To ask what you would spend £1k on in Bicester Village?

I took out a women’s cancer insurance around 15 years ago and just got my premiums back as I thankfully didn’t need to claim for anything. I now have £1k which i don’t want to absorb into the household bills as I feel I should celebrate the fact that I’m healthy! I can get to Bicester Village and was wondering if I should spend it there? I’m not usually into designer clothes so this would be a real treat..what investment pieces would you buy? I work full time in an office but can wear smart casual there...usually in jeans and tops at the weekend and don’t like to bare legs or chest..

I second a Burberry jacket, although I'd go for the quilted one.

Do you mind me asking how you did this op?
I’ve been making monthly payments for the same thing now for over 20 years (it was a well woman insurance originally sold to me by my bank) and would be interested in getting my premiums back.

I'd get jewellery. Something classic.

When my gran died she left me her jewellery and the same amount you have - £1000. Some bastard stole the jewellery from her flat so I took the money and bought a lovely solitaire diamond necklace. It's classic and is a lovely way to remember her. A handbag or shoes wouldn't have the same longevity. You can get some lovely classic jewellery for £1000. Every time you wear it you can celebrate your recovery. X

Sorry - I misread about not making a claim!

These ‘ designer villages’ usually sell what the parent company has rejected . Eg Discontinued lines, manufacturer fault, over production of something, no longer fashionable.
I would spend the money on something precious and heartfelt. Eg, a nice piece of Jewellery, a holiday , an experience. Something to remember.

Bibijayne · 31/01/2020 21:58

Handbag.

Oct18mummy · 31/01/2020 22:02

Mulberry bag

mytypeonpaper · 31/01/2020 22:03

A handbag- I've just brought a Louis Vuitton never full/ the checkdd one and it's bloody beautiful

ginandgingers92 · 31/01/2020 22:05

Mulberry handbag and purse 😍😍😍😍😍

bellsbuss · 31/01/2020 22:07

A Gucci handbag

ginandgingers92 · 31/01/2020 22:07

Mulberry! Their Bayswaters are around £690 - £700 (yep, I've bought myself wayyyy too many) and purses around £180/£200, so you'll get a beautiful haul 😍

SistersOfPercy · 31/01/2020 22:21

Belstaff leather jacket Ive had my eye on for years and a Mulberry bag.

I was distinctly unimpressed with Bicester though. I'm clearly more a Cheshire Oaks girl I think.

BadRuby · 31/01/2020 22:24

I would invest in a coat. Spend the rest on a hair cut and a bit of pampering.

Whenever I see people in "normal" clothes with a designer bag etc I just assume it's a fake as it's so incongruous.

AmethystMoonShine · 31/01/2020 22:26

Burberry Mac, I got a beautiful classic black short black one for £600
My tan Leather Belstaff jacket was about £500
Some nice Mulberry bags but Gucci or Prada have nice bags or actually I’d easily lose £700+ on a Chloe bag

Deariedrearyme · 31/01/2020 22:27

Definitely a bag. I'd go Gucci Smile

PermanentTemporary · 31/01/2020 22:27

Lingerie. But not at Bicester village. Rigby and pellet? Silk negligee?

PermanentTemporary · 31/01/2020 22:28

Rigby and peller. Rigby and Pellet sounds like a sitcom about a chicken farm...

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 31/01/2020 22:29

Another one saying mulberry bag (if you like them of course) I have 3 which I’ve been using for years. I think a decent handbag can lift a whole outfit and make it look better.

PermanentTemporary · 31/01/2020 22:30

Ooh! One word - corsetry. I bought a waist cincher thing about 20 years ago from Wolfords and it still gets Results now.

Needallthesleep · 31/01/2020 22:39

Not Bicester, but I would get a pair of diamond earrings

Moominmummy12 · 31/01/2020 22:56

Really don’t get the fascination with mulberry bags. Heavy and clumpy.

Definitely some jewellery.

Ancientruin · 31/01/2020 23:00

@Rose789
Have they not stopped that yet?

Friend of mine in retail management said they’re planning on stopping it to solely allow for Emergency Service employees and no other organisations soon.

Get in quick!

Mum2KSS · 31/01/2020 23:01

Wow! Thanks for all your responses, I didn’t expect so many so quickly! A Burberry coat has been on my wish list for a while and yes, I dress very ‘normally’ so I guess people would assume the handbag is fake...might have to upgrade my basics to a higher standard!!
PoptartPoptart yes mine was a well woman one as well, they wrote to me when the policy ended and asked whether I would like to renew - which I have done, the refund was automatic, this wasn’t part of the renewal deal...give them a call, you haven’t closed the account you had 20 years ago did you??

www.johnlewis.com/our-services/personal-styling

A lot of the John Lewis packages are free; seems like a great idea if you've got some cash to spend on the clothes
