To be mildly annoyed that some pubs can’t get their head around the fact that even though this is a wedding I’m trying to book, it’s a small affair!

I live in a lovely area with some stunning pubs.

I’m having the tiniest of weddings, want to head off to a local afterwards, handful of family coming along.

Manager of one lovely pub, ‘don’t really cater for weddings’doesn’t know what corkage is, thinks we’ll be pissed off dining with the ‘regulars’ Hmm
Another pub in the area is far more accommodating and knows what they’re talking about but this young manager (and I’m not being ageist here) doesn’t seem to have a clue. Such a shame as the venue is stunning!
I wish I’d just asked to book a table and rock on up!

This ain’t no bridezilla but pubzilla! Why do people fall apart the minute you mention ‘wedding’!Hmm

@BillieEilishAnd ‘wedding insurance’Crown Hmm come again? For 12 people, on a early, midweek afternoon, sitting with the OAP’s! Have I entered into another dimension here? Seriously?

SweetMarmalade
‘Corkage’ why would you want to open your own drink in a PUB. No wonder they don’t want to entertain you cheapskate.

BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:04

Because you need it. If the pub had to shut, you are insured and able to book something equal nearby.

This is what wedding insurance is for. Unless you don't mind a call saying everyone is off with norovirus/no fish that day/too many staff off for full service etc.

I am not adding to drama Hmm I really don't care. I just find your attitude pretty stupid TBH.

The pub don't want to do it. Find somewhere else who does. Preferably somewhere not packed with OAP's, doesn't sound ideal to me.

BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:07

Whoever booked their wedding in a pub with OAP's?
You really change your story OP

BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:12

Book a wedding venue for 15.
Book a table at a pub, take your chances at the menu, if they are open, if they have champers, and rock up.

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:12

Really? Insurance? For a 12 seater table? Hmm Does the same apply to children’s parties, birthday parties etc? I’ve never heard of this before? So if the venue cancelled where do I claim from?

OP posts:
BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:13

You'd have back up.
If you're planning a menu and taking your own booze I presume you'd want this? Or Wetherspoons it is!

BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:14

Why do you think a 12 seater table is not a big deal?

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:15

@BillieEilish I’m not changing my story! You add to my story though. Pubs generally, midweek don’t have their usual Friday/Saturday evening crowd do they?

OP posts:
BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:16

Nor their staff nor their produce. Do they?

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:17

Nor their busy evening crowd do they?

We’ll agree to disagree.

OP posts:
SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:17

But the other pub’s ok with it! Just saying!

OP posts:
BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:17

To provide a menu for 12 at the same time, specified by person, you would need extra produce and extra staff. Can you really not see that?

You have asked to bring your own booze to boot Grin

EstebanTheMagnificent · 28/01/2020 23:19

There is absolutely no way that it could be worth their while to make a roast for 12 midweek. It works on Sundays because the numbers are high. It’s labour-intensive and they would likely have to bring in extra staff in order to run their usual menu alongside.

I don’t think that your custom for this event is quite as valuable as you think it is, OP.

BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:19

So why the AIBU if the pub is ok? Don't waste our time with this ridiculous scenario if it is sorted.

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:19

The booze keeps being mentioned! I’m not rolling in half a dozen kegs!

Can you tell me why the extremes between the two venues then?

OP posts:
SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:20

Because you keep on coming back with ridiculous posts!

OP posts:
BillieEilish · 28/01/2020 23:23

OK, I'm off. Good luck with your wedding reception that is very cool and not a wedding reception OP

Hope you get it sorted, I mean that Flowers

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:24

Thank you, I’m really not a bridezilla Crown GrinFlowers

OP posts:
SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:25

I’m the most unassuming bride ever Crown Blush

OP posts:
SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:28

And if we could have got just gone and done it, without witnesses (that we know) we would have just done it!

OP posts:
interview101 · 28/01/2020 23:34

Just go to the chippy then, you can drink your own booze.

The asking for corkage for 2 measly bottles of plonk is weird. Just buy it in the pub!

MiddleClassProblem · 28/01/2020 23:44

It’s a bit like going into a nail bar and getting a lip wax and painting your own fingernails whilst you’re there with shellac, but then getting your toes painted by them with regular polish.

How much other booze are you going to buy if you’re just going for a lunch meal? Or are you planning to stay all night? They might want that table for dinner service (at which point my brain is envisaging you pulling out a multipack of McCoy’s 😂)

Roasts take up a lot of oven space which is why it’s efficient to do it all on one day. If stuff comes with roast potatoes etc already in the menu then that might be easier but the meat would be an issue.

SweetMarmalade · 28/01/2020 23:55

I shall keep you all updated on my chosen venue.

Thanks to those who have wished me well and thanks to those who have given a good debate, I’ll even thank those who just like sticking the boot in (think I’ll give the chippy a miss)

Need to focus on the dress, boho and whimsical! Now there’s another AIBU thread to come!
