So self conscious about my facial hair.
Can anyone give me some tips?

How do you keep on top of yours?
Rashes, big red marks, burning not welcome.... Lol

I had pcos all my life and always shaved, not every day as I didn’t always need it.

Mummoomoocow · 18/01/2020 23:28

Threads like these always make me wonder if this is just some marketing ploy by those brands mentioned. Why would you spend £200-300 on a machine that you've gotta learn to do yourself when you can take advantage of groupon/wow her/whatever the latest voucher business for professionally done quick and strong lasers?

£40 to get your lip and chin sorted, why wouldn't you take advantage of that

NewName54321 · 18/01/2020 23:38

Bear in mind that some of the systems mentioned only work effectively on dark hair.

Ginger153 · 19/01/2020 00:27

I'm another lumea fan and recent convert. I worked out what I spend on waxing in a year (not my face bit other bits thoug) and buying one (on offer) made sense for me. Agreed though that if you have the time to go to a salon, and can get a group on voucher then that makes sense too. I'm lucky that my face hair is limited just now but looking at my mum I know what's ahead so I've started zapping what I do have already and I'm prepared to keep it up in the comfort of my own home.

40somethingJBJ · 19/01/2020 00:50

I use s JML perfect touch and it’s great

NoFucksImAQueen · 19/01/2020 08:31

@Mummoomoocow theres nothing to learn. You just put it on your face at whatever strength you chose and push the button. I did do the professional route, i had to go 2 weekly and it took around 12 sessions but the results were great... until 2 months later and it had all come back. I'd have been paying £20 every 2-4 weeks if I wanted it to stay gone so I've bought a lumea because the amount of flashes means I can do my legs and underarms too and it will will last me for years and years without having to go out the house and in the long run it's far cheaper

Snowangel23 · 19/01/2020 08:36

@Mummoomoocow I don't feel comfortable in salons and I've never used groupon or wowcher so wouldn't have even thought of it.

24hourshomeedderandcarer · 19/01/2020 08:46

i have severe PCOS and need to shave my face twice a day as my hair growth is that bad

i dont shave anywhere else as its point less as it will be back with in 12 hours so i havent shaved for years

but i do my face and neck as i feel it itching and it interferes with my beauty routine(i do diy facials sessions daily and use a micro roller)

i bought a nono a few years back

bloody dear but helped way better than normal shaving

jewel1968 · 19/01/2020 11:59

You could (should?) go to GP. I was tested for PCOS, excess testosterone etc... but all came back negative. The likely cause is therefore my skin reaching more sensitively to normal levels of testosterone. That might be why vaniqa works for me as it works directly on the skin. If you Google the NICE guidelines for hirsutism you will see what a GP can do. My GP read the guidelines with me. If Vaniqa didn't work there were other things to try.

jewel1968 · 19/01/2020 12:00

*reacting more sensitively..,...

BorneoBabe · 19/01/2020 12:53

I know people tout home devices like the Lumea on here, but they are too weak for long lasting results, in my experience. Get proper medical grade laser hair removal. Candela or Cynosure are the two best brands.

If you're just doing your face, you could probably get a course of treatments for the same price range as the Lumea and it will last much, much longer.

PenCreed · 19/01/2020 13:36

I was saving up for laser when the Lumea offer came up, and the reviews were so positive that I thought I'd give it a try. It has the additional merit of being convenient - I don't have to work out what laser place I trust and make regular appointments, I can just do it in 5 minutes in my bedroom. And once I'd bought it, I thought I may as well start doing other areas that I probably wouldn't have paid for laser on (underarms for one). The time saving is definite bonus, I have enough to do without having to go to appointments every two weeks! In a year or so if I really still haven't seen the difference, then I'll just have to suck it up and have my beard lasered off.

Sofast · 19/01/2020 14:00

I use sensitive hair removal cream and pluck the strong strays

separatebeds · 21/01/2020 10:11

Tria (home laser thing) has been a total game changer. I have the smaller device for facial hair to do my upper lip. I spent year procrastinating over getting one as was worried it might scar or not work. Cost £160 so was a big outlay but I would not be with out it now.

Hadtoask · 21/01/2020 10:33

If you have light skin and dark hair then IPL works extremely well. I don’t know about home kits but definitely salon treatments work.
