Fucking Yodel and fucking signed for!

Who on earth benefits from signed for parcels? (Everyone except me probably and I’m being massively unreasonable! 😳)

2 days in a row they’ve attempted, they try for 3 days then give you the option to collect from their depot... which is 50 miles away! (I may as well have gone and bought the item from a shop) or rearrange for another week day.... I work fulltime! If I’m not in for 3 day in a row this week I’m not going to be in any other week day either.

Why on earth don’t they just let a neighbour sign for or leave it in the fucking recycle bin!

I’ve tried calling and got a robot who couldn’t understand yes or no, which just infuriated me more!!

I always leave a note on the door to put the parcel through the window or leave somewhere safe if it isn't big. You could always leave a note and ask to get a neighbour to sign it it's big. I've signed for parcels for my neighbours

noeyedeer · 07/01/2020 21:13

Hahahaha hahahaha... chuckles in despair and solidarity.

Yodel have been the bane of my life this Christmas. They "delivered" a parcel to my "porch and left a card" . I don't have a porch and didn't get a card. They said " it's been delivered to town name street. Please go and search on town name street.

Town name is almost a city, and rather large.

They also spectacularly failed to deliver my Christmas dinner food order.

Horcrux · 07/01/2020 21:22

@Tinydancer08 they say they don’t take signatures from neighbours!!
I am tempted to put a copy of my signature on the front door and tell them it’ll have to do!

OP posts:
Horcrux · 07/01/2020 21:23

They’re shit @noeyedeer, I’ve never had a delivery from them before, I’ve never ordered from JD Sports before! Wankers for making their parcels go out signed for!

OP posts:
Tinydancer08 · 07/01/2020 21:23

What about maybe seeing if a family member could sit in and wait for the parcel for you. Hope you get sorted

Tinydancer08 · 07/01/2020 21:25

Or what about getting the parcel redelivered to a pick up point/post office. Few delivery companies I use I can get delivered/redelivered to a petrol station

ClientListQueen · 07/01/2020 21:25

Hermes did a cracker the other day. Got into my secure hallway, wrote a note, shoved note under my door. Left the secure hallway, locking the door behind them and left the parcel by the bin. On the open street HmmConfused
Not in the cupboard under the stairs or even in the locked hallway... no, on the street

Cryingoverspilttea · 07/01/2020 21:29

Yodel always take signatures from neighbours here 🤷‍♀️ Hermes however, are a bunch of cunts.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 07/01/2020 21:30

I’m sure yodel deliver parcels to neighbours, it’s just that your retailer has specified this delivery to be a household signature only, so delivery to your neighbour isn’t permitted. They also deliver to safe places, but haven’t in your case, again at the retailer’s request as they want a signature. Is the parcel of decent value?

You have a few options, contact the retailer and ask them for advice eg request a specific weekend delivery. Change the delivery address to your workplace or a click and collect store. Cancel the order and buy the item from somewhere else etc

Horcrux · 07/01/2020 21:30

Thanks for advice @Tinydancer08 but they only use their drop off point, closest is Preston, I live in Cumbria! All my family live in Yorkshire 🤣

can you give your work address as the delivery address?

or use a delivery locker service or delivery to one of the myriad of newsagents and other small businesses that accept parcels?

or only order parcel deliveries on days when you are going to be at home the delivery day if you have a day at home?

or ask a friend or relative who is usually at home to agree to have your parcels delivered there?

I think it's pretty selfish to do lots of online shopping when you know you're never at home when deliveries take place. you are wasting the time of the delivery person who is only paid a few pence to deliver your parcel and doesn't get paid extra if you aren't in, and if you do use a delivery service that delivers to your neighbors then you are taking advantage of them too.

Horcrux · 07/01/2020 21:32

@Rachelfromfriends1 it’s a pair of Vans from JD Sports. They are wankers and I plan never to order from them again

OP posts:
RandomMess · 07/01/2020 21:37

YANBU as Preston is just the worst place to drive around and that was before they shut off loads of roads near the centre making it more confusing than ever!!!!

Rachelfromfriends1 · 07/01/2020 21:40

Just checked their website, basically echos what I said before.

It seems like their weekend delivery option is unavailable now, but I assume their standard delivery option also delivers on Saturdays.

I would ask them to get this parcel returned to sender as you can’t collect from the depot and ask them to send your Vans out to your address again. As it’s Tuesday you might get lucky with a Saturday delivery anyway.

If not, Vans are sold virtually everywhere so look into ordering them elsewhere.

Fucking Yodel and fucking signed for!
PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/01/2020 21:51

Only had yodel once and wasnt impressed.I get Hermes for my parcels 99% of the time and they are great at putting them in hiding places and then popping a note through the door to tell me.

Horcrux · 07/01/2020 21:56

I’ve never had a bother with Hermes either.
This has reminded me though why I always use amazon orime

I send a couple of hundred parcels with Yodel a month as I eBay for a job. You have to put a signature on anything of value. Without one any claim of non delivery will be found in the buyers favour, even if the parcel tracks as delivered. Also if you allow them to leave it safe, it commonly ends up in a puddle or on a bin lorry. I know it's a PITA for the buyer, but with some many 'dubious' non delivery claims the company selling really do have to protect themselves.

GinDaddy · 08/01/2020 07:53

Hmm @Horcrux you are being massively unreasonable here.

You are asking a delivery company to be telepathic.

You are expecting them to know you're at work, come up with a solution that suits you, wrapped nicely in a bow with a note etc.

You're never in the house to receive parcels, and yet you expect something larger than a letterbox to be "delivered" magically in a way that suits you?!

Communicate with the seller when you order!

People aren't always intuitive and YODEL drivers are paid a pittance. They may not want to leave it on your doorstep as if it goes missing, they get it in the neck. They may not have been told to leave it with a neighbour for whatever reason - again, you have to tell them your delivery preference, which is hardly unreasonable considering that the default (deliver into your hand on your doorstep) is never possible as you're at work.

YABU!

Horcrux · 08/01/2020 21:25

Erm @GinDaddy Amazon seem to be able to do it with no bother Hmm

Funny today, I called Yodel, spoke to an actual person and ask for it to be delivered without a signature. They got up my details, I told them my name but the parcel was in the name of my 10yr old son. So she refused to let me proceed further with my request as she had to speak to the ‘customer’ aka, my 10yr old.

Are you serious? I asked. Yes, she said. Again I asked... are you telling me that your security protocol is to speak to the customer over the phone despite you knowing that it’s a 10yr old. Bit even still it could be anyone who talks to you, including me with a fake voice? Yes she said!
I put my 10yr old on, she asked him questions he didn’t know the answer to so I relayed them to him so she could hear me saying them, then he repeated to her down the phone.
How fucking stupid must she have felt 🤨

It depends on the sender, my oh is a courier for DHL, and somethings are direct signatures only, so they aren't allowed to leave with just anyone, it has to be the person who's name is on the parcel, you should have arranged a delivery for when you are about after the first attempt. DHL give you 2 attempts before you have to request a specific day or collect from the depot. It's standard procedure. Not the drivers fault you're not in when he gets there. There have sometimes over 100 stops a day, including collections, they have to do the route the way that works best for them, or in some cases the way their scanner tells them to do it. My oh gets so frustrated with some people he delivers to as they wait until after the second attempt to ODD IT for another day, and then theyee not in that day either. You can do what's called a signature release, which is you signing over permission for the diver to leave with a neighbour, if they have time to try neighbours, or leave it safe.

Horcrux · 08/01/2020 21:35

@Chipmunk I ordered the parcel a week ago, I work in a school so expected to be in during delivery as I expected the parcel last week.

OP posts:
PullUpsAreTricky · 08/01/2020 21:37

get them delivered to work.

chipmunkcalling · 08/01/2020 21:40

Like others said, use your work address then, you'd be surprised at how many people do this, couriers have their own working hours too, they can't work their day around everyone else. Don't complain that they can't be out on the road 24/7 because it is inconvenient for you to be at home during working hours. Some courier services allowed for timed delivery some don't, it's something you'd have to pay extra for.

Horcrux · 08/01/2020 21:41

Can’t deliver to work. I’m pissed off because it was signed for. If Amazon don’t need to do signed for, why do other large companies?
