To ask what you would spend £1k on in Bicester Village?

I took out a women’s cancer insurance around 15 years ago and just got my premiums back as I thankfully didn’t need to claim for anything. I now have £1k which i don’t want to absorb into the household bills as I feel I should celebrate the fact that I’m healthy! I can get to Bicester Village and was wondering if I should spend it there? I’m not usually into designer clothes so this would be a real treat..what investment pieces would you buy? I work full time in an office but can wear smart casual there...usually in jeans and tops at the weekend and don’t like to bare legs or chest..

Didn’t mean to add the ‘Tote’!

My Bayswater has lasted years!

Rose789 · 31/01/2020 23:14

@Ancientruin it’s still on at the moment

Ninkanink · 31/01/2020 23:14

2 bags: one work/one evening, or one casual/one evening,

Or a Burberry trench coat/scarf.

Max Mara is well worth it for a beautiful coat.

Any number of things, really.

If I had the money right now I think I’d actually get jewellery. Maybe a ring or a bangle from Georg Jensen.

Ninkanink · 31/01/2020 23:18

Actually no, I’d get some Stuart weitzman boots!

Zebracat · 31/01/2020 23:43

I have that insurance. So excited. I’m going to finally lose weight and kick start a capsule wardrobe.

theunknownknown · 31/01/2020 23:47

Annoushka at Bicester has some lovely jewellery

SparklingUnderpants · 31/01/2020 23:57

A pair of brilliant diamond earrings

mnthrowaway202020 · 31/01/2020 23:59

Honestly I wouldn’t waste it at Bicester unless you find items you really want. The stuff is usually old/off season so you might be left with a selection of strange pieces with a cheap price, rather than something that’s exactly what you’re after

BubblesBuddy · 01/02/2020 00:12

I think BV is pretty good for classics if you look. In the past I’ve bought a Gucci Bamboo Handle bag and excellent jewellery from Annoushka. Plus there are always nice pieces of Dior jewellery and they don’t have “last season” written all over them. A bamboo handle bag won’t date. It’s about time we bought lasting items anyway!

Having been there today, the Mulberry shop had a good selection and Annoushka had their classic hoops and drops and a few other delights for around £1000. I always like Smythson for stylish leather and I saw lovely shoes in Jimmy Choo. However if you go expecting to find a Max Mara camel coat - think again. Only a few shorter ones and a poor selection today. Tods also had lovely bags and shoes as you would expect. You will have a fun day.

Bag from Bottega. They last forever

KC225 · 01/02/2020 02:40

I have two Mulberry bags and the lock mechanism is broken on both of them. In order for them to be fixed you have take them back to the shop and PAY for them to be fixed. Same thing has happened to a work colleague too.

Don't go for MULBERRY - not an investment.

sam221 · 01/02/2020 03:51

For that amount you could get a Burberry Mac about £500/700 and have money leftover to do a day trip to Paris on the Eurostar for lunch. So you get a product and an experience.

Sunflower20 · 01/02/2020 03:52

Don't spend it in Bicester unless you know exactly what you want from there, the stock is not particularly fashionable or classic. Don't buy a Mulberry either, the brand is well past it now and quality is nowhere near as good as it was years ago.

Cooloncraze · 01/02/2020 03:58

Don’t spend it in Bicester. Most of the stores there generate lower quality stock specifically to sell in the outlet. I’ve rarely found a real bargain there. Sometimes cashmere from Joseph.
If you really want to visit an outlet then go to the Mulberry shop in Shepton Mallet.
If I were you I’d go to Liberty though.

PurpleFlower1983 · 01/02/2020 07:37

@Sunflower20 Really?! That’s a shame! My bag is years old and looks brand new!

Cremebrule · 01/02/2020 07:54

Think about what you would really use. I have a Burberry coat and a mulberry handbag. The coat has been worn to death but I never really got on with the Bayswater and it is sitting in my drawer. Other people will have used their bags to death. A nice watch could be another option.

Cremebrule · 01/02/2020 07:56

Also, if you can wait, you’d probably get a good deal in Black Friday deals at Selfridges if you did want a handbag.

Atalune · 01/02/2020 08:04

Mulberry Bayswater is HEAVY and I sold mine because of that!

I would get diamond studs I think.

ItsLegalTender · 01/02/2020 08:57

The Emma Bridgewater ship

ItsLegalTender · 01/02/2020 08:57

Shop

Mum2KSS · 01/02/2020 09:01

I’m surprised at how many of you wouldn’t go to BV. I’m in no rush to spend it so might be better to wait till sales and go elsewhere ... that would give me a chance to lose a little weight first as well..

Pearl earrings. Big ones.

Lippy1234 · 01/02/2020 09:09

I’d probably buy a bag you really like rather than look for a certain brand, a pair of boots you’ll wear a lot and a couple of fab outfits.

Atalune · 01/02/2020 09:56

Don’t buy anything that is expensive that isn’t the PERFECT fit. So if you’re loosing weight, wait!

spurs4ever · 01/02/2020 10:04

Buy anything you want and enjoy splashing out x
