What is wrong with this fool? Apparently in James Delingpole's podcast, heavy sigh, he criticises Sam Mendes for featuring a Sikh soldier in WW1 film. Ever heard of the British Empire, Laurence? How many Indians died for Britain? AIBU to say LF is being deliberately divisive and provocative and evidently doing his own publicity?

Noooo I love Bob. Lozza is shocking. Seriously. Not even mediocre.

hueyblue · 22/01/2020 09:17

So whose opinion do we think was shouted down here?

I am sure she thought he'd shut up straight away and tow the line as soon as she called him a privileged white male. Must have been quite a shock for her that he didn't acquiesce.

Ktick · 22/01/2020 09:43

The thing is that for all those complaining about tokenism, you don't know the exact details of how members from the commonwealth fought during this period. Every 6th soldier was from India so showing an Indian soldier just once is massively over representing the efforts of white soldiers. I did not view it as tokenism to include the Indian soldier and really if they had expanded on the reason why he was there, I feel like that would have only been included to appease those viewers who get pissy about war memorials for ethnic minority soldiers. His story didn't have to be expanded on because the vast majority of us know that the efforts of commonwealth soldiers probably won us the war. Singling him out to expand on his story because people like Lawrence Fox and Amanduh can't fathom just how much commonwealth soldiers were part of the furniture during that period would be would be like using the film as a history lesson to teach us something we alewady know but that seems to have eluded many here.

OrangeCinnamon · 22/01/2020 09:45

Yes I'm sure you are sure @hueyblue!

yes, it must have been a shock for her, poor thing.

She was probably shocked at the result of the referendum and then shocked again at the result of the 2019 election.

Probably more shocks to come as people begin to longer slink away at the first accusation of non existent racism or other associated shite like accusations of cultural appropriation.

She will be more shocked than a very shocked thing.

chomalungma · 22/01/2020 10:16

She did not accuse him of racism. What do people think the conversation they had was about?

IhateBoswell · 22/01/2020 10:19

He also didn't claim there was no racism in this country either.

OrangeCinnamon · 22/01/2020 10:28

@IhateBoswell who is saying he did then?

And I digress!
As you were....

OrangeCinnamon, posters on Mumsnet, Twitter...

Gilead · 22/01/2020 10:41

Funny, all those people supporting this idiot are those who complain when celebrities support political causes they disagree with.

Womenwotlunch · 22/01/2020 10:43

It is important for people to understand why some from ethnic minorities think that their contribution to the war efforts is deliberately ignored or erased
They would then understand why people from India ,,West Africa and the Caribbean choose to live in England which they regard as their home.
So all these right wing bigots who go on about how their grandfathers , great uncles fought in the war and how they don’t want immigrants over here ,should remember that the forefathers of these immigrants probably fought and helped Britain win the war.

He is far from being an idiot.

He was bang on to bite back at this "lecturer".

He was bang on to laugh at the idea of white privilege.

He is bang on to uphold the biological fact that men cannot become women and that the only losers in that particular shitshow will be biological women-or CIS as we're supposed to refer to ourselves.

He is bang on to point out that the authorities were frightend to stop the Pakistani grroming gangs for fear of being accussed of racism.

He is bang on to pour derision on the silly woman-Shami- who tried to tell him off for supporting the only male on the Labour leadership shortlist for no other reason than that he is a man.

Anyone who disagrees with any of these points is no doubt driven by an agenda and needs to give their collective head a wobble.

Of course, they won't-they'll howl away-but less and less people are listening to them. Have I done a survey? Yes, I have and eight out of ten cats and people agree with me so wipe that to the professionally offended nostrils!

IcedPurple · 22/01/2020 11:07

Laurence Fox must be beside himself with glee over all this.

2 weeks ago he was just a barely B list posh actor and wannabe rock star who most people had never heard of. Now, he'll all over the media. He's loving this.

Personally, I think he was correct about Maya and correct on QT, but overall he seems like a bog standard 'PC gone mad' tosser. Stopped clocks and all that.

IcedPurple · 22/01/2020 11:10

I just think he's yummy - sorry!!!! There is just something about him.

The only reason I even vaguely knew he is was before all this kicked off was because several years ago, when a friend and I were discussing our celeb fantasies (as you do) she mentioned him. So I googled him and was quite surprised to find a fairly average looking posh bloke. Though he is really tall which is always attractive.

Anyway, back to wokishness.....

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 22/01/2020 11:10

On the podcast he was bragging aboutt not being employed by the BBC because his face didn't fit.
One week later...

changedname133 · 22/01/2020 11:24

I agree that Laurence Fox must be loving this, it's all free publicity for him. Before this furore, I didn't know that he was a wannabe celebrity. I think that, for those of you saying he was spot on, no he wasn't and he was an idiot for saying to a BAME person that talk about 'white privilege' is getting boring.

But clearly what he said struck a chord with a lot of white people in deprived areas do feel insulted at hearing about 'white privilege' when they don't feel any privilege at all.

I think this debate is going in circles as both sides dig their heals in.

OrangeCinnamon · 22/01/2020 11:26

Can't believe the amount of people going on about the professionally offended on here being err professionally offended.!

Wink

I do wonder if we would have such a hysterical reaction to the lecturer if LF had been talking about for example the benefit bashing in the press aimed at people in certain deprived areas.

And he said his 'but its not benefit bashing we are a lovely country blah blah"

And she said Exactly what she replied on QT ...my concern is ...white priveleged male etc

Would we have this hysteria ?

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 22/01/2020 12:26

That's a bit bizarre isn't it-along the lines of -if my aunt had had balls, she would have been my uncle argument! :)
