To be fed up of food?

Does anyone else get like this? I usually meal plan for the week, rotating meals and cooking from stretch most nights, but I'm just fed up of everything. I can hardly even bear to go to the shops, usually battle my way round Aldi. Dh is the same, we just don't know what to eat.

We're ending up just stocking up in essentials like bread, cheese, eggs and eating day to day, so we might just end up having beans on toast or a fish finger sandwich, basically whatever we can bring ourselves to eat.

Really frustrating we usually love food and I'd say we're fairly decent cooks, but we just don't want anything.

I totally get this

I’m so bored of thinking of what to have.

Every bloody day. Even if I meal plan I find that in itself a chore as it’s soooooo booooring.

I wonder if there’s a random recipe generator app thing?

cushioncovers · 02/02/2020 13:10

Try changing supermarkets. New ideas might spring to mind. But yes it is a drag trying to think of something to cook every night. Realises this is a first world problem

BlueChangeling · 02/02/2020 13:13

I get like this. I feel like I'm just having the same dishes over and over again.

I always treat myself to a new cook book to get new ideas and go to a different super market / butchers / farmers market to see if it sparks any new ideas.

WanttogotoParis · 02/02/2020 13:14

Oh I know it's totally a first world problem.

I get this. I spend all day cooking and menu planning. I also do private catering which means going shopping then cooking at clients houses... By the time it's my turn to eat I really can't be bothered most of the time and we grab takeaway or have egg on toast 😂

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 02/02/2020 13:20

Try going on the website below, put in ingredients you like eating and it suggests recipes.

www.supercook.com/#/recipes

Might help to inspire you a bit.

Jessie9323 · 02/02/2020 13:22

I know exactly how you feel! My husband and I are usually so good at planning in advance put for the past few weeks neither of us has really been felt like it. To be honest there's nothing that screams eat me. Not sure if it's because I'm 24 weeks pregnant but I wasn't like this with my last one.

CakeandCustard28 · 02/02/2020 13:24

I get like this. I litteratly rotate twenty different dishes as I never know what to cook.

RaininSummer · 02/02/2020 13:24

I always get a bit like this the month after Christmas so we eat very simply until we get out ooph back. Get lots of healthy basics and eat wraps , fruit , soup , salad and things on toast until inspiration returns.

Sweetbabycheezits · 02/02/2020 13:25

Can you afford something like Gousto or Hello Fresh? We did that for a bit, just to shake up our meals a bit and get out of a rut with our eating. It's a bit pricey, but we would get them delivered for weekends when we'd usually get a takeaway, so really, it saved us a bit of money and we were eating a bit better, as well. Also, it was a perfect amount for 4 of us, so there was no waste at all.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/02/2020 13:27

Totally get it, I'm not a good lover at all. If I could survive without shovelling food in my mouth, I'd be quite a happy person.

For me it's just fuel and I don't get one hint of pleasure from a meal at all.

PhilCornwall1 · 02/02/2020 13:29

Food lover!!!

I'm sure my wife would agree with the way I had it the first time around though!!

Obligatorync · 02/02/2020 13:33

It's the way it has to be sorted MULTIPLE TIMES every single DAY that's so unreasonable.

Orangeblossom78 · 02/02/2020 13:33

Wouldn;t it be lovely to have a cook who could just cook stuff - I hate it too

Was even at the stage of ordering ready meal service for elderly parents and thinking oh, I could do this too. It is so repetative

Maybe those dinner kits like Gousto could be an idea but I can't be bothered with the hassle of them either

Sux2buthen · 02/02/2020 13:34

TurtleTop · 02/02/2020 13:41

Nope. I've definitely never experienced anything like this. Or that's what my scale would lead you to believe

Em308 · 02/02/2020 13:48

Everyone must go through this lack of meal inspiration at some point. Why don't we each post a couple of meal ideas, maybe we'll give others some inspiration?

I suggest goulash. And Tuscan bean stew.

mummmy2017 · 02/02/2020 13:49

Going shopping today.
Same old each week.
I hate shopping.

crimsonlake · 02/02/2020 13:56

You are lucky that you have 20 meal ideas to rotate, I can only think of about 7 :)
I have been this way for a long time, hate food shopping, wandering around wondering what to buy and nothing appeals.
I wish food came in tablet form and you could just pop one in your mouth and be done.
I mainly live on my own, so could exist on very little, but still need to food shop which I try to cut down to every couple of weeks.
When my son's are home I find it a bind, but easier in a way as I am shopping for them and what they might like.
Once I get to the till I could gladly leave it all behind...packing , unpacking, putting it away...it drives me crazy.

WanttogotoParis · 02/02/2020 13:58

Lol Phil

I've been to Sainsburys a couple of times just for a change even though it's more expensive, but still no inspiration.

The things we usually eat are spag bol, spaghetti and meatballs, different curries, shepherds pie, prawn/chicken stir fry, roast dinners, various variations of stews and casseroles, chilli con carni, toad in the hole, different pasta dishes, jacket spuds, hunters chicken, fish with something, lasagne, pies. Don't fancy any of it or any variation of any of it!

I'm sure it's just a phase.

I get like this especially about lunch; I need to eat lunch but I can’t be bothered to think about what to have

SedentaryCat · 02/02/2020 14:03

Me too. I used to plan each meal, write a shopping list and stick to it.

Six months ago I stopped, I just couldn't be bothered to do it any more. Two picky DCs haven't helped either.

I used to love to cook and have shelves full of recipe books, but it's back to basics for now.

RhodaCamel · 02/02/2020 14:04

We shop at Aldi or Lidl and I feel exactly the same, just so fed up with food and the whole organising of it all, it completely spoils my appetite tbh, how I’d love for someone else to do it all. I have tried shopping at Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s and have to say there was so much more choice etc BUT it cost double what we normally pay...so back to Lidl 🙁

Mintjulia · 02/02/2020 14:04

Every weekend, me & ds find something to make that we haven’t had before. Look through cookery books or the food pages in the paper.
This weekend is pork fillet cooked with garlic, and green lentils with cherry tomatoes and fresh thyme.

Makes food is a bit more interesting. And ds sometimes cooks. Nice to do together.

Hidingtonothing · 02/02/2020 14:05

God yes! I refuse to take sole responsibility for meal ideas and everyone is expected to contribute, you can literally feel the mood drop in the room when I ask the dreaded question, 'what does everyone fancy for tea?' No solution sorry OP but I definitely feel your pain Smile
