Mouse in hotel room

StarburstSurprise · 08/01/2020 08:30

More of a WWYD really. DH has taken me to a lovely hotel for my birthday for a couple of nights. When we arrived, I found a couple of black rice-sized things under a cushion, brushed them off and thought no more about it. Later on we were on the bed when suddenly a little mouse ran out from behind the wardrobe! We took a video of him, we love animals and concerned that if we tell hotel then mouse will be a goner. On the other hand, not very hygienic.

YABU - Report the Rodent
YANBU - Keep quiet

Report it. Not only can they cause damage but also disease. I would be wanting a full refund yuck

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2020 08:34

You have to report it. The next guests may not be quite as calm as you. I wouldn't be able to stay in it.

Pinkyyy · 08/01/2020 08:35

I'd be out of there, no way would I pay to sleep on mouse shit.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 08/01/2020 08:35

You have to report it - there will be a lot more than one.

slashlover · 08/01/2020 08:38

If you don't report it then the next people will anyway.

nocluewhattodoo · 08/01/2020 08:41

You'll get a hefty discount for that I'd imagine, report it. Though I expect their are mice in most hotel rooms

kingkuta · 08/01/2020 08:42

Holy shit, is this a joke? Of course you need to report it. There are hygiene considerations, if no one reports there will be an infestation. The hotel could be closed down. People could get ill from the restaurant. Unbelievable

kingkuta · 08/01/2020 08:45

The next guests in that room could have a baby sleeping in there with them. Would you like rodents getting in a travel cot with your baby? Can't believe you are even considering not reporting

ballsdeep · 08/01/2020 08:46

Ergh it was in your bed and you wouldn't report it?

Starlight2004 · 08/01/2020 08:48

There's not usually just one little mouse..the hotel probably does already have a infestation and may already be aware of it so not much you can do for the mouse. But you should report it and show them the video. And I would expect a refund. I am a animal lover too and the mouse may be cute but when I pay to stay in a nice hotel I expect decent standards of hygiene.

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2020 08:49

There will be mouse wee on all the surfaces.

lostfrequencies · 08/01/2020 08:49

Uhhhm, of course you report it.

BumbleBumbleBumbleLies · 08/01/2020 08:55

Report it, can’t believe you wouldn’t. They’ll be more than one and they’ve pooped and weed all over the bed you’ve just slept in. Full refund needed. Envy

Figmentofmyimagination · 08/01/2020 08:59

They will need to know. Mice multiply quickly and can cause serious damage gnawing through electrical wiring and plastic plumbing pipes. They are both a fire and a leak hazard as well as being unhealthy.

Sorry, but the mouse needs to be a 'goner'.

Wherearemyminions · 08/01/2020 09:05

I've had this once, hotel near Paddington, mouse popped out from behind wardrobe and skittered across hard floor. I went down to reception and the guy told me that all old buildings in London have them and it's to be expected.

Erm, no! I asked to be moved and they put me in the shittest musty old room at the arse end of the building. Work were paying so I didn't push it further but any half decent hotel would want to know so they can take action.

coconuttelegraph · 08/01/2020 09:10

Why on earth would you not report it?

OlaEliza · 08/01/2020 09:13

Would you leave it if it was in your house??

You need to report it ffs.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/01/2020 09:20

If it's a special treat I'm guessing elegant period building, maybe in the country? The best hygiene won't eradicate mice from such a property.

They probably live with the problem and know there is a risk of one surfacing from time to time.

You need to report it and they should give you some sort of refund or compensation.

Karenisbaren · 08/01/2020 09:21

I would report it, is the hotel out in the sticks or near fields or farms?

StarburstSurprise · 08/01/2020 10:17

Hotel is in the countryside, on a 3000 acre estate, we have stayed here before with no mouse sitings. Thank you all for your opinions, we have decided to report it as the right thing to do. I once lived in a rented cottage that was overrun with mice, they even jumped on my bed in the night, (I moved out after that) so naievely thought just this one may not be such a problem.

It's good you will let them know. It is the decent thing to do. They won't know to look at that rom if they aren't alerted to the existing mouse presence.

EBearhug · 08/01/2020 10:20

The best hygiene won't eradicate mice from such a property.

No, but they should be able to control them sufficiently that you don't see droppings and live rodents in the bedrooms.
