to be really upset about SW?

Total first world problem, but I've been really consistent with my diet and have followed SW religiously. Yet, tonight I have haulled arse to the group, with my screaming 10 week old, and have put on 1.5lbs. I'm really pissed off, I hate my post-partum body. I've been out walking and as active as possible with a baby strapped to me for most of every day. I've been really "good", and I've still gained weight.

AIBU to ditch SW?

Well I know when you're due/on your period, your weight can fluctuate and a gain of 10lbs wouldn't be out of the ordinary for some members (I used to do the weigh in group), so I don't even want to imagine what's happening with your body 10 weeks after giving birth! You'll probably have a great loss next week, stick with it, xXx

SuddenArborealStop · 22/01/2020 20:19

Are you breastfeeding, I couldn't lose an ounce till I stopped

SquareAsABlock · 22/01/2020 20:19

Firstly, is there a reason why you're dieting when you have a very young baby? It seems somewhat unnecessary to be weighing and watching what you eat so soon after having a baby.

Secondly, are you breastfeeding? That caused me to put on a few pounds despite getting out and about.

TidyDancer · 22/01/2020 20:19

SW is hideous for teaching 'good' eating so I would ditch it anyway personally. You're better off using MyFitnessPal to count calories.

Fantababy · 22/01/2020 20:21

10 weeks?! Give yourself a break! You're doing well to be out and about with the baby in a sling. They say 9 months on, 9 months off so take the pressure off yourself a little.

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 22/01/2020 20:25

Yes to breastfeeding (almost constantly! But that's fine as I enjoy it). No to periods - has yet to raise it's ugly head. Weirdly I was convinced I had lost weight as my clothes are looser. I'm dieting because I hate the way I look and I don't feel like me. I couldn't exercise as much as normal during pregnancy due to SIJ dysfunction and had to give up running due to the boarding in 2nd trimester.

TillyTheTiger · 22/01/2020 20:27

Ditch SW. I've done it five times, it's always 'worked' but I've regained the weight every time as it's unsustainable. Spend the money on an exercise class instead.
Give yourself a break, your body has done an incredible miraculous thing! I'm 14 weeks PP and 2.5st overweight with a VERY wobbly belly but I'm trying to focus on my fitness and feeling healthier, and every time I feel like crap about my body I look at the little bundle of absolute perfection that is my precious second-born and remind myself I'm a bloody goddess for bringing her into the world, so I'm leaving the scales alone!

AppleKatie · 22/01/2020 20:28

Give it time. 1 week isn’t reflective of anything. Particularly at 10 weeks PP.

SquareAsABlock · 22/01/2020 20:38

@St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen

With the best of wishes, I dont think this is healthy. It's perfectly normal to feel like you dont recognise yourself physically (or mentally) after having a baby, but jumping into fad diets like SW is not the answer. Keep away from the scales for a few months, you need to eat a bit more when breastfeeding otherwise you'll get wiped out! Just continue walking and doing exercises at your own pace, you will get there eventually.

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 22/01/2020 20:38

@TillyTheTiger intellectually I know you are entirely right about the miraculous body (my second too, congrats). Emotionally though, I look at my roughly, scarred abdomen and I want to cry.

My baby is 31 and i am still trying to loose the belly

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 22/01/2020 20:41

@SquareAsABlock thank you. I've never had a particularly confident attitude to my weight. Interesting that so many people don't rate SW. I've told the instructor person I'm not coming back

Sizeofalentil · 22/01/2020 20:41

If you feel thinner, you probably are.

When I did sw when bf I had 1lb loss per week for three weeks, then I'd gain 2lbs, but then lose 4lbs.

Look at it month by month instead of week by week. Especially when bf.

You might have just had one large boob that day.

SquareAsABlock · 22/01/2020 20:50

@St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen, please dont judge yourself or your body. It may feel like it looks 'awful' now, but it's not as bad as you think and it will naturally find its balance again anyway. Ten weeks is absolutely nothing in terms of having a baby, for you both. Please dont get yourself into a bad place because you're struggling with these changes. Have you joined a baby or breastfeeding group? Other mums going through these things would be a much better meet up for you than somewhere like SW at the moment.

APeakyBlinder · 22/01/2020 20:55

I imagine you are losing weight but breastfeeding is skewing the result on the scales- when I was feeding I could see a noticeable difference on the scales pre/post feed! Try not to concentrate on what the scales say and focus on inch loss instead

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 22/01/2020 20:57

@SquareAsABlock, yes I go to a few mum&baby and BF groups. Almost the Mums look slim and lovely with swishy hair! But I am ditching SW; it's not worth dragging DBaby out during the witching hour just to be upset

DesLynamsMoustache · 22/01/2020 20:59

I honestly don't understand how SW works as it seems there's a lot of 'free' stuff that would make me gain a shitload of weight if I consumed it as I liked! Pasta for instance, I don't understand how that's 'free' as I could eat bowlfuls of the stuff. No way would I lose weight with free rein on their 'free' foods.

SquareAsABlock · 22/01/2020 21:02

Good, be a bit kinder to yourself. Took 9 months to grow your lovely baby, it doesn't take 9 weeks to fix a post baby belly. Hide those bloody scales for at least a few months.

Congratulations on your baby Smile.

St0pTryingT0MakeFetchHappen · 22/01/2020 21:05

@APeakyBlinder certainly feels like it at 4am after DS's and if chunk of sleep. The boobs are like bowling balls.

@SquareAsABlock thanks - he's lovely, as is his big bro Smile

A third of your plate has to be 'speed' foods, so most fruit or vegetables.

They do say to have a wide range of foods and not just eat the same thing over and over.

ColdWinterChild · 22/01/2020 21:08

It's expensive bullshit not far off a pyramid scheme

There are so many sensible plans out there for free

Fanniesyeraunt · 22/01/2020 21:12

I don’t think you should be allowed to join Slimming clubs after having a baby 10 weeks ago! You’re body will be adjusting slowly by itself.

Try to eat healthily anyway as it’ll be better for your baby and your mood. Get out with your baby in the pram for a bit each day if you can.

Sod the diet for now and just enjoy your baby!

WifOfBif · 22/01/2020 21:13

Have a look at rebelfit on facebook. Explains quite clearly why SW doesn’t work - only 5% of its members keep the weight off for five years or more. They make money from people rejoining again and again.

I agree something like MFP is much better x

MumW · 22/01/2020 21:14

10 weeks, especially when breastfeeding, is too soon to be dieting.

Eat a sensible, health diet and concentrate on your baby. Your body took nine months to grow a baby so it is unreasonable to expect your body to pop back in a matter of weeks. Give your metabolism a chance to readjust.

If you are managing a reasonably health diet and get out most days, then you are doing extremely well. At 10 weeks, I was an emotional wreck, sleep deprived and lucky to manage to eat anything other than biscuits.

Are there any baby yoga/fitness or aquanatal classes in your area?
