So self conscious about my facial hair.
Can anyone give me some tips?

How do you keep on top of yours?
Rashes, big red marks, burning not welcome.... Lol

Epilate my whole face and neck every morning

Elouera · 18/01/2020 22:04

Sorry to hear this. Have you been checked for PCOS and hormone levels are normal?

I'd recommend buying a home IPL laser. You can use it at home and it will eventually stop the hair growth. Otherwise, laser at a salon- not as convenient, but works quicker as much stronger.

I thread eyebrows, chin and upper lip regularly and wax sides of face.

I previously had all my face threaded which looked great but hurt.

The best way to reduce pain is to cover your face in EMLA which is an over the counter numbing cream. Makes a huge difference.

chocolatespiders · 18/01/2020 22:08

Have you tried a Philips Lumea?

Missingmemarbles · 18/01/2020 22:23

After many years of trying everything from creams, plucking, bleaching, laser and electrolysis I have given up and just shave! I have pcos. I use a thick moisturiser first then shave the problem areas once every 2 to 3 days. Works a treat!

Annafs · 18/01/2020 22:23

I get my face waxed fairly regularly and have an epilator at home for when I cba and just want to go over my moustache before work! I’ve been waxing since I was about 13 and my skin has got used to it over the years so I don’t get red or bumpy spots. I do use aloe Vera straight after however and my waxing lady runs an ice cube over my face when she’s done to cool it down.

picklemepopcorn · 18/01/2020 22:31

How old are you? I'm 50 and have decided that plucking of any type just gives me spots when the hairs push through again. Shaving involves plastic, and is a bit harsh on the skin.

So now I just trim with nail scissors. Interestingly, i found a longer hair that was dark at the tip and white near the roots. So for me at least, it's better to snip so I don't get dark tips.

ViciousJackdaw · 18/01/2020 22:36

I just shave it too. I use Dermol cream for washing and moisturising anyway so just shave with a layer of that on my face every couple of mornings. Takes a minute.

I did read a good thread recently in S&B about these little dermaplaning razor things - am tempted to give them a try. I'll go and find the thread...

longearedbat · 18/01/2020 22:39

I have a hairy face because I'm an old bearded lady, well, I would be if I didn't shave. However, I have recently discovered these little battery operated electric facial shavers (loads on Amazon, which is where I got mine) and it's absolutely brilliant; leaves my skin lovely and smooth, no rash, no danger of nicks, can use it anywhere and very quick. Quick zip over every morning and it's done. Wonderful on holiday too. I used to spend ages plucking, but it was just taking longer and longer and I've got better things to do. They are not expensive either.

silencebeforethebleeps · 18/01/2020 22:40

I pluck for about 10 minutes a day. Waxing irritates, Lumea doesnt work, shaving is fine for cheeks but leaves upper lip and chin in a state. I've accepted that this is my routine now, but I dread getting stuck in hospital/a hotel room with bad lighting/friend's house with no mirror because I can't miss a day!

SunshineCake · 18/01/2020 22:41

Jj

yogo · 18/01/2020 22:46

Hollywood Browzer, so satisfying,

PenCreed · 18/01/2020 22:50

I got a Lumea in December and it's already starting to reduce my facial hair. The wee beard I can sprout very quickly is getting smaller! It wasn't cheap but I'm very glad I bought it.

lamalama · 18/01/2020 22:52

@PenCreed what model did you buy? Does it leave your skin red or irritated?

jewel1968 · 18/01/2020 22:56

I have had all the blood tests you can imagine which didn't show anything. GP prescribed Vaniqa cream. Significant reduction in growth!!!

I understand some people have trouble getting GP to prescribe because of cost (circa £60 a tube) but my GP was fine. You still have to remove hair with plucking or shaving but they just don't grow back with anywhere near the strength iykwim.

percheron67 · 18/01/2020 22:57

Can the Lumea be successfully used by diabetics?

silencebeforethebleeps · 18/01/2020 22:58

Ah yes I forgot - tried Vaniqa too. Didn't do anything for me.

jewel1968 · 18/01/2020 22:58

GP also mentioned that lumea would not be as effective for me because of hair colour but also he said there was a risk if scarring

Ivysaurus · 18/01/2020 23:00

Ugh I hate this I'm early 30s and I have high testosterone levels resulting in hair on my neck/chin ☹️ I pluck them but sometimes can feel them and wonder if anyone sees them at work etc

Snowangel23 · 18/01/2020 23:03

After years of plucking/epilating I got a Braun ipl machine in December. It's already slowing and reducing the growth. I did also start shaving at the time I started using it (lots of makes recommend shaving, Braun and Phillips say you can use your normal hair removal method but I thought it may still help the process) and couldn't believe how easy and effective it was compared to plucking and epilating!
Still glad I've got the ipl machine but wish I'd tried shaving sooner!

Snowangel23 · 18/01/2020 23:05

Just to add, IPL machines work best on fair skin, dark hair so obviously may be of no help.

ohohohmerrychristmas · 18/01/2020 23:07

I just shave as well (PCOS), just a normal razor and gentle face wash . Tried waxing but that was brutal and made me look like I’d been slapped around the face .

I’ve never been offered vaniqa (or indeed any treatment for PCOS symptoms) but will ask, it’s awful in the evening when I get all stubbly again !

PenCreed · 18/01/2020 23:15

I got the cheaper Lumea, as it was on offer so was £200 not £350/400. No red marks! I’m dark haired with very fair skin, so an ideal IPL type apparently. I’ve been doing my underarms too - already a significant reduction there.

Mixitupalot · 18/01/2020 23:17

Dermaplanning is your fiend!! Please don’t shave, surely that makes it worse?
