Extra holiday - would you be honest?

I probably will be honest because I’m superstitious about these things, but just interested in views Smile

The company I work for has switched to a new holiday booking system as of 1 January. I went to book a holiday yesterday and the system is showing I have my full annual allowance, plus five days carried over. I did indeed carry five days over, but I booked off the first two working days of January (using the old system). This hasn’t been tracked to the new system.

Should I be honest and retroactively book off those two days, or do I enjoy an extra two days off? Grin

Out new HR system is currently showing I’ve got 2 more days than I’m entitled to, I’m not saying anything and if it’s still there in April (end of the holiday year) I’ll carry them over then use them at the end of the next holiday year so I can plausibly deny knowing I shouldn’t have them Grin

I did get an extra day a couple of years ago when a notoriously disorganised manager didn’t approve a day on the system when I requested it but verbally agreed it, I took the day off then she quite quite suddenly quit (possibly something to do with her being disorganised) then I went on mat leave and no one knew I’d taken that day off so it never got picked up.

'but you would not know if it was a genuine mistake or not'

and again it comes down to personal integrity.

If you can't see that then it is not worth spending my time pointing it out to you.

Be honest, as it will have happened to someone else too and they may highlight it.
You'll look bad for not raising it. You can act as dumb as you like but no one will fall for it and your cards will be marked.
I work in HR and these things always get uncovered.

I had a situation where I bought 5 days leave and they never took the money. Painful as it was I fessed up.

We have a week that we can either have as pay or holiday. There was a situation a few years ago when we still had a paper holiday booking system when someone had claimed the pay from HR but told their manager they were taking the holiday. This was repeated over several years. When it was discovered they were sacked. Everyone else on site was checked to see if they were also doing this.
