To boycott Morrison's?

spongejack · 12/01/2020 17:02

It would seem that odd Christmas that Morrison's had a fairly widespread attack on their match and more cards. I accept that this is due to having the same passwords for other sites and I've been "pwned" but Morrison's were aware that they were being targeted and did not email their customers. Our points were used miles away from us, I'm sure nectar have a rule about using a large amount of points away from your "usual" store, it might be if you want to buy an item with your nectar points rather than discount on. Shop but still it's a security measure.

So I've lost £35 not a huge amount but I feel to boycott Morrison's as they have still not emailed their customers warning them what's happening.

They'll lose a lot more than £35 from me, I used to shop there a lot,

Possibly think of a formula for websites that need passwords. Use part of the website name then your own username/email address and password incorporated in it. An example for Mumsnet, go for Mums5net2jennyKey2( not my real password). Then you only need to write abbreviations for this on a notepad.

PanicAndRun · 14/01/2020 20:17

The other annoying thing that was under control and they changed was that you need the app to change any preferences. You used to be able to do it on the website with no need for an app and it also used to show the total number of points.

They made the app compulsory if you want to see your points / change preferences for the points and also you can use it instead of an actual Morrisons card. One guess what most of the scammers use when using the points in shops half way across the country.

@Mum2jenny I threw notepads out about 10 years ago! 🙄

So spongejack how to you remember your passwords?

spongejack · 14/01/2020 21:42

@Mum2jenny iPassword app!

Retroflex · 14/01/2020 21:50

@spongejack just because you seem to think you need to be made aware of security breaches... There are at least 5 weaknesses recorded for the i Password app... suddenly becoming clearer why you were hacked

Keeping a note of passwords at home is perfectly safe if you do it properly. In other words you have random notes or part of your password written down. I don't know anyone who would write the website, username and password together... Hmm

But what if I'm out of the house in 2020 with that new technology and my little note book is all snuggly at home?? Fucking stupid idea and stop talking to me like I'm fucking 4!!

At least I'm able to be articulate without swearing...

You complained you weren't aware of the issues with Morrisons, I'm only letting you know there are security issues with your chosen method of password keeping...

Are you assuming I'm male? Because again that would make you wrong

Well I manage to remember passwords myself personally, I update them regularly, and I'm extremely aware of Internet security issues... such a shame that when people are wrong, instead of taking advice on board, they act like children and throw their toys out of the pram

Retroflex · 14/01/2020 22:01

And it's *too

bitheby · 14/01/2020 22:02

I hadn't heard anything about this so the thread has helped me. Just checked my account and all my points are still there.

As you all were arguing.

Retroflex · 14/01/2020 22:03

@spongejack stop acting like a child and take some responsibility for your own security problems! Hmm

Mum2jenny · 14/01/2020 22:05

As I said earlier, if you have a format for passwords you tend to remember them. I just write them in a notebook (with serious abbreviations) and keep it at home, no where near a computer. So generally I can work passwords out when I’m not at home.

No way am I using an app to remember passwords, certainly not ipassword.

Spongejack you are being very rude to someone who is trying to help you.

I’m out of here, OP you are ignoring generally good advice from posters who are trying to help you.

However if you do not want to be helped, why did you post??

spongejack · 14/01/2020 22:11

@Mum2jenny I didn't ask for help with internet security, did I? Please do highlight the post where I did?

Are you @Retroflex sock by any chance?

OP posts:
Retroflex · 14/01/2020 22:11

Awwww you must be lacking some reading skills... I've already clearly said I'm able to remember my passwords which I update regularly...

Take responsibility for your actions! You're clearly an easy mark for hackers... Hmm

Mum2jenny · 14/01/2020 22:13

I’m no sock, no idea what that is? Except I do wear one on each foot!

Retroflex · 14/01/2020 22:13

@spongejack can you please translate this to English? I don't know what you're trying to say...

"Are you @Retroflex sock by any chance?"

spongejack · 14/01/2020 22:13

@Retroflex read the first post.... I did!

Lacks basic ability to read but remembers passwords .... amazing

OP posts:
Retroflex · 14/01/2020 22:15

Your AIBU was asking if you're being unreasonable to "boycott" Morrisons, because of a security breach...

The fact that you do not take responsibility for your own internet security is definitely relevant!

spongejack · 14/01/2020 22:16

@Retroflex GrinGrin now that you don't understand just doesn't surprise me one bit.....

Write your abbreviations in your notebook when you find out?

OP posts:
spongejack · 14/01/2020 22:17

@Retroflex I never said that, get your bold out and read it again?
