To remove upper lip hair.

Odd one. Have always had light blonde upper lip hairs. I am very fair anyway but recently it seems to have got thicker and the odd darker hair so I decided to start removing with hair removal cream.

It doesn’t seem to be growing back overly fast. I do it every week. Definitely manageable.

OH has gone mad saying I’m stupid and it’ll grow back thicker and faster and he won’t kiss me if it’s grows back spikey.

I should be grateful he didn’t want me to remove me original upper lip hair but I was so paranoid about it and make up started to look terrible with it.

Aibu to think it’s normal to remove upper lip hair. If needed or you want to of course!!

It's totally normal!

But I wax it, about once a month. Salon until you're used to it, then a glass of wine to numb the pain and wax strips at home.

Inforthelonghaul · 25/01/2020 20:24

It’s absolutely fine and cream can’t and won’t affect regrowth. shaving would make the ends feel blunter but that’s all. Remember that as you age they will almost certainly become more noticeable and darker anyway and after menopause facial hair takes on a life of its own. Either way it’s yours to leave or remove as you choose.

VerbenaGirl · 25/01/2020 20:25

IPL is a good solution. I’ve got an at home machine and do everything with it.

stripeypillowcase · 25/01/2020 20:25

totally normal
I use a lady shaver as I react badly to hair removal cream. it's just part of the weekly routine.

CameronG · 25/01/2020 20:27

I cannot imagine for a single second why you wouldn’t remove it Hmm it looks dreadful.

Wax once a month. Takes two mins.

Shallwedothis · 25/01/2020 20:28

It's a myth that shaving makes hair grow back thicker. I laser mine and my OH has no idea because I havent bothered to tell him. He thinks all the beauty things I do are weird because he's a man and doesnt have to worry about all that crap

formerbabe · 25/01/2020 20:28

Hair removing cream doesn't seem to give a long lasting effect imo...leaves me stubble after a couple of days.

I buy wax strips from the pound shop and do it myself. Cheap and takes seconds. Threading is good but painful!

Cornettoninja · 25/01/2020 20:33

It’s got literally nothing to do with him.

Roll your eyes at him and put the telly on.

Trafalger · 25/01/2020 20:36

I have my upper lip threaded. It's fair hair but in certain lights it is noticable. It wont grow back stubbly your husband is talking shit.

Pop2017 · 25/01/2020 20:37

Thanks all. Up until a while ago what hair I had there as barely noticeable. It was very blonde but it seems to have got thicker and slightly darker in places 😩 I am only 28!

I need to try waxing. Hair removal cream isn’t the best. Usually leaves me sore and tender around the lip for a few days!!

Totally normal, and yes it is a myth it will grow back thicker. Personally I wouldn’t wax it, your skin’s so much thinner I’ve know a few friends get quite bad grazing from taking the top layer of skin off.

If you can cope with the pain threading is amazing for facial hair. I can’t but it was the least recovery time I’ve found and had great results.

JanuaryJones20 · 25/01/2020 20:39

*so much thinner on your face

CatEnabler · 25/01/2020 20:39

Neet or Veet upper lip kit.... Painless

Beamur · 25/01/2020 20:40

Wax.
Regrowth is barely noticeable and not at all stubbly.

BentNeckLady · 25/01/2020 20:42

You need an epi stick op.

It’s normal to remove upper lip hair.

His reaction is abnormal however. A bit OTT. It almost sounds like he’s jealous/annoyed that you’re grooming yourself? In my opinion this situation is no reason to go mad or call you stupid etc.

Don’t use hair removal cream though, the risk of chemical burns puts me off. Better to wax or pluck.

Thelnebriati · 25/01/2020 20:44

Another vote for the pound shop waxing strips. I've got sensitive skin but can use them on my face with no problem.

Coffeeisnecessary · 25/01/2020 20:45

Threading is brilliant as it doesn't hurt the skin like waxing can.

Coffeeisnecessary · 25/01/2020 20:46

And threading upper lip is so cheap too, most places do walk ins and its only £3 or something, once a month max.

AmbitiousHalibut · 25/01/2020 20:46

A fan of threading over here. Definitely do it if it makes you feel better.

Longdistance · 25/01/2020 20:51

Another for threading. My tash is downy anc j can feel the difference straight away.

brentwoodbaby · 25/01/2020 20:55

Wax once every 6 weeks. Can't handle threading- makes my eyes water just thinking about it Shock

pinklillie · 25/01/2020 20:57

Bentnecklady how does that work? I have some on my chin well neck area that I'm constantly tweezing. Need something that won't cause ingrown hairs as I keep making a mess of it

MoonlightMistletoe · 25/01/2020 20:58

I thread mine it lasts longer and wax or creams irritate my skin. I learnt to do my lip and eyebrows myself from a YouTube video.
