We have had qwartz worktops and upstands fitted to our new kitchen today. However, I feel the joins are very noticeable. I wasn't expecting them to be completely invisible but was expecting them to be blended in some way. Is this right? Or should I complain? Hopefully pictures included

The silicone they have used is clear so looks more like a gap. It's also slightly bigger at one end. I wasn't expecting it to be invisible but thought it would be much less obvious

I had quartz and it was virtually seamless. That looks wrong to me

Bobbybobbins · 28/01/2020 17:31

I agree OP that these look way more 'obvious' than they should.

Attempt 2 to post!

burnoutbabe · 28/01/2020 17:47

Success! mine is done at an angle where it joins, which looks neater, or at least less obvious.

caperberries · 28/01/2020 17:55

They look wrong to me, I'd be disappointed too

MissConductUS · 28/01/2020 18:01

Does the contractor have a showroom with sample counters on display? If so you could have a look at what they show potential customers compared to your installation.

I think they look fabulous tbh.

FreakStar · 28/01/2020 18:01

The joins in my granite tops are filled with a matching filler.

Straycatstrut · 28/01/2020 18:14

The gap looks too big to me? I'd expect some sort of filler/blender because I'm guessing that is not cheap!

Mention it!

Motorbike311 · 28/01/2020 18:19

I've had dozens of these worktops installed at work, this should have been siliconed.

HisBetterHalf · 28/01/2020 18:20

Mines black with black filler in the joins. I would say your filler is a tad dark for the worktop

PutYourLipsTogetherAndBlow · 28/01/2020 18:20

I think that looks awful - not right at all! Unacceptable.

JH12 · 28/01/2020 18:22

He's coming back tomorrow to do the window sill so will ask him. We got them from howdens but they sub contract the fitters.

Surely the edges where two bits meet should be sharp angled so they virtually meet? the smoothed off edge (mitred?) should only be where it’s not butted up against another piece.

I wouldn’t be happy with that OP, sorry.

SunOnAll · 28/01/2020 18:23

I'd be very disappointed too, OP. Complain and say you're unhappy, something might be able to be done?

KillingEvenings · 28/01/2020 18:37

If the joins are visible, I think the backsplash should be centred over the hob so at least it's in a less noticeable / more purposeful looking space

KillingEvenings · 28/01/2020 18:39

ditto sink

LookMoreCloselier · 28/01/2020 18:48

I've got white marble effect quartz and the joins are like the others posted in the thread, I agree it looks too obvious in your photos, they should fill with a similar colour if possible?

waddlemyway · 28/01/2020 18:51

We have black quartz and it has a hard black filler. You can subtly see it but it is flat and whole and certainly no crumbs or the like can get down there - talk about a health hazard over the years! Where the back-splash joins at a 90degree angle there is silicone.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/01/2020 18:53

Our quartz is white with grey sparkles. We barely notice the joins. I think there’s too much gap in yours, I’m afraid.

finkploydthethird · 28/01/2020 18:53

It doesn't look finished, I'd be asking them to come back and sort it out.

Bakedbrie · 28/01/2020 19:04

More visible with the shade Of stone you’ve chosen I feel, black or white less so. The mastic has been matched. Upstand joint doesn’t look to bad but the large surface is yes, rather obvious. It could be a bugger to fix tbh for a minor minor improvement.
