To think it’s disgusting when checkout staff lick their fingers to open the bags???

As above. I absolutely hate this when I go shopping. I rarely forget my bags, but on the occasion I do and I need to buy a bag, it drives me up the wall when the staff members licks their thumb, opens the bag and proceeds to handle my food.

I was in a bakers recently and bought a sausage roll and the guy serving licked his finger to open the paper bag. I was nearly sick and thought how disgusting is that. If you’ll do that blatantly in front of me, I dread to think how low your hygiene standards when there’s no one there.

Was talking to my friend about it the other and she said the same, she finds it disgusting too. She said “They may as well spit on you. You don’t want any if they’d saliva on your stuff” and I quite agree.

Surely we’re not the only ones to think that?

If I was the owner of a business I would discipline staff if they done that!

@Jennywren2978 But how often do you think those self-serve checkout screens are cleaned?

I used to regularly visit a Costa where one staff member, on getting a spoon to go on the saucer, would always pick one out of the container under the counter and then wipe the curved part of the spoon in between their bare fingers. It made me go "eww!" Presumably the sounds go into the container having been washed with hot water. Therefore are clean. Why the staff member thought it okay to then rub their fingers over it, I don't know. I asked for a new spoon, every time. I think it was a habit, but what a bad habit!

It’s similar to customers putting £notes into their mouths before handing then to the cashier. Works both ways really, doesn’t it?

As a teen I used to work at the Entertainer (briefly), customers would hand you toys at the till drenched in their child’s saliva, then take offence if you weren’t beaming in excitement to touch it! So vile. Why would you let your child put unpaid goods in their mouth - at the very least you don’t know whether that toy has previously been dropped on the floor, or even in another child’s mouth!

What do people who won't sit on a toilet seat think is actually think is going to happen to them if they sit down?

DS used to work in McDonalds and once served a teenager who had both hands stuffed down the front of his joggers, juggling his bits.
He removed hands, sniffed em and handed DS a tenner.

Public toilets are filthy and smelly, I would only use one out of sheer desperation - I don’t have a weak bladder. I won’t sit on a public toilet, I’d cover it with toilet roll; I don’t want your piss remnants on my bare legs/bum thanks. I’ve even seen skid marks and blood stains on seats before, I care about my own personal hygiene too much to sit on a bare public toilet seat.

Actually in my workplace they are cleaned several times a day. The self scan staff are expected to keep the scanners and surrounds clean. We have cleaning spray and blue paper to do this. We arent that useless!

Chocowoka · 23/01/2020 22:52

@Rachelfromfriends

That’s exactly why I don’t sit on public toilets either. Saves me writing why. Exactly this

@Willow2017 Not saying retail staff are useless! But unless the screens cleaned after every customer, you can't guarantee that the last ten people haven't picked their nose/scratched their arse/put the chain on their bike back on/picked up their dog's poo in a bag.

What I'm saying is, they've still got germs of their own.
