To be fed up of food?

Does anyone else get like this? I usually meal plan for the week, rotating meals and cooking from stretch most nights, but I'm just fed up of everything. I can hardly even bear to go to the shops, usually battle my way round Aldi. Dh is the same, we just don't know what to eat.

We're ending up just stocking up in essentials like bread, cheese, eggs and eating day to day, so we might just end up having beans on toast or a fish finger sandwich, basically whatever we can bring ourselves to eat.

Really frustrating we usually love food and I'd say we're fairly decent cooks, but we just don't want anything.

Totally feel your pain, and I have a fussy dh and a fussy ds so only have about 7-10 home cooked meals to rotate. It gets sooo boring!! I cant wait until ds is a bit older as Im hoping he'll grow out of the fussiness like his older sibling did

ClientQueen · 02/02/2020 14:13

Definitely a phase. I have weeks like that where I open the fridge, go "meh" and eat a bowl of cereal
Even going to the supermarket there's nothing I want

namechangingtime · 02/02/2020 14:13

What about trying one of those food boxes like hello fresh or Gousto. You can change what they've chosen if you want but they pick your meals and send everything so all you have to do is cook. I know it's a pain having to cook when you don't feel like it but it takes away the chore of planning and buying the ingredients?

Oldfail · 02/02/2020 14:14

I get like this.. dh asks what I want for dinner and I can't even be bothered to eat.

One meal I do which is tasty and fun is puff pastry pizza.

Buy ready rolled puff pastry and lay in a tin (I use one of the white metal ones with sides and put plain flour down to prevent sticking)

Stretch a little so you can fold over the edges to give a little wall all the way round.

Smother the base in tomato puree and mixed herbs, I usually do half a tube with a tiny bit of water to loosen it.

Then put what you want, I normally do ham or cooked chicken, raw peppers, onions, mushrooms and grated cheese

Goes in the oven for about 30 -40 mins or until the base is cooked.

Me and dh have half each.

I can make it in the day and leave in the fridge till I am ready to cook it so can put it together when I feel like it. My 2 year old also likes doing it with me cause she can help build the pizza so it keeps her entertained as well.

I tend to batch cook so just close my eyes.. stick my arms in the freezer and there you go. Freezer roulette. But jokes aside I think when the winter is over you have lots of salads and the odd bbq to make it more fun

BigButtons · 02/02/2020 14:15

I hats food shopping.
I’m not hugely interested in food either. I go through phases of hardly eating, don’t get hungry and can’t be bothered.
Some days I’m ravenous all day.

megletthesecond · 02/02/2020 14:18

Yanbu. I'm tired of fussiness, allergies and gluten free stress.
Every so often I break and spend more than I can afford on eating out so I don't have to look at the same four walls of the kitchen and prepare the same food, again.

ShinyGiratina · 02/02/2020 18:27

Totally fed up of it.
Allergies/ intolerances.
Sensory issues.
Incompatible dislikes.
Health guilt.
Busy evenings.
Boredom of spaghetti bolognaise yet again.
Having to go to two supermarkets at least fortnightly because I can't buy bread and milk in the same shop.

Breakfast.
My lunch.
Kids' tea.
Dinner.

And repeat and repeat and repeat...

I used to love cooking when I could just please myself!

TheDarkPassenger · 02/02/2020 18:39

There’s too many meals in the day imo!!

I’m totally like this and recently I’ve taken to just reordering last weeks online trolley, I’m totally fucking sick and bored of cooking

OneHanded · 02/02/2020 18:41

I don’t meal plan because I change my mind and what I fancy up to the last minute (and normally half way through)

Hoohaahoo · 02/02/2020 18:44

Yeah I get like that. I don’t stress over it though, I just eat enough to give me fuel to carry on working and wait for my appetite to come back. Lightly salted pasta is easy enough to fill the hole, or a houmous and salad pitta.

SharpieInThe · 02/02/2020 18:45

"It's the way it has to be sorted MULTIPLE TIMES every single DAY that's so unreasonable."

God, yes @Obligatorync

I made cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner today. Then the clean up. I know I didn't have to, but weekends are when we can all sit and eat together and the kids are all home. Least there's enough dinner left over that lunch tomorrow is sorted! Shame I still have to clean the kitchen 😂

GoddessArtemis · 02/02/2020 18:46

My husband is going away for a whole week that means I don't have to cook anything yipeeeeeeeeeee 😁😁😁

tallpoppies · 02/02/2020 18:51

Yep. Given the choice (and budget) I would have a mixture of eating out, takeaway or sandwiches for the days I can’t be arsed! Used to love cooking but really can’t be arsed these days. I have to cook 5 or 6 nights a week and I’m just so bored by it all

damnthatanxiety · 02/02/2020 19:11

I am oscillating between totally agreeing with you and also feeling dreadful as this is seriously the most first world of first world problems. What are we!!

JosefKeller · 02/02/2020 19:18

You don't have to cook at all. When I can't be bothered, I just get some ham, cheese and saladey bits (tomatoes, cucumber, olives) and done.

You can't go wrong with salads when you are bored, from tabbouleh to Salad Nicoise, the choices are endless. I know many MN posters find the concept hilarious, but in the real world, they are food.

quick-cut turkey with 1 (frozen) veg takes not much time either.
kebabs of chicken with peppers
Fish, lemon and more peppers in the oven...

I couldn't be stuck between pasta and stews all the time, I'd get bored too.

userxx · 02/02/2020 19:32

Yep, I'm lime this too. So can't be arsed making anything let alone clearing it all up. Beans on toast is the way forward.

TeaAndASitDown · 02/02/2020 19:34

I get this! We just got a gousto box with a joe wicks discount code. Really recommend that to shake the menu up and remove the requirement for imagination. It was £14 for four meals with the discount.

lengthenmylutealphase · 02/02/2020 19:51

Just have 7 meals that you rotate weekly. If they're relatively healthy and everyone likes them then it doesn't matter.

We usually have something like the below;

Monday's MIL cooks us dinner
Tuesdays spaghetti bolognese (lots of veg)
Wednesdays macaroni cheese & salad
Thursdays 5 bean chilli & baked potatoes
Fridays chicken curry & rice
Saturdays chicken & chorizo jambalaya
Sunday's steak pie & lots of veg

Other meals we substitute in; mince & potatoes, chilli con carne, chicken & chorizo pasta, sausage with mash & veg

CantstandmLMs · 02/02/2020 19:59

I love food but I felt so like this at the end of last year. I was too tired to come home and think of something to cook too.

Now I'm losing weight I have realised I have to know in advance, it has to be easy and be ready to eat when I get in...so I've basically been eating the same thing most nights in the week. Made a big cottage pie, curry etc and have it every single day. I actually really like it 🙈
Life has got so much easier too.

Maybe try this?

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 02/02/2020 20:01

YANBU but I am riddled with untreated/resolved eating disorders so what do I know.

totallynotchanging · 02/02/2020 20:08

I feel your pain, OP. I thought I had this sussed by watching the batch lady on you tube. But no, the family rejected nearly all the meals cooked. So now I have a freezer full of food I spent ages making but only a few of us eat. And no room for the usual beige things that they will eat. Maybe your household are less fussy though - batch lady is good, no nonsense, get it done motivation. And at least there is some stuff in the freezer I like, even if no one else does!

blondiebrowneyes · 02/02/2020 20:12

Is there just the two of you? We tried out simply cook for a while (they usually have good introductory offers) and that got us out of a rut. All the recipes we had were really tasty but the Goan fish curry was the favourite.
