To send you all a plate of chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven and a hug across the Pond as our two nations implode on the same day?

Brexit and Donald Trump. Two things that didn't have to be by the smallest of margins. Two towering catastrophes that are going to be scarring our beautiful countries in unknown ways for years to come. And today the ugliness is just coming to a head. Sending love to celebrate the best of Britain along with a small sustaining snack on this bitter day.

Where are my cookies? Sentiment is lovely, but I would like some actual cookies.

JuneFromBethesda · 31/01/2020 11:25

Thanks @Durgasarrow. Hopefully one day both nations will see sense, you’ll be rid of Trump and we’ll be back in the EU Smile

Sweetbabycheezits · 31/01/2020 11:27

Thanks, Durgasarrow I'm a dual UK/US citizen, and I'm not sure which train wreck to focus my energy on! Cookies and hugs appreciated, and reciprocated! 😊

This. I'm trying not to think about it too much today, but it hurts.

LordBuckley · 31/01/2020 11:53

Thanks, Durg.

I didn't think I'd be so upset about Brexit, but I've just lost my right to vote anywhere in the world, so I'm not exactly happy.

I've applied for citizenship in the country where I live, but it may take up to 3 more years to come through.

LochJessMonster · 31/01/2020 11:56

I mean, that's your opinion. I've been looking forward to this day for 4 years.

Despite the many threads on MN, evidently the majority of the British voters want Brexit and don't see it as a towering catastrophe.

fridgegrazer · 31/01/2020 12:00

True - but this is a thread for those who do.
Thanks OP - I will reciprocate with scones and crumpets!

dreamingbohemian · 31/01/2020 12:06

I'm staying in bed all day.

I might move to the sofa later to drink wine.

What a fucking horrible day.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 31/01/2020 12:07

Thanks OP.

LochJessMonster · 31/01/2020 12:08

True - but this is a thread for those who do. No this is AIBU. For anybody to put their opinion.

There is a whole Brexit category for this, plus at least two other current threads on AIBU/Chat-

It was only just over half the country who voted for brexit in the referendum.
Those who have voted for the “get brexit done” BS predominantly only voted to get us out of this ridiculous stalemate we have been in for years and a lot thought it was the only way to avoid a no deal brexit.

If they had done the referendum the way it should have been done, agreed a preliminary deal and voted for that or stay, so everyone would actually have know what they were voting for, I still believe things would have gone very differently.

The only people happy about brexit are the selfish people with a lot of money who think it will benefit them and screw everyone else

NurseButtercup · 31/01/2020 12:13

Thankyou op - I might go and bake some cookies if I have the ingredients in my kitchen cupboards

QuestionableMouse · 31/01/2020 12:16

@LochJessMonster 52/48 is hardly massive.

BJ was visiting the Glass Centre in Sunderland today so he's double ruined today for me because I couldn't bloody get parked at uni!

windycuntryside · 31/01/2020 12:20

Thanks. The scope of the UK will reduce and the ego of trump will do the opposite. What a sad day.

LochJessMonster · 31/01/2020 12:23

52/48 is hardly massive. I didn't say massive. I said majority. Which it is.

Anyway, I don't want to derail this thread any further, I was just putting in my twopence that not everyone sees this as a 'towering catastrophe'

bluebellation · 31/01/2020 12:24

Thanks OP, a sad day indeed.

OvaltinaTurner · 31/01/2020 12:24

I am eating chocolate chip cookies as we speak. Very nice they are too.
As I have very close family in Germany and in Spain I am taking today very hard and subsequently eating my way through it.
Best wishes from across the pond OP Brew Cake

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 31/01/2020 12:26

LochJess we can agree on Trump at least... (I hope)

I heard his wall blew down, how is he taking it?

TheDogsMother · 31/01/2020 12:40

Thanks Durg. The cookies would be a small consolation amongst all this hell.

Durgasarrow · 31/01/2020 12:41

Oh scones, lovely! May I have some clotted cream, please? And Victoria sponge!! It's at least cheering to share the sorrows with likeminded friends.

OP posts:
TheMemoryLingers · 31/01/2020 12:45

Sending you a lovely light Victoria sponge oozing with jam and buttercream and dusted delicately with icing sugar. Cake

Saddler · 31/01/2020 12:46

You're alright thanks.

tiredandgrumpy · 31/01/2020 12:49

Wish this was one of those days when a nice British cup of tea would make things better, but we've gone way beyond even that.

Mummyme1987 · 31/01/2020 12:52

Majority of the people who voted for brexit, not a majority of people in this country. The last election to me seemed about just getting it done after all this messing about. Not the same at all.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 12:52

Thank you durga
