In thinking KFC vegan options are pointless?

Bored of my newly vegan friends posting photos on social media of these bloody chickenless chicken burgers.

I think if you’re buying from KFC you are literally lining the pockets of mass chicken killers and with the profit they make they will invest in more chickens to kill.

I’d far rather eat free range, well cared for meat rarely than that shite every weekend.

AIBU?

I'd like it if they took dairy out of their batter so I can eat it. Not sure vegans will be on board with vegan batter around a chicken though Grin

tequilasunrises · 16/01/2020 19:13

@gaffamate no I doubt they would Grin

"I’d far rather eat free range, well cared for meat rarely than that shite every weekend"

Then don't? If you don't eat KFC anyway why do you care what they sell?

RightEarlobeBreath · 16/01/2020 19:14

Vegan posturing is the new thing.

Namestranger · 16/01/2020 19:14

I like them because it fills the gap that used to be a Big Mac on a Friday night after the pub. Will that do?

Bubblysqueak · 16/01/2020 19:15

gaffamate I was thinking exactly the same!

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2020 19:16

I think if you’re buying from KFC you are literally lining the pockets of mass chicken killers and with the profit they make they will invest in more chickens to kill.

If those burgers are making a big profit, won’t they make more of them? If more people choose the veggie option, less chicken will be killed.

MiseryChops · 16/01/2020 19:16

I said this exact thing last week at work.

If you care for animals enough to want to be vegan then why would you spend money in a place that makes millions of animals death.

ALSO....

Can you REALLY trust the people who work there NOT to cook your vegan food in and around the meat?
Nope

doritosdip · 16/01/2020 19:16

Yanbu. Same with McDonalds vegan item which looks gross. The Costa vegan ham and cheeZe (vegan cheese comes with a Z apparently) is also Hmm

I've read reviews and it's apparently Quorn "chicken" fillet coated in the KFC spices. Doesn't fit the bun properly because it's not a special size custom ordered for KFC

WhatsTheLatest · 16/01/2020 19:18

I said to my staunch vegan friend last week 'are you going to try the KFC meatless burger ' but she said she would never buy anything from a company that treats animals like they do. So I can imagine a lot still won't buy their food due to their alleged lack of ethics

doritosdip · 16/01/2020 19:18

I remember reading the Burger King plant based burger isn't suitable for vegans or veggies. It's like what's the point of not going all the way and creating it totally vegan or veggie?

MashedSpud · 16/01/2020 19:21

I’m vegetarian and I wouldn’t set foot in a kfc. You can smell them a mile away.

BobLobLawLLB · 16/01/2020 19:21

Well cared for meat Grin

mrsbyers · 16/01/2020 19:21

It’s designed for meat eaters that want to reduce consumption and have the odd meat free day - same as most of the fast food options launched

Kanga83 · 16/01/2020 19:22

I'm vegan. Not a chance in hell I'd eat anything vegan there. Anyone that cares about animal welfare only need to read up on KFC.

SisterAgatha · 16/01/2020 19:24

I always thought it was if you are having a take away and have a vegan friend so there are options for everyone. This has kind of shown me that I don’t understand the extent of the problem. I don’t eat at KFC so I don’t know any of the stuff about cruelty to animals.

Pud2 · 16/01/2020 19:26

Each to their own. If you want to eat ‘well cared meat’, go for it. Personally, I love a KFC as a rare treat and should not be made to feel guilty about that.

cherryblossomgin · 16/01/2020 19:26

I am veggie and DH is a meat eater so now we have the option go to KFC. He always used to refuse because he knew that I would have one option but it's one if his favourites. As a veggie its nice to have options. It is a rare treat for us.

I wont be posting it on sm when we go though that's a bit weird. It is a bit like virtue signalling. I can understand why that is annoying. I think everyone should just eat what they want without having to tell everyone about it.

Grumbley · 16/01/2020 19:27

Don't they also cook it on the same grill as the meat ones? I am sure it said in the bottom of the advert in small print, or might have been another chain. Either way, I agree if you are doing it for ethical reasons that it is strange to want them to profit, but similarly I guess if their plant based menu takes off perhaps they will sell less meat?

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2020 19:29

Don't they also cook it on the same grill as the meat ones?

No, that’s Burger King. You can’t have the child because they’re not veggie.

PurpleDaisies · 16/01/2020 19:30

CHIPS! Not child.

Branleuse · 16/01/2020 19:34

I am not vegan, but i imagine there will definitely be a market here for groups of friends or family who want to go for KFC so the one veggie doesnt have to just eat sweetcorn.

TheFluffiestCat · 16/01/2020 19:49

I'm veggie in real life but doing Veganuary. I only go to fast food places in emergencies. When I do, eg the time that a journey took way longer than planned and KFC was the only thing still open at the motorway services, I would have been glad of an option other than chips and beans. I'd eat the vegan burger if there was nothing better available.

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/01/2020 19:52

The more vegan/veggie options the more people will choose them instead of the meat option - it’s happening and it is reducing meat consumption by literally millions of animals. I quite happily enjoyed my vegan KFC burger and hope it encourages them to make more veggie options. I do my supermarket shop in Tesco which is also technically funding meat production as they sell a lot of meat, but now two half aisles are veggie stuff that were previously meat, so I guess voting with your money helps!

Grumbley · 16/01/2020 19:53

@PurpleDaisies ah thank you, knew it was one of them. The chips at MC Donald's are suitable aren't they, I get confused with the others.
