To stick with Henry the Hoover

He's loud. He's clumsy. He's heavy. He has few redeeming qualities whatsoever tbh. But he's stood by me for years. All my friends are moving on to Sharks and G Tech Air Rams. AIBU to stick with the nice but dim Henry out of loyalty?

Our Henry is about 15 years old and recently spawned a smaller Henry at around the time that we produced a small person. He is great. No overly clever hoovers for us either.

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 01/02/2020 23:32

I have had my Hetty since 2012. Love her. She is still working fine despite often vacuuming up the odd sock, lego and all sorts of haor bobbles. YANBU at all!

GreenTulips · 01/02/2020 23:34

I had a Hetty. I liked that she just followed me round and had some suck in her! Never a problem other than trying to empty the bag.

However I spend the whole time talking to her, although she wasn’t much company.

BeardieWeirdie · 01/02/2020 23:41

I’m 33 and my parents are still using the same Henry they bought when I was a toddler which tells you everything you need to know. Mine is 10 now and still as good as new. The only problem is that I suggested calling bump Henry if it’s a boy to my five-year-old and got an incredulous “like the HOOVER??” back.

Bobleywobley · 01/02/2020 23:43

Get a robot hoover, i was sceptical but it really did change my life. Wish I'd got one years ago. It's like having a maid (sort of).

Whatsnewpussyhat · 01/02/2020 23:43

He's a smug little fucker but he never dies.
Great for when doing renovations/DIY.

My cordless Dyson is a pile of crap that quakes in fear at crisp crumbs.

I want the one that can suck up liquids too. Think its yellow or blue.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/02/2020 23:46

Henry is about 13 and has the red super head. Still good as new, never had a service or new part but I’ve just purchased Charles to help him. Henry’s upstairs and Charles is downstairs 😁

There’s a good reason why professionals use the neumatic vac.

SingingSands · 01/02/2020 23:48

We love our Henry. He's indestructible. 12 years old now and still going. Yes he's a bit heavy on the stairs, but he does a bloody good job on them so I can cope! He sucks up everything from toast crumbs to plaster rubble!

@BeardieWeirdie I hope my Henry lasts as long as your parent's!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/02/2020 23:48

Whatsnew that’s Charles, he’s blue 😀

c0ffeeandcake · 01/02/2020 23:49

Henry is your steady Eddie, he will always be there for you. Pick you up when you fall and never judge you. We love him

BeardieWeirdie · 01/02/2020 23:50

What’s the red super head?

kingkuta · 01/02/2020 23:50

I lugged a Henry around for years. Bought a cordless Shark over the black Friday sales and now wonder what the fuck took me so long. So much easier.
Henry will be going on Ebay

MrsToothyBitch · 01/02/2020 23:52

YABU I hate Henry, I love my second hand g-tech (inherited when DM upgraded). I gave the Henry at my old job (worked in retail, we did our own cleaning) the finger on the last day, I hated lugging him about so much, always chasing after me and whacking my ankles, back breaking little bastard. He looks sweet though.

Thesearmsofmine · 01/02/2020 23:53

I have a Hetty and she is fab, great suck and has lasted 8 years so far. In that time my parents have gone through 3 different hoovers.

SwedishEdith · 01/02/2020 23:53

I wanted a Henry but he felt very heavy when I picked him up. I got a bottom of the range Miele. It's great - light and really powerful.

TheMistressQuickly · 01/02/2020 23:54

Love my hetty but now it’s my shark. All. The. Way.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/02/2020 23:54

The red head has turbo suction.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 01/02/2020 23:56

I love my Henry. He’s a shiny new cordless one and I use him for work but want a corded one for home. I’m a cleaner and have used all sorts over the years and Henry is by far my favourite. I also own a £££ Miele and it’s a heap of shite in comparison. I hate the thing. It’s currently my house hoover and I loathe hoovering with it. I love getting Henry out at work. He just follows me everywhere effortlessly. Sometimes he is drunk and falls over though Grin

EskiSummerleaze · 01/02/2020 23:57

Henry is your steady Eddie, he will always be there for you. Pick you up when you fall and never judge you. We love him
Amazing!Grin
Henry is exactly that, I donated ours to my sister, he kept kicking my ankles and I fell in love with a Miele. But Miele died after a few years and now I've got a comparatively good shark. Jury's out on him

PorpentinaScamander · 01/02/2020 23:59

I love my Hetty shes the daughter I never had
She does appear to have a drink problem though Grin

breatheinskipthegym · 02/02/2020 00:02

I have an Air Ram and a Henry. Air Ram does a passable but imperfect job and wouldn’t cut it as the only hoover. It’s also no use for tight spaces, doesn’t butt up flush with skirting boards so corners stay dirty, or stairs. I really like it for daily upkeep without the heft of Henry, but I still see a scattering of dirt. Henry comes out once a week and does a ‘proper’ clean.

anothernamejeeves · 02/02/2020 00:03

We borrowed a gtech air ram and I think it is most inferior to Henry
Any views on the shark lift away?

Bookoo · 02/02/2020 00:07

Hetty died this week, RIP. She drove me nuts, so heavy & clumsy and a right pain on the stairs.

Bought a shiny new shark lift away and it’s true love. She’s everything I dreamed of and more.

Waveysnail · 02/02/2020 00:09

My dad used to use his henry to clean out fire grate and it's still going strong. Can suck up virtually anything- best hoover ever

Userengage · 02/02/2020 00:10

I love my Henry with his stupid face though he gets on my tits when he gets stuck behind the door frame when I go around a corner. Sucks like a mothersucker.
