Considering 2 primary aged children.

Just bring nosey as I'm in the process of agreeing my new working pattern (which too me 10 years within my company)
Mon - Thurs 8.45am -3.30pm term time only
Think it's pretty perfect 😀

I think I'd like about 30 - I'm easy on whether that's 4 full days a week or a combination of more, shorter days. I'm doing 15.75 at the moment and although I love the job and accept that those are the hours on offer, I'd love to be working "almost" full time now DC are grown up, but with enough flexibility to do my own thing some of the time too.

HerRoyalNotness · 28/01/2020 18:54

I’d even work the Friday with those hours! Any job that could give me the 11 weeks summer holiday off would be my dream

CharitySchmarity · 28/01/2020 18:55

Oh, I misread the question - didn't realise you were talking about specifically when you have children. I was actually a teaching assistant for most of my DC's school career and it was perfect, at least until they got to mid teens and didn't really need me for anything. But I never got "full-time" TA work which is usually about 25 hours in primary. The most I did regularly was 20, plus occasional dinnerladying. Again, it wasn't that I wouldn't have liked more hours, they just weren't available.

2020runner · 28/01/2020 18:55

Honestly I'd love to find something office based where I could do 5am-9am 4 days a week or 6am-12pm 2 days per week. Not guna happen though unfortunately

iklboo · 28/01/2020 19:00

8am till 5 past, one day a week Grin

Stickybeaksid · 28/01/2020 19:00

I work 8-4 or 7-3 5 days a week with two days agile from home.

HelloHelloHelloHelloHelloHello · 28/01/2020 19:01

Zero!

HelloHelloHelloHelloHelloHello · 28/01/2020 19:02

(just to clarify - zero is my ideal! My actual hours are around 40 per week :(!!)

ShirleyPhallus · 28/01/2020 19:02

I think I’d be a really good lady of the manor

Taking tennis lessons, having afternoon tea with friends, occasionally taking the vintage sports car for a turn, polishing my pearls. I think that would pretty much amount to a full time job.

Twinkletoes888 · 28/01/2020 19:03

I’d like mon-fri 9-3 term time only

Lipperfromchipper · 28/01/2020 19:04

I have it already 9.00-2.40 term time only... love it!! Love my job!

FizzyPink · 28/01/2020 19:05

If I could still earn my current salary ideally 7am to 12pm every day. DP works very odd hours starting early and then finishes very late so I could meet him for lunch and then spend the afternoon doing whatever I like.
Some extra holiday would be most welcome as well and I’d rather not work at all on Fridays.

Paddingtonthebear · 28/01/2020 19:07

I do Mon to Fri 9.30am to 2.30pm all year round with 28 days holiday plus BH. I need to use a bit of childcare during school holidays but nothing during term time

nocluewhattodoo · 28/01/2020 19:07

I do 20-28 hours over two or three shifts from Friday night into the weekend. I'd just like to not have to work nights as it's awful for my MH, but childcare is too expensive so I'm have to be at home with DD the rest of the week. I get no free time essentially at the moment as I have to go to bed early during the week to catch up on sleep. I can't wait until she goes to school and I will have some semblance of my own life again.

Maryann1975 · 28/01/2020 19:08

Would you still end up paying childcare with those hours? Or do you work right over the road to school or have someone who does school runs for free for you?

For me, ideal hours would be 9.15-3.15, (depending on location obviously). Term time only would be ideal, but financially we would struggle for me to loose 13 weeks pay a year. I think it’s brilliant that companies offer this type of contract though, they do really help working families.

Mummynet101 · 28/01/2020 19:09

I work 10-4 Monday to Friday which works well for now as it allows me to drop my son to childcare. My son will be starting school in September so I will be requesting to work from home once a week so I could collect him. I will still be dropping him everyday. I negotiated a reduced hours on the same workload plus my full time salary when I returned to work after my second maternity leave and they agreed without a fuss.

Raver84 · 28/01/2020 19:12

I live my hours I work 6pm to 2am 4 night a week in an office. Husband is home at that time so I don't have any child care. I do miss evenings though but bein around for the kids in the day is fab and I never need child care during school hol.

CountFosco · 28/01/2020 19:12

DH and I both do a mix of short and long days so one of us does the school run every day. Pretty perfect. I like having some days at work when I don't need to rush away and can stay late and come home to a hot meal and some days when I waltz out the door at 2.30.

NotYourTypicalNerd · 28/01/2020 19:18

I would still need child care with those hours. I work 9-3 Mon to Fri and DD gets dropped off at 8.35 so easy commute in then picked up at 3.20 - perfect!

Sparklesocks · 28/01/2020 19:19

I tend to do 8.30-4.30 which suits me quite well.
In an ideal world I’d work part time, used to work with someone who did 10-3 and I always thought that would be nice - you miss the rush hour on both sides and have a proper evening.

rosegoldivy · 28/01/2020 19:24

@ikaboo pfff that's some long ass hours 😂😂

MondeoFan · 28/01/2020 19:24

I would love term time only but unfortunately I don't. I work 6.30am - 14:00pm Mon-Thurs

During school holiday I either book time off, take it unpaid or my DC14 looks after DC5 2 days and I send her other 2 days to childminder

lostinthevoid · 28/01/2020 19:28

I do 9 to 5.30 four days a week, the mid-week day off changes as I need it. I think that's pretty good. :)

lostinthevoid · 28/01/2020 19:28

Should add I don't have kids though. :D

Peanutbutterbean · 28/01/2020 19:38

Primary aged children here too and I went back after being full time (before 4 years taken on ‘extended maternity leave’ ) to mon-fri 9.30am-2.30pm and all school holidays off. I Realise lucky I am! I have a great boss 👍
