Just that really,l was just looked out of the window and all of a sudden there are bright zigzags in front of both wheels.

eye doctor I meant optometrist. Who I see for my contacts etc. I've had no previous issues.

You mean optician? When you said eye doctor, I thought you meant a doctor at the eye unit at your hospital.

eggandonion · 04/02/2020 18:59

I think Maine too, because of the impaction aside. The distances are vast. Take care!

goingoverground · 04/02/2020 18:59

@dressingfortv Is there any medical care available on the island? The whooshing sound doesn't fit with a migraine. Headache, visual disturbances and the whooshing could be a sign of high blood pressure. Is there anywhere you can get it checked? A pharmacy?

You aren't pregnant are you? They could be signs of pre-eclampsia.

PhilCornwall1 · 04/02/2020 19:01

Nobody to drive me, I live on an island unfortunately.

Bloody hell, well that's a pretty good reason for it not being easy to get there.

comingupafterthebreak · 04/02/2020 19:06

Stop the nitpicking with her terminology folks, she's in the USA - they have different names for healthcare professionals over there.

A relative of mine lives in the States, if he said it was going to take 4 hours to drive somewhere, I'd know he was talking about a journey of about 200+ miles.

CustardySergeant · 04/02/2020 19:08

I don't know whether it was a typo, but what did you mean by "eyes bit wheels"?

MoaningMinniee · 04/02/2020 19:09

Hi, when you're fit enough to look at screens again, I get these occasionally too. I now have tablets which I keep in my bag ready which will stop them in about fifteen minutes. Hope you make it to the optometrist tomorrow.

goingoverground · 04/02/2020 19:15

@CustardySergeant I think OP means "eyes not wheels" She was correcting the typo in the OP there are bright zigzags in front of both wheels

Bowerbird5 · 04/02/2020 19:20

The whooshing sound is likely tinnitus and you can get it from stress and the pulse in your ear is another one. I have been under stress and my GP says that is why i am experiencing it. Weird isn't it. I get auras with migraine too.
I hope you got through the meeting. Do get it checked out though. The optician spotted that I had a small bleed behind my eye so the GP has done several tests. Better safe than sorry. Hope you feel better soon.

PlumsGalore · 04/02/2020 19:39

I get these regularly, take two Advil or similar and lie down for half an hour, if it hasn’t gone then you may need further help. I get them probably every two to three months.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 04/02/2020 19:44

We always put our children first but in this case you need to put yourself first, for the sake of your kid. He may have an accident on the way there, but you may end up having a stroke at home when you are alone with him.

OhDeez · 04/02/2020 19:48

I know everyone is saying it's just a migraine, but if it were me, I would be calling an ambulance. I'd be worried about something to do with the brain.

Malbecfan · 04/02/2020 19:48

OP I occasionally get these but no whooshing or headache. It's often a sign I'm dehydrated so I try to drink water and eat something a bit starchy too (crisps/pringles work well even though they are salty). They do pass within around 30 minutes.

Cleebope2 · 04/02/2020 19:55

I got exactly those symptoms once last June in school where I teach. It was scary but went away after 20 minutes and never happened again. I think it was an optical migraine though I didn’t get a headache but I was particularly exhausted that week. I thought it could also be perimenapause related.

Legoandloldolls · 04/02/2020 20:25

With the wooshong noises, if background notice fades in and out, that's high blood pressure.

Thirtyrock39 · 04/02/2020 20:38

A detached retina is a medical emergency. I'm still cross that I didn't insist dh went to a & e when he had all the symptoms on a Saturday (eye casualty was closed) as waiting till the next day caused loss to his sight that was unable to be repaired- go now . If you can't go now and think it could beRetinal tear or detachment you need to lie still as much as possible till it can be treated

dressingfortv · 05/02/2020 00:40

Thanks all. I am indeed in Maine. It was better pretty quickly and I got through ds's meeting thank goodness. Had a headache for a few hours. He got a 504 which basically means he's been statemented as disabled.

I spoke again twice to the eye doctor and they're pretty sure the combination of me looking at bright snow and stress brought on a visual migraine but I'll still go in first thing tomorrow to just check. Will just have to chuck poor ds in an big kid nappy and hope for the best. Explosive incontinence and long car journeys really aren't the one. Sad

Sorry for all my typos, I was having problems focusing properly!

It was bloody alarming, I've never heard of them before, or ever really suffered migraines either. I'm wondering if that's what ds has been having too, he's been diagnosed also with CVS (stomach migraines) since he was a baby and has more recently said things look weird when he's having one.

dressingfortv · 05/02/2020 00:42

The whoosing used to be constant and really bad but had tailed off recently. Has come back recently though. I'd not got it checked out before because we didn't have healthcare but we do now and I have a bloody great list for the doctor!

Oh OP you poor thing. Nothing to add but wishing you the best. How stressful. Good luck with it all

HomerSimpsonSmilingPolitely · 05/02/2020 09:31

You live on your own island ?

For the love of Christmas, please read the OP's posts properly. Jeez.

TossACoinToYourWitcher · 05/02/2020 09:42

Posts like this always brings it home to me just how vast the states are. If I drove for four hours I'd probably pass a dozen hospitals.

I hope you feel better today OP. The first time I had a migraine it was pretty terrifying. Flowers

eggandonion · 05/02/2020 10:41

We spent a semester in Maine, it was beautiful but far from civilisation; we also had a poo issue (that was in a separate state, North Carolina). The town we lived in in Maine had a small university and three hospitals, the only hospitals for many miles. I'm glad the eye thing is being dealt with!

HoldMyLobster · 05/02/2020 11:17

Sometimes you really can't get here from there if you're in Maine :-)

Good luck with the journey today OP. Hopefully the ferries aren't too busy this time of year?
