s passports. I am an introvert and have no friends, family limited, but obviously can’t sign, not friends with the neighbours. What can I do? I’m not working atm either so no manager etc

They have to have known you personally for 7 years do your child's teacher wouldn't be suitable, unless you know them in person if one child had been in nursery or reception then two years later the teacher can say they have known them (as in known who they are) for two years. If the teacher has taught an older sibling two years ago or more thus will also apply. I have signed many passports like this but always refused if I hadn't known them li g enough.

Frownette · 06/02/2020 12:00

Someone said upthread that their passports were signed by a SAHM.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/02/2020 12:00

*long enough

CorianderLord · 06/02/2020 12:02

I don't think it's elitist I think it's weird that OP doesn't know any humans other than family or her kids school. Doesn't even have a hairdresser, that's not an introvert it's a recluse.

DP and I can both sign them, as can my best friend, my dad, sister, many colleagues and old school friends.

@agonyaunty I actually do know a few pilots, they do exist.

I'm from a working class Northern family...

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/02/2020 12:02

Someone said upthread that their passports were signed by a SAHM. I don't think that would have been legal unless she had previously been in a professional job. I am retired but can still sign passports.

Charlie97 · 06/02/2020 12:04

@PumpkinP who signed the last lot? If you were self employed did you have an accountant?

PumpkinP · 06/02/2020 12:07

I have been a carer now for almost 10 years. I didn’t say I don’t speak to any single person, once again. But it’s pointless me posting my personal life to get ripped to shreds over it. So the teacher has to know me for 7 years? I thought it was 2?

The professional person is member of a professional body, and would have had their identity checked when that took place. So by signing the person’s application form, they are providing a link which can be double-checked.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/02/2020 12:11

It is 2 years.

Jomarchsburntskirt · 06/02/2020 12:12

@lastqueenofscotland Police are not supposed to sign passports.

LIZS · 06/02/2020 12:14

Are you employed via an agency, does your sister have any friends/colleagues who have known you 2+ years

CorianderLord · 06/02/2020 12:15

Although I suppose it used to be easier when everyone was part of a church

crustycrab · 06/02/2020 12:17

Ridiculous advice on here. Yes OP, it's 2 years. A police officer can sign a passport. They all do need a counter signature.

Jasper your kids application will be returned if you've sent it without one!

What do your sisters friends husbands/partners do OP?

wonkylegs · 06/02/2020 12:21

It's 2 years - so sounds like the school would be your best bet
I'm an architect & I've signed for neighbours, neighbours children (grown up and moved but I still know them), other parents at school, friends and colleagues

Knittingnanny · 06/02/2020 12:23

I’ve signed loads in my 40 years as a teacher, never been called by passport office. Honestly, just ask at school at the end of the day, get the page and photos and a pen ready and it’s a 2 minute job.

Blackbear19 · 06/02/2020 12:24

Do they use facial recognition technology between last passport photo and new passport photos?

Most probably for adults but children's faces grow and change shape. The key points on an adult face don't change, ie eyes and nose regardless of weight gain.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/02/2020 12:27

A teacher colleague of mine had a call from the passport office at school. It does happen.

coconuttelegraph · 06/02/2020 12:34

I literally just done my son's a week ago, online, nobody had to sign

Then it obviously wasn't a first passport or one with an updated photgraph. The rules are quite simple.

Someone may have got away with getting a person not on the list to sign, they don't phone up for every single application they get but they do phone some, I know someone who was contacted to check they details they'd put as a countersignatory. People will always try to cheat the system but it doesn't mean everyone will get away with it and it isn't the best advice to knowingly send in a fraudulent application.

I think it's right that they make sure applications for passports are valid and correct, why would anyone want it to be easy for criminals to be able to get fake passports?

coconuttelegraph · 06/02/2020 12:36

Honestly, just ask at school at the end of the day, get the page and photos and a pen ready and it’s a 2 minute job

Unless you can somehow find a willing teacher who takes their passport to school with them or memorises the details won't be a 2 minute job.

Not all teachers will have their own passport with them on a normal school day to write in their passport number on the application form. Far better to ask in advance so the teacher can bring their own passport number with them.

hydeandrun · 06/02/2020 12:40

I had mine signed by a friend who does childminding.

I had no luck with teachers. Our headteacher does not allow signing these forms so all teachers I asked refused (and the head herself too).

Yellowbutterfly1 · 06/02/2020 12:40

You still haven’t said who signed your previous passports.
Maybe they can do it again for you.

Charlie97 · 06/02/2020 12:45

Op for the third time, who signed the previous ones?

PumpkinP · 06/02/2020 12:46

Oh no really?! I’m having a feeling my children’s school will say no. They can be difficult at times.

I don’t want to post any more about my life as I think some people are being abit judgey

People who own their own businesses can sign. Hairdresser, window cleaner, childminder, milkman, cafe owner, publican?
