Just that really. DS is 6 next month is having a class party. He has asked for a party theme of his favourite film characters...who are all Disney princesses. AIBU to give him the party he wants?

It's not just girls who are hamstrung by sexism. And arguably it's boys who have more to lose at this age. Erring on the side of his social 'safety' is a sad thing to have to do, but probably the wisest decision.

JosefKeller, no, not all kids are that confident, but some are. I don't know OPs lad, no one else here does, I just gave my experience with my same-aged son wanting to princess it up a bit.

And I don't have "an agenda". Telling my son that any kids who want to pick on him for dressing as Elsa are mean and wrong isn't an agenda, it's the truth. It wasn't my idea, I wanted him to go as Spiderman as we already had that costume. He consistently asked to be Elsa for several weeks leading up to it and I didn't want to tell him he couldn't because of "what other people might think" as my mother was unsupportive of my tomboyness for that reason and it made me sad.

I was ready to say no as you'd leave him too open to teasing but I think a Frozen/winter themed party would be ok if you got creative.

I really want to see a bunch of six year olds doing tug of war whilst Let it Go plays at full blast and fake snow falls all around them.

Definitely do some theme that as many kids as possible would want to do. Princesses is a minority taste (boys and girls).

Mine are older now, but at that age they loved parties at the bowling alley, at the pool, indoor mini putt, laser tag, and skating

Obviously not all at the same party!Grin

Can’t he just have a Disney party and people can come as the character they like?
