You are probably having a migraine. Pull over for a few minutes and take pain killers if you have any.

thecatsthecats · 04/02/2020 17:53

Sounds like a migraine aura.

Google search that and look at the images/gifs.

smashstore · 04/02/2020 17:53

Migraine?

FebruaryRainandSleet · 04/02/2020 17:54

Migraine, probably. Is it spreading in a crescent from the centre?

battlestargalactica · 04/02/2020 17:54

visual migraine, hopefully will dissipate over an hour or so. then get check out.

Sorry, to add, if it is, they are a precursor to a migraine often - mine typically fade within 20-30m. They grow from a tiny speck into a huge crescent then blur out and fade away as the headache starts.

I hope you're OK - very unnerving the first time it happens, but I now find them a useful warning before the main event.

CinderEmma · 04/02/2020 17:57

That's how my migraines start although I don't always get the headache afterwards. It usually starts in my left eye then moves to the right.

notsohippychick · 04/02/2020 17:57

You need to get that checked. Can be a sign of high pressure in the eyes and you really don’t want that. Don’t mean to worry you I had this and needed it sorting ASAP. It can lead to blindness

startingtoday · 04/02/2020 17:57

Agree some sort of optic migraine. I had one once , didn't last very long but very scary

Dita73 · 04/02/2020 17:58

Take some paracetamol. Chances are your head is going to hurt

Dontstepinthecowpat · 04/02/2020 18:00

Can I just point out that if you’ve all ready spoken to an eye dr why would you take the advice of the mumsnet experts? See a GP or an optician at the very least if a qualified eye dr wants you seen urgently. Why would you risk your sight?

DartmoorChef · 04/02/2020 18:00

I get this occasionally. Like a heart rate monitor going across my eyes, and if I look at a page in a book, there are blanks where the words should be.

It's very unnerving the first couple of times, but now I've found that if I take ibrofofen as soon as it starts it tends to go right again quite quickly.

dressingfortv · 04/02/2020 18:01

Eyes bit wheels, definitely not driving!

Also have loud whooshing noise in my ear which I get sometimes but haven't had for ages

Hopefully passes soon I've got a big meeting important meeting about DS's health issues at school in an hour . And he's home too. Argh worst timing ever.

I've only ever had one migraine. Can these visual things be caused by stress? I've been pulling my hair out today

CushyButtercup · 04/02/2020 18:02

I had this and discovered I have glaucoma. Best to get it checked asap.

dressingfortv · 04/02/2020 18:03

@dontstep I can't psychically get to my doctor today. It's a four hour round trip and then can't see well enough to drive!!

OP posts:
dressingfortv · 04/02/2020 18:05

I'm booked in for tomorrow but ds is off school with impaction issues so the last thing I can do is take him on a four hour car journey Sad

dontgobaconmyheart · 04/02/2020 18:06

Sounds like the start of a migraine. When you say 'my eye doctor's what do you mean? Are you under a consultant at an eye hospital or similar for existing issues? If so take their advice and go in.

If not and you mean you rang the optician, of course they will advise getting it checked, there isn't any way to tell otherwise if it's an eye issue or a migraine. I'd just book an appointment at the optician, they have all the equipment to check for serious eye conditions, a GP doesn't and you may as well rule them out at the very least. Hope it is nothing serious OP.

katkit · 04/02/2020 18:06

Optical migrAine?

dressingfortv · 04/02/2020 18:08

@dontgobaconmyheart sorry i meant optician. They call them eye doctors in the states.

I can't get there until I can actually drive, I live very remotely, no options for taxis etc.

I'm booked in tomorrow morning,

dressingfortv · 04/02/2020 18:09

Yes everything is bright and shiny and leaping around. There's are blank spots like a polo said. Fucks sake it never rains but it pours!

OP posts:
jgjgjgjgjg · 04/02/2020 18:10

When this happened to me it was a detached retina. If you have a detached retina the sooner it is fixed the more chance you have of retaining full vision. If it detaches completely that can be very very serious.

AriadnesFilament · 04/02/2020 18:11

You’ve had advice on here that one cause can lead to blindness, plus you’ve actually spoken to an eye doctor who has said they need to see you urgently. It’s in both eyes.

Yes, it could be a migraine, but you have an eye doctor, so clearly already have eye issues.

Why are you asking an Internet forum instead of trying to find a way of getting there to get it checked? None of us can diagnose you, and given the potential consequences if this is left you would be foolish to leave it when the medical professional - your medical professional - you have spoken to has told to go in urgently.

Weaverspin · 04/02/2020 18:12

Sounds like a migraine aura - also known as a ‘scintillating scotoma’. I get it after too much coffee, and it fades after half an hour or so. For some, a painful migraine follows.

dressingfortv · 04/02/2020 18:14

@BiscuitBarrels because as I've said three times now, including in my original post- I CANT GET THERE. There's nobody to take me. There's no taxis here. I live hours away from the doctor.

I'm booked in for tomorrow when I can hopefully drive.
