to think that MNHQ shouldn't do this?

That they shouldn't edit our posts if they are going to post them on Facebook and they shouldn't post them on FB without an automated message to let us know that they have?

But they do notify people that they may share content, its right there in the Terms and Conditions which you must click to agree to before you can become a member.

MNHQ have published books before with quotes/posts in from MN users.

SerendipityJane · 30/01/2020 14:19

The OP is of course free to think that MNHQ should contact them if a post is edited and/or forwarded. However MNs T&Cs say otherwise.

OP is free to start a thread in "site stuff" suggesting or requesting MNHQ change this. However the $1,000,000 question is what if MNHQ say "No" ?

LochJessMonster · 30/01/2020 14:21

I have to admit, I didn't think they would make it so obvious with the username and full original post - I thought they might just take quotes etc

SoupDragon · 30/01/2020 14:48

But you are OK with that appearing on the forum, which is just as public?

FlibbertyGiblets · 30/01/2020 14:52

You know that photo of Picard with head on hand?

SerendipityJane · 30/01/2020 14:55

You know that photo of Picard with head on hand?

Are we talking the classic single, or the double Grin.

There is a treble, for extreme occasions ....

FlibbertyGiblets · 30/01/2020 15:29
Grin
CakeandCustard28 · 30/01/2020 15:57

Question is... did Mexican house thief make the cut for MN FB? Grin

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 30/01/2020 15:59

They can (and have) published posts in books as well.

Thanks OP, I think that clarifies the issue.

I think most users are aware that their posts are public and can be used elsewhere, either by MN or in the likes of the Mail.

However MN deliberately editing posts to be more provocative, without the original poster's knowledge and whilst still associated with their user name, isn't what I would have expected from them.

If a MN poster did it they'd probably be deleted for being goady...

JosefKeller · 30/01/2020 16:17

I need to start making my username and posts more generic Confused

why do you think people are less likely to read your posts on MN than they are on social media?

WaterSheep · 30/01/2020 16:21

I have no issues with MN putting posts on other social media platforms. However, editing the post to make it more controversial is down right dishonest, and the original OP deserves an explanation.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 30/01/2020 16:34

that's really shitty to selectively edit stuff....c'mon HQ, explain yourselves, you have had long enough to make something up and edit facts in or out to suit

Booboostwo · 30/01/2020 16:35

YANBU While they may be within their legal right to repost, editing the posts to misrepresent them and provoke controversy is Daily Fail wankerishness. Their site, their rules, but equally no posters, no site, no business.

Well clearly there's no risk to business so far then.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 30/01/2020 16:59

Yanbu, and said as much on the thread itself.

Rainbowx · 30/01/2020 19:27

Ooh I didn't know this thanks I need to read ts & cs more !

AutumnRose1 · 30/01/2020 19:50

I’m not sure what the legality is, but editing the post to make the poster look bad and cause a pile on isn’t what I think of when I think of them owning and using posts.

No wonder they don’t listen to requests for “hide poster” - as far as the business model goes, the more bun fights, the better.

Winecheesesleep · 30/01/2020 20:11

YANBU - totally fine to use posts on their social media as it belongs to them but very dishonest and misleading to edit posts like that.

Cohle · 30/01/2020 20:12

They expressly reserve the right to exploit User Content "in whole or in part" so I expect legally it's absolute fine for them to edit posts in this way.

It's not particularly "in the spirit" though is it. Surely there are plenty of posts that are controversial enough without being editorialised.

WarmSausageTea · 30/01/2020 20:18

If you're not paying for the product, you are the product.

This. Absolutely this, and now more than ever.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 30/01/2020 20:31

Wow!! That is epically scummy of MNHQ. What with this and them posting the thread about the woman fleeing domestic abuse they’ve really gone to the dogs. It’s really low of them.

VenusTiger · 30/01/2020 20:36

What is your username for - you're a nobody on SM so it matters not a jot!

JosefKeller · 30/01/2020 20:42

next you'll accuse MN to start goady thread to boost readings and end up in the DM Grin
