To think my employers are a shower of shits

Who don't know how to manage a fecking thing in their lives.

Where do I start

  1. got told at the interview it was a 35 hour contract - wrong. I'm doing 18 hours on a good week.
  2. two days after the interview, I got told it was £8.63 pay. I was being paid this from when I started to 01/12/19. They reduced it to min wage, with no warning. I queried this with my manager several times, who told me various reasons (it's a tax thing, it's just a mistake etc etc) I went to head office who told me I've had a postcode change 🤨 which prompted my money to be reduced, they haven't acknowledged the fact I was given no warning and I still haven't been paid what I was owed! (Acas told me I'm entitled to the rate of pay of 8.63 until the point I was made aware of their reasoning, a good 8 days pay and they aren't giving me it)
  3. they cancel my shifts with 10 mins notice. Or 4 hours notice if it's a good day!!
  4. I've just found out they've put a colleague of mine on holiday!! Didn't ask her, they've just done it!

I'm thoroughly fed up, working 3 shifts this week and only 1 is 7 hours long. I've looked most places possible for a new job but I'm not having any luck. I've tried speaking to the managers but they don't care and I'm not sure what else I can do 😴

Dickheads.

Actually both my nephews worked for McDonalds ...the branch they were with at least seemed like good fair employers.

OrangeCinnamon · 17/01/2020 17:40

Have you looked on your local council website? Sometimes they have catering roles ?

Runnerduck34 · 17/01/2020 19:33

Sounds absolute rubbish, have you phoned the Acas helpline? On other posts people have said they've been really helpful on employment matters. concentrate on looking for another job, employers like these are unlikely to change.

HeIenaDove · 20/01/2020 17:55

How are things now?

LakieLady · 20/01/2020 18:04

@OrangeCinnamon, DP's niece works for Macdonalds, and they treat her really well.

I was pleasantly surprised, as I imagined them treating staff like crap.

Still the same. I managed to pick up a cleaning shift so I've got that tomorrow then 2 shifts at the weekend.

Is that with new employers? Hopefully can give you the breathing space to look for something else to replace the shitty employers fingers crossed for you

What a shower of shits. I worked hospitality for years and they totally take advantage of you.
Query the reduction in hourly rate with head office.

ByeFeliciaa · 20/01/2020 19:49

@Sexnotgender I did query it and they said it was because I had a postcode change (I did, I changed it myself. One of the numbers was wrong. It was the correct area code so they code tell I hadn't moved)
No unfortunately still within the resturant

Utter twats. Sadly nothing you can do op except keep on looking for a new job. Im in a similar situation except mines a zero hour contract and ive been there 4 years. Everyone who started after me got promoted to 35 hour contracts but because management dislike me i am lucky to get at least a couple of days a week. I know i need a new job like you but i think im entitled to maternity if i eventually ttc so im reluctant to leave. Plus im a massive shithouse lol. Have you got the indeed app? Keep refreshing it maybe twice a day and just aim to apply to 2 or 3 jobs a day. Solidarity because its freaking tough.

Sexnotgender · 20/01/2020 20:48

Could they explain to you in writing exactly what effect your postcode change had. Just saying it was because you changed your postcode isn’t an explanation.
