Why are Argos so annoying to buy from

If you order online to collect in store: “ok so that’s the bedside lamp you have ordered? Yes?”

If you pay online to collect in store: “ok so that is the double duvet cover in pink £15.99? And the shopkins playset for £11.99, is that right?”

I mean, it’s so irrationally annoying! No Karen, I didn’t mean to pay for a cheap little bedside lamp, I actually wanted a £400 tv, silly me!!

AIBU?!? I feel better for offloading that Grin

It's not the fault of the staff, they get told by higher-ups that this is what they must say to all customers.

Greysparkles · 09/01/2020 14:15

You'd be surprised by how many people do just that.

Petrichor11 · 09/01/2020 14:16

YABU

It’s surely to make sure that neither you or they have made any mistakes either with the order or in giving them the order number.

my2bundles · 09/01/2020 14:16

Go to the self service checkout, that way u see what u ordered on screen and don't have to talk to anyone.

ForestYeti · 09/01/2020 14:16

They obviously need to check incase someone has ordered the wrong item

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 09/01/2020 14:20

YABVU, they're just doing their job and double checking and what's with the sneering 'Karen'?

chipdips · 09/01/2020 14:21

The app is so awful, why can't you filter by items that you can collect right away?

RightOnTheEdge · 09/01/2020 14:22

YABU it's just checking the order is right and no mistakes have been made.
I work in a job with a till and we always have to read the order back, loads of people say "yes that's right" then afterwards moan the order isn't right even when they get what's on the receipt.
Now that is annoying!

Thesearmsofmine · 09/01/2020 14:24

They are checking it is the correct item. You would be more irritated if you got home and it was wrong.

RightOnTheEdge · 09/01/2020 14:24

Actually what does annoy me about Argos is when you can't choose what colour or character you want to pick.
It's just pot luck and you get what your given Confused

adaline · 09/01/2020 14:25

It's fine.

They have a huge catalogue of items and lots of the codes are probably pretty similar. It's worth their while checking, else they'll have to deal with the subsequent complaint/refund/exchange.

TBH I don't go to Argos for excellent customer service. I go because it's quick, relatively good value and convenient. The staff in our local one are actually pretty friendly but they're not the reason I shop there over other places.

Lindy2 · 09/01/2020 14:27

It doesn't bother me at all. People are entering numbers to place their orders, I'm sure some people muddle them by mistake.

How's the staff member supposed to know that you don't have a sight problem or are dyslexic etc.

If you were accidentally about to buy a £400 tv instead of a £10 toy, you'd be pretty pleased they checked.

I'm feeling very pro Argos this morning. A lovely staff member at our local shop went through every OMG doll on their shelf this morning to locate the exact one my DD has wanted since before Christmas. I will have a very happy birthday girl tomorrow morning.

Monkeybunkey · 09/01/2020 14:32

I tried to order a load of stuff for delivery as it was out of stock in all my local stores, only to find it was all out of stock for home delivery as well. Ordered from Amazon in the end, which isn't the end of the world but I had about £150 of Nectar points to redeem which would have more than covered the order. Every time I've reserved something for in-store collection, it's never come in when it should have so I've ended up having a wasted journey. Have given up with Argos!

Magpiesshinynest · 09/01/2020 14:34

Yes but you would hardly get home and then realise it’s wrong really would you? You would notice that when they bring the item out

AllergicToAMop · 09/01/2020 14:35

Yabu. People are generally idiots.
"Just to double check, it's the grilled chicken and fries?"
"Yes"
Later when bringing food to the table
"Excuse me?! I wanted fish!"

People cannot be trusted to order what they wanted to order🤷

EntropyRising · 09/01/2020 14:35

Surely it's normal practice to confirm a customer's order when it pops up on your screen.

Do you get upset when you check your bag at the airport and they cofirm your destination?

AllergicToAMop · 09/01/2020 14:37

😂
No

EntropyRising · 09/01/2020 14:37

Maybe they want to correct any potential errors before they bring the stuff out, or maybe they found that customers don't like it when the clerk doesn't confirm their order.

It's entirely possible that someone can have more than one open Argos order at a time.

adaline · 09/01/2020 14:44

No, not necessarily.

I work in retail and you'd be surprised at how many people pay absolutely no attention to what they're buying, then come back and complain that they've picked the wrong style/size/colour, as if it's somehow your fault they haven't looked properly!

Emmacb82 · 09/01/2020 14:44

I think you’re getting too annoyed about something that really isn’t worth it! I think it’s only right that they check that the order is correct - you would be the first in line to complain if you got given the wrong thing! They normally just check on the screen and let me look without shouting it out. They were really good just before Christmas as I was collecting a couple of presents for my son and he was with me. They checked discreetly and then took my bags out the back to pack it away for me

RamonaFlower · 09/01/2020 14:45

I used to work in Index (similar concept to Argos). You'd be surprised at how stupid the general public are. Not only that, they don't like being shown that they've made a mistake and will often turn it around onto the sales assistant.

So YABU, I'm afraid. They're just doing their job.

PristineCondition · 09/01/2020 14:47

Umm your the Karen here hun.

SerenDippitty · 09/01/2020 14:49

I would be glad they do this as I am a bit of a one for transposing numbers. Sort of digital dyslexia.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/01/2020 14:50

Yes but you would hardly get home and then realise it’s wrong really would you? You would notice that when they bring the item out

Not necessarily - a lot of their products come out in a standard medium brown box with just a code written on the side. If you've ordered a telly and they give you a watch, it would be obvious, but not if you'd ordered a toaster and get given a printer.

At least it's only Argos - imagine if they did that in Ann Summers Grin

pigsDOfly · 09/01/2020 14:58

Goodness, I've never ever given this any thought. I just assume they're asking me to make sure what they've got in front of them is what I want to buy.

How is that annoying?

The staff at my local Argos are super helpful and always seem cheerful and friendly anyway. Maybe that's why they don't annoy me.
