Does anyone else’s husband do this?

This is our granola cereal. So high up nobody in the house can reach it without a ladder. This isn’t the only thing but I thought it is a good example!

Does anyone else’s husband do this?
OP posts:
PrtScn · 17/01/2020 20:49

Yes, it's where he "hides" his junk food. Sometimes I get the step ladder out and put a half eaten tub of pringles back just to spite him.

LuluJakey1 · 17/01/2020 20:49

We had a wall of ceiling to floor units fitted in our utility room.He put all the laundry stuff on the top shelf at the back! He could reach it and didn't believe I couldn't. Had no grasp of the concept of putting stuff you use all the time where you can easily get to it.

74NewStreet · 17/01/2020 20:50

He just doesn’t want to share.

swapsicles · 17/01/2020 20:51

I try not to do this to DD as she's still shorter than me at 17 but occasionally she'll ask me to get her something and I presume she's lazy but then realise she can't reach!
Also as we're both short we only really have useable space in half our kitchen cupboards!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 17/01/2020 20:53

My husband is only two and a half inches taller than me. So, no top shelf traumas for us.

tweedler · 17/01/2020 20:53

When my parents married in the 70's, my 6'4 dad turned up to the ceremony in 3.5" heels. Mum is 5'4.

DH is slightly shorter than me so no issues like OP's but this is what happened when I asked him to make sandwiches, and cut the ham as it was too big for the bread.

NotMeNoNo · 17/01/2020 20:54

Yes, he’s sixteen inches taller than me at 6’6. I can hide things from him on the bottom shelves of cabinets though.

CakeAndGin · 17/01/2020 20:57

Yes! But he kinda has to to actually use the space in the kitchen cupboards. When we get the kitchen done I want one of those sliding ladders (think the library in the beauty and the beast) along a bank of floor to ceiling cupboards. Storage space and actually being able to access everything = living the dream.

In his defence though, he’s has to stoop in the shower (and most showers) because people rarely take height into account when fitting showers that are raised anyway.

iolaus · 17/01/2020 20:59

Some stuff is too high for me to reach without climbing. I usually get DH or DS(16) to get it down for me, save me bringing a chair over to climb on

MrsDilligaf · 17/01/2020 21:00

@tweedler is your DH still breathing? Grin

VodselForDinner · 17/01/2020 21:02

When I had Venetian blinds my DH cut all of the pull strings so short I couldn’t reach them

Mine did the exact same thing! I was so annoyed! Plus, we had four blinds across our patio doors and he cut each of the pull strings to different lengths. It just looked ridiculous.

Monetmoney · 17/01/2020 21:02

Yes!! I'm sure he deliberately puts biscuits on the top shelves where I can't even see them let alone reach them Grin he accidentally opens the windows too far for me to reach to close them too!

reallyrandomwords · 17/01/2020 21:05

Nah... bagged myself a short arse... lol

MoaningMinniee · 17/01/2020 21:05

Now that I am the shortest person in the household I am loving being the only person who can see what's in the lower cupboards and shelves of the kitchen fridge and storage zones!

speakout · 17/01/2020 21:06

I do that with my Granola.

Strategicchoring · 17/01/2020 21:06

We had a mirror and some pictures put up just before Christmas. I was out and dh and the handyman guy worked together. Dh is just under 6 ft4 and all the pictures ended up ridiculously high up the wall, and I can only see my forehead in the mirror above the sink Hmm. Same thing happened with our kitchen. The work surfaces (and stove top) are so high I have to stand on a step to use my tallest stock pot.

nokidshere · 17/01/2020 21:06

DH is 6ft6, DS1 is 6ft1 and DS2 6ft4. I spend half my life asking them to get stuff for me because they naturally put things at their own eye level. I'm 5ft2.

We have been married for 36yrs and he still huffs and puffs when he has to get up and reach something for me. I used to get snappy but now I just ask and shrug my shoulders.

StarlightLady · 17/01/2020 21:08

I haven’t got one of those (husband)!

TatianaLarina · 17/01/2020 21:08

Well I’m 5’11 so most things DH can reach so can I.

Our kitchen cupboards do go up quite high so there’s a stool in the kitchen for getting to the top shelves.

A friend of mine said ‘this is a tall person’s kitchen’. 🤓

Vanhi · 17/01/2020 21:12

And this is why you should go out with men the same height as you. Actually, my OH is a couple of inches taller than me but I have slightly longer arms and therefore our reach is roughly the same.

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 17/01/2020 21:17

Yes this happens to me. DH puts things up very high. I cannot reach the first aid kit or light bulbs or a whole load of art and craft for the dc not too bothered about that though

InsertFunnyUsername · 17/01/2020 21:22

My DP hung a mirror in our hallway, the tosser did it at his 6"4 height. I am 5"3. I can see 2cm of my forehead.

AudTheDeepMinded · 17/01/2020 21:25

We have a window where the sink is. The top half opens by swinging out from the horizontal midpoint. Because of the sink in the way I can't reach the handle to pull it shut if it's beyond a certain point. However I have learnt that a soup ladle is just right for reaching out far enough and hooking over the handle to tug the window shut! (but yes, I have asked DH numerous times not to leave it so wide as I can't reach!)

terriblyangryattimes · 17/01/2020 21:26

Yes but not on purpose. It just doesn't occur to him that I can't reach things... I'm over a foot shorter than him so it's no surprise 🙄

Cauliflowerpower · 17/01/2020 21:30

No! Why just why?
