To not want to cancel our holiday?

As a family, we've booked to go away to Turkey in May.

AIBU to not want to cancel? My DMum says we really should since there may well be war, we could get caught up, etc etc.

I'm not really down with all the news and politics at the moment so could anyone fill me in? Would it be dangerous to go?

Thank you

I personally wouldn’t go near Turkey at the moment. Have been previously, but lots of nicer, safer places to go.

Surely you watch the news??

@EpcotForever Northern Cyprus (Turkish controlled) is a separate de facto state from the rest of Cyprus (Greek controlled). Advising against Turkey seems a bit hysterical tbh, but even if you were being cautious the rest of Cyprus won't be a problem!

@be47 Blush thank you!!

No problem epcot - enjoy your trip!

As long as you have good travel insurance in place and our Foreign Office haven't issued a warning I really wouldn't worry too much about it. If British Foreign Office changes advice between you booking and date of holiday, or war breaks out, you should be able to get your money back from travel agent or travel insurers.

Turkey is beautiful and unless near the Syria border it is no different than any holiday destination. We go there often and will continue to do so ...enjoy.

I'd go happily. I went to Tunisia last year and all was fine.

Love Turkey and would definitely go to Dalaman.

I will be booking Turkey. If all Turkey becomes unsafe we will know the shit really has hit the fan.

What on earth are you talking about? London is very safe. Stabbings don’t just happen randomly to people on the street there confused

Actually.. yes they do.
And they have.

If there ends up being some war between the US/UK/Iran.. the UK could end up being a dangerous place to visit.

HairyFloppins · 08/01/2020 22:17

Sister and Parents live in North Cyprus. No panicking yet. Too close for comfort for me to visit though.

Karenisbaren · 08/01/2020 22:24

TryingToBeBold There is not going to be a war.
