MIL came to look after DD for 1 day whilst I was at work (childminder on holiday). I got home to find nappy on back to front, baby sitting in poo, and she told me that she had liked drinking her tea (DD is 9.5 months!) They stayed the weekend, and MIL had cheek to tell me I was a worrier and I should relax and go with the flow. I told her to butt out - but DH thinks I am being unreasonable...whats the opinion out there!!

I wouldn't worry about the Nappy, but i'd be PO about the tea.
Children under 2 should NOT be drinking tea.

I agree that it's a generational thing.

For the uninitiated about disposable nappies, easy to do back to front (my mum who had 3 kids always this this with DS!).

The pooey nappy, well, perhaps it just happened and she has a decreased sense of smell (happens with age).

The tea thing is also generational. I think in the past this was commonly given to babies. I believe that in some cultures this is still done (have an Indian friend who gives her children, ages 3 and 1, very milky tea.

Just be specific about absolute dos and don't , and be willing to forgive a bit. Otherwise, agree with others that you should just use other childcare.

fifi, she managed to get your DH to child rearing age without killing him off so she cant be that bad, and she had your children for the weekend, id forgive, almost anything!! Explain that you really dont want her to have tea, tell her why, that it can lead to iron deficiency if she has too much and the caffiene is a bad thing too. Just say you would rather her not have the tea. Think you was quite rude to tell MIL to butt out after she did you a favour like that. I wouldnt want my DD to have tea either, so i would make that clear. Although i dont think she is going to have any long term effects from one swig. My mum cannot believe i dont give dd (now 2) tea, but why would i?? I just said, she doesnt like it
