To not want to be rushed out of a car park?

MsMarvel · 29/01/2020 12:30

Travel around for work, so regularly use public car parks to then work at client sites (hotels, bars etc) always arrive early so never have any issue getting spaces in busy car parks.

Because i work in a public area at a client site, when i get back to my car like to grab my lunch quickly and make some phonecalls before heading home (todays journey is a 2 hour drive home)

Im fed up of people trying to find spaces in car parks seeing me going into my car, amd sitting behind me waiting for me to leave! I normally end up feeling rushed and just leave, but today i decided to sit and eat the steak bake i bought on the way to the car. Woman sits behind me for like 5 mins, then goes past slowly peering into my car giving me proper evils. Should add, engine not on, so not sitting with idling engine.

Aibu to take some time before leaving a parking space??

I think from reading the thread not all Greggs have seating areas. My two nearest, one does one doesn’t.
But TBF I would rather sit in my car than in Greggs, not sure why my digestion would suffer though.

redcarbluecar · 31/01/2020 08:50

And also, although it’s been said many times on the thread, whilst you are enjoying the luxury of the Greggs seating area, your car is still in the space!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 31/01/2020 09:07

I am just picturing all the people on this thread, sitting in their cars eating steak bakes, giggling to themselves about the fact they have a space and there are people hanging around waiting for one 😂

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 31/01/2020 09:09

So many posters waiting ready to pounce on the next person who says yabu. They must be sitting refreshing the page every 2 minutes.

Mia1415 · 31/01/2020 09:28

This thread is absolutely hilarious. What difference does it make if someone eats their lunch in a car or in a café? The car is still parked.

When you park your car in a busy car park do you rush around doing your shopping/ eating your dinner/ having an appointment so that you can rush back to your car in case there is someone else who wants the space that may have a greater need than you? Of course not.

lottiegarbanzo · 31/01/2020 09:28

There's a really weird level of 'I'm all right Jack' self-satisfaction and failure to comprehend that other people's circumstances might be different from yours, on this thread. Mostly appearing in combination with the word 'errand'.

As in, 'there's plentiful on-street parking in my town' and 'I'd just drive home to eat lunch' and 'I'd leave as soon as I've completed my errand'.

What does any of that have to do with someone who has driven a long way away from home, to a town that may not have plentiful on-street parking, or if it does, they may not know where it is?

They're not 'running an errand'. They can't get home for lunch. They're out for their full working day. It's lunch time, they need to eat lunch.

Now pleeeaaase someone explain how eating in a cafe before returning to their car is better, in terms of freeing up a parking space. Go on, I dare you to try!

Toomuchtrouble4me · 31/01/2020 09:40

Oulu

Not free parking,, but lload of residents parking spaces where you can pull up and talk/ear

Not near every car park, which tend to be in shopping/business rather than residential areas. Residential areas also tend to remain parked up during the day, due to people with two cars, SAHMs, people who work from home etc etc.

And it's hardly planet friendly to make a totally unnecessary journey to try to find a space

🤣 So, hardly planet friendly to drive away from a crowded carb park - so just stay there?🤣 she has to leave anyway, just stop en-route for calls and pie!

The space is designed and needed for those using facilities. Once you’re done, move.
How could you sit in full car park and make calls and eat when others are driving around looking for a space? And then start a moan thread about it! So selfish.
If it’s in town there will always be a residents bay, on the outskirts there will more space, siingle yellows etc. Finding a place to stop to eat and make your phone calls is nowhere near as difficult as finding a place to park and leave your car - as you well know so stop trying to flog your dead horse with silly comments about the planet which are neither relevant or true.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 31/01/2020 09:41

Haha - carb park - perhaps we should rename them As such - for the pie eaters.Grin

lottiegarbanzo · 31/01/2020 09:49

Incidentally, there are cities in the UK where all on-street parking is metered. You'd have to drive out to the suburbs to find residential roads you could park on.

Whaaat? Other cities that are not the same as the one I know? Yes.

You think? Wink

PeachyPeachTrees · 31/01/2020 10:13

10 spaces outside my GP surgery, I'm in and out of that parking space.

Multi storey car park and I want 10 minutes to eat a steak bake or drink a coffee or even reply to a few messages on my phone before I take a 2 hour journey home, sit in your car until ready to set off.

YANBU

Make up your mind, @TooMuchTrouble4Me. Do you want people to go driving around looking for empty spaces in residential streets, or are you now saying people should stop in the middle of main roads on their way to their next destination?

How could you sit in full car park and make calls and eat when others are driving around looking for a space?

Yet again - what difference does it make if I sit in the car or sit in a restaurant or just convenient bench nearby? I won't leave any earlier.

cuparfull · 31/01/2020 10:36

I think it would be kind to vacate the space if you are safely able to.
In these pressurised times, everyone has places to be....people to meet....working to unrealistic timescales and heaven knows what else impacting on their mental ill health.
So whatever kindness you can extend to your fellow humans makes life a little easier all round Flowers

cuparfull · 31/01/2020 10:41

Why are so many on here soooo confrontational, life's difficult enough without making it more difficult for each other.

Equanimitas · 31/01/2020 10:45

I was walking through the car park having just parked the other day when a driver stopped and asked if I was leaving, and was most put out that I wasn't. I'm wondering if the driver was one of the people on this thread who seem to think that people looking for spaces automatically take priority.

Hope you pie eaters have a dust buster handy😊

Today 10:14 Oulu

So, hardly planet friendly to drive away from a crowded carb park - so just stay there? she has to leave anyway, just stop en-route for calls and pie!

Yes Oulu, I think that people should stop in the middle of a busy main road and eat a sandwich!
Ffs - are you really unable to comprehend a bit of kindness or just deliberately obtuse?
I’ll tell you what I have made my mind up about - you’re clearly not someone who considers doing the decent thing a priority and I have no desire to continue discussing this with you. Bye bye selfish thread.

Apolloanddaphne · 31/01/2020 11:37

I'm going to be very honest here. I don't really like Gregg's steak bakes or indeed any of their pastry goods. I would probably be sitting in my car eating a Pret sandwich or salad.

woodhill · 31/01/2020 11:42

I love their vegetable bakes but not the flaky pastry crumbs.

Yes, I do eat in my car and make calls occasionally😊

lottiegarbanzo · 31/01/2020 11:49

Ohhh but you didn't do my quiz Toomuchtrouble4me Don't go Sad

isabellerossignol · 31/01/2020 11:56

This thread is an interesting example of female socialisation. So many posts exhorting others to be more kind and remember that everyone else's needs must come before your own.

I'm not suggesting that only looking out for yourself is a good thing, clearly it's not, but there is a balancing act in the middle where it is perfectly OK to meet your own needs, whilst also being considerate of others. Insisting that someone is selfish or sneaky or unkind to take a few minutes to do something that she needs to do (grab a bite to eat, make a phonecall) is guilt tripping, and it's always women who are expected to give up their needs for others, even in a situation where it is detrimental to them.

howabout · 31/01/2020 12:08

It just gets worse. Single yellows are, at most, for unloading, dropping off and picking up during the working day. They are not for stopping to eat steak bakes and catch up on phone calls.

PurpleGentian · 31/01/2020 12:12

Finding a place to stop to eat and make your phone calls is nowhere near as difficult as finding a place to park and leave your car

I think how true that is depends to a large extent on how familiar you are with the area.

If it’s somewhere you’re very familiar with, then sure, you may well know lots of good places nearby where you could pull over for 5 minutes.

If you’re not familiar with the area, then it can be a very different story.
Car parks are usually easy to find because they’re signposted (even if actual spaces are in short supply), but if you’re trying to find somewhere on the side of the road to stop for 5 minutes, you can easily end up driving around for ages or getting lost in an unfamiliar place.
