I voted for brexit not realising what i was voting for- I just listened to all the lies. I'm older now (29) and I regret my vote. How do leaver voters feels about people are regret voting brexit?

My DM voted leave, despite all her kids asking her not to, she has regretted it and said she made a mistake and believed lies. However she was so arsey at the time her apologies are nothing.
It was her choice, and that's ok, but the bloody aggressive fuss she made at the time means the sorry after carries little weight. I think I'd feel better if she stuck to her original argument.

Obsidian77 · 31/01/2020 22:19

I find it easier to deal with people who regret it, rather than people who insist it'll be better now we can sign some amazing new trade agreements and make our own rules on lightbulbs and kerb height.

VeryQuaintIrene · 31/01/2020 22:19

I hope there will be so many of them in the coming years that we will reverse it.

MajesticWhine · 31/01/2020 22:22

I prefer them to people who don't regret it. My DM has a fucking Union Jack over her gate.
I don't think there's anything to be gained from being bitter about it. I have a friend who has Brexit regret. I don't resent her for it.

PermanentTemporary · 31/01/2020 22:23

How do I feel? Nothing too bad but occasionally twitches of astonishment at some of them - how they can not have thought about it at the time. But I'm sure there are remainers who regret their vote so.

Sunshine1239 · 31/01/2020 22:26

I don’t know anyone who regrets voting so no opinion

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/01/2020 22:30

I feel sad and sorry and sometimes incredulous that people believed such blatant lies and closed their ears to the truth.Sad

ohhkay · 31/01/2020 22:32

My (highly educated) sister just admitted she voted leave "for a laugh". She was 18 at the time and never thought it would happen. She campaigned heavily for a People's Vote. What an idiot.

Antihop · 31/01/2020 22:32

I would like you to speak loudly about why you regret it. Write to your mp. Join a protest.

Fatasfooook · 31/01/2020 22:35

Learn from it, speak up about it.

Cinammoncake · 31/01/2020 22:37

I feel sorry for them. They were lied to

Sleeveen · 31/01/2020 22:37

I agree with @Antihop. Communicate your regret in targeted ways. Don’t swallow it.

Ohtherewearethen · 31/01/2020 22:38

I feel the same about them as I do all 'leave' voters. Their regrets and apologies mean shit all. A vote is a powerful thing and should not be taken lightly.

lljkk · 31/01/2020 22:38

Did you march in the streets or publicly declare your regret? Coz I don't have much patience with this confession if you didn't try to make amends. Still, you're easier to begrudge than people who still insist Leave is great.

Friend loudly proclaimed in December 2015 that she would vote LEAVE as a protest, but very truly did not want to Leave. "The Establishment just needs a kicking." she insisted. Since the result she is very pro-leave.... like she wants to go back & justify her vote as always perfectly reasonable & she knew what she was voting for. yet At no point was her position about EU membership.

I feel fury at protest voters. Did you want people like me to feel alienated & ignored? Are you happy with that result? What do you think you have achieved?

jamjarglow · 31/01/2020 22:40

My grandad voted for brexit. He’s dead now. I’m still pissed at him.

AlexaShutUp · 31/01/2020 22:50

I know a couple of people who voted leave and regretted it. I will be honest and say that I lost a lot of respect for them. I can't understand why people didn't do a bit more research before such an important decision.

I find it easier to deal with the people who at least have the sense to regret their votes. I utterly despise the people who are waving flags and celebrating tonight.

Honestly speaking, I don't think I will ever be able to really forgive people for this craziness.

doritosdip · 31/01/2020 22:59

I'm much less annoyed at them than the people who didn't vote in the first place. Those people voting could have made the vote more decisive.

Firecarrier · 31/01/2020 23:08

Same.

SchrodingersBox · 31/01/2020 23:08

I voted remain and regret it. We cancel each other out.

TheChosenTwo · 31/01/2020 23:09

I feel sorry for them. They were lied to

We were all lied to. Some people were intelligent enough to work this out, others it so much.

TheChosenTwo · 31/01/2020 23:09

Haha, I’m not intelligent enough to proof read though Grin

SilverySurfer · 31/01/2020 23:27

Bit late now isn't it lol.

BonnesVacances · 01/02/2020 00:00

How do I feel? Tough shit, tbh. Not my circus, not my monkeys.

EagleVisionSquirrelWork · 01/02/2020 00:08

I have (a bit) more respect for the leave voters who can admit it was a mistake than those who have dug their heels in and heaped stubbornness on stupidity. But it makes no difference now. All kinds of terrible change will follow Brexit now the floodgates have been opened and you will look back and have to live with the fact that you helped cause that.
