DS (6) has a new 'friend'. I'm not impressed. AIBU if I bin this 'friend'?

New 'friend' is called Piney and is a lump of pineapple. All Piney's siblings got eaten, but Piney is special. Piney sleeps in the fridge but likes to watch DS playing games on his xbox. DS like to talk to him.
Last night DS cried because Piney couldn't sleep in his bed with him. Piney has been here for almost a week now. Do I bin him?

Bear in mind that DS is autistic and his actual bestie emigrated last month and he's really missing him. Piney is a rebound friend.

How about a simple pet. A pet stick insect or snails that can live in a tank or something?

I know you will talk to your child about what he needs from the friend and engage further.

My autistic dd kept bringing home snails and I got frustrated and asked why and she said 'because I want some friends.' She did already have friends but clearly a snail was within her control and maybe there is more to Piney than just a friends, a friend he can control.

My ds has asd and is the same age. I would be replacing Piney every five days or so. Jellycat option would induce a meltdown.

DH just told me that DS wouldn't eat Piney because he could see his face. That's how he came into being. Can't see it myself, although he is a bit dried up now.

OP, if you're encouraging an attachment to the Jellycat pineapple then make sure you get several and switch them around regularly so they wear at the same rate. We do this with an owl we got from Ikea and it works well.
