In thinking KFC vegan options are pointless?

Bored of my newly vegan friends posting photos on social media of these bloody chickenless chicken burgers.

I think if you’re buying from KFC you are literally lining the pockets of mass chicken killers and with the profit they make they will invest in more chickens to kill.

I’d far rather eat free range, well cared for meat rarely than that shite every weekend.

I also generally eat proper homecooked food most of the time, we’re all allowed a cheeky treat. ‘Well cared for meat’ is just a nice name for ‘animal shot in the head/had its throat slit so you could enjoy yourself’. Why not have the non murdered option 🤷🏼‍♀️

The target audience is probably people like my husband and I. We’re plant based but not vegan - I don’t eat meat or dairy because of environmental issues but at the same time, I do still use animal products, such as beeswax lip bam, make up. For me, the vegan burger is plant based so I can eat it but I also don’t particularly mind if it’s grilled with chicken either or that it’s sold by KFC.

Maybe some day I will progress to full vegan, maybe not.

The chips at MC Donald's are suitable aren't they, I get confused with the others.

McDonald’s chips are fine.

I'm vegetarian and am just pleased that I can now go there with my friends. It's the same with the other fast food places, it used to be that we could only go to certain ones which catered to me.

They're not suitable in America.

Greggs vegan steak bake is more popular than their Greg's sausage roll. And sold out.

All this vegan shit is fucking me off right now, because it's too 'the fashion'. Whereas my close friend has been vegan for years and her veganism sits with nicely with me.

Why are people so invested in what vegans eat?

HugsAreMyDrugs · 16/01/2020 20:19

I said to my staunch vegan friend last week 'are you going to try the KFC meatless burger ' but she said she would never buy anything from a company that treats animals like they do. So I can imagine a lot still won't buy their food due to their alleged lack of ethics

Surely the more people that order the vegan options in these places means there is less demand for meat thus the amount of animals being abused and killed goes down?

But each to their own and all that .

I'm all for the increased number of vegan/veggie options around. Every place we buy from, unless it's a dedicated vegan establishment, sells meat. We can't avoid it at the supermarket or restaurants--so what difference does it make if the people eating vegan food choose to do so at KFC/McDonald's rather than buying from Tesco/Lidl/Asda?

At least having a vegan option on the menu increases the chance that someone who otherwise would have eaten meat will choose the vegan option (and works nicely for people like me who like occasional junk food but previously had much more limited options--I'm not vegan but don't eat meat). Every time this choice is made, it financially rewards the supplier for offering a meatless option, which incentivises them to continue to do so, or to even expand their offering (as we've seen with Gregg's). So I think it's a great thing!
